Places to see in ( Stanford Le Hope - UK )
Stanford-le-Hope is a town and Church of England parish situated in the county of Essex, England. The town is within the unitary authority of Thurrock and located 23.8 miles east of Charing Cross in London. Its principal claim to fame is that Joseph Conrad lived and wrote there. Unlike some other areas of Thurrock, Stanford-le-Hope is surrounded by countryside and farmland. The town is served by Stanford-le-Hope railway station.
Often known locally simply as Stanford, the town is home to many commuters working in London, thanks to its proximity to the capital and its c2c-operated London, Tilbury and Southend Railway rail connections. Until recently the town benefited from two refineries located on the nearby Thames, Shell Haven and Coryton. Both have now closed, the Shell site ceased operating in 1999 and has now been redeveloped by Dubai Ports as a deepwater container port with attendant logistics and commercial development. Coryton refinery ceased to operate in 2013, demolition of the process units continues and the site is now under redevelopment as a Fuels Storage and Distribution Terminal in a joint venture between Greenergy and Shell as well as an enterprise zone. Both these changes point to a bright future for the town. Many residents also travel along the nearby A13 to work in the Lakeside Shopping Centre, as well as the industrial and commercial businesses along the north bank of the Thames running west towards the Port of London. As Stanford-le-Hope grows in size, it has started to incorporate neighbouring settlements such as Corringham, Mucking and Fobbing, the latter of which was the scene of one of the uprisings which led to the Peasants' Revolt.
Stanford-le-Hope is bordered to the north by the A13 road and to the south by the Thames Estuary. It is located 12.7 miles (20.5 km) west of Southend-on-Sea. The town centre has a village feel with its 800-year-old church, St Margarets making a prominent and attractive landmark around which shops, pubs and restaurants have grown to create a lively core to the town.
The River Hope, a tributary of the Thames runs through the town.
Locally there are a number of parks and nature reserves, notably Thurrock Thameside Nature Reserve, with a visitor centre providing views up and down the Thames across both industrial and natural landscapes including the Mucking Flats SSSI. The result of the Thurrock Council 2016 local elections meant that Stanford-le-Hope was represented by six councillors from the Conservative Party, and two UKIP councillors.

Thurrock pays tribute to Lee Rigby
TO BE honest, we knew that someone in Thurrock would stand up and be counted. That person was Andy Johns and the other members of the bikers group, the Steel Horse Riders.
They were joined by the mayor of Thurrock, cllr Tony Fish and politicians from all parties but they were keen to stay in the background as this was the Andy and the Thurrock public who came to pay their respects.
The death of drummer Lee Rigby has horrified a nation but also brought it closer together and that is why on a lovely spring morning in Grays, the public came out to pay their respects.
Andy said: I am a veteran myself and so when this murder happened, I could not believe it and wanted to do something.
This is our small gesture and I would thank everyone who turned up.
The Steel Horse Riders then rode from Grays to Woolwich where they also laid a wreath for the fallen soldier.
Small personal wreaths were also laid at Stanford-le-Hope and Tilbury.
Old clay quarry, Mucking, Thurrock, Essex
Filmed 11.11.13. We walked from Orsett Golf Club, crossed Buckingham Hill Road, and then entered the disused land that eventually comes down to Mucking Village. This was the view from the highest point we reached, perhaps 200ft above the quarry floor, empty but for the buzz of scramblers. As the camera sweeps round from the west, the Thames can be seen, and the enormous cranes at the new London Gateway DP World deepwater port to the east, which only began operations a few days ago.
In pre-Roman times, when the land was higher and the Thames much wider, there was a significantly sized settlement here, the most important along the river at that time. There was a sense of time-stood-still, a raped and rejected landscape, with its gouged gorge and purpose forgotten beneath a palimpsest of misuse and abuse.

History of Lakeside Thurrock Essex
History of Lakeside Thurrock Essex
When the Tunnel Cement Works at West Thurrock in Essex closed in 1976, it left a 1,000 acre legacy of partly worked quarries and heavy industrial buildings and plant. This is the story of how, by a combined effort of the landowners and local authorities, that land was transformed into the site of the largest concentrations of shopping in the UK, alongside a major industrial and distribution estate. RTZ Estate and Pearson Group owned the land. Essex County Council provided the highway links. Thurrock Borough Council co-ordinated the overall design. The landowners invested heavily in the infrastructure and Thurrock supported their marketing efforts. Within 10 years, 1,500 permeant new jobs have been created. Hundreds of major new businesses have been attracted to the area. The groundwork stage has been completed but the teamwork continues.
THE MUCKING EFFECT
My first attempt at 'Slipstream' Genre. Recorded on location at the Cory Environmental Trust Visitor Centre, Mucking, Essex, England, with friends, in June 2013. This is what I call my 'Marmite film'! You either like it or you don't! However, I hope you enjoy it!
