This is Santiago, Chile ???????? Safe? Beautiful? Must Visit? What to do in the city. Travel Guide
We spent a full day checking out some of major sights to try to find the best things to in Santiago de Chile.
We started out the day with a run and headed to the beautiful Parque Bicentario where we saw some beautiful views of the city and mountains. We ran around the park for awhile to see what it had to offer and came across some flamingos.
We picked up the video later in the day in the centre of town in the Plaza de Armas, which is the main square in Santiago. From here we picked up our Hop on Hop off tickets from Turistik Chile and immediate hopped on a bus!
To book your Santiago Hop on Hop off ticket visit here (we had the “plus” ticket):
The Hop on Hop off bus took us throughout a large part of the city where we got to see many of the important sites and also listen to an audio guide.
We got off at the tallest building in Latin America called the Costanera Centre (Gran Torre). Here we bought tickets to the observation deck called Sky Costanera. The observatory is this highest in Latin America and offers amazing views of the city and Andes Mountains.
After this we walked to the cable car to make our way up Cerro San Cristobal, a park on a hill in the middle of the city. The tickets to the cable car were included in our Hop on Hop off ticket and also included the funicular down the hill.
Up at the top of Cerro San Cristobal you’ll find beautiful views of the city. You’ll also find a church as well as a statue of the Virgin Mary which you can see from the ground in most of the city.
ABOUT SANTIAGO
Santiago, Chile’s capital and largest city, sits in a valley surrounded by the snow-capped Andes and the Chilean Coast Range. Plaza de Armas, the grand heart of the city’s old colonial core, is home to 2 neoclassical landmarks: the 1808 Palacio de la Real Audiencia, housing the National History Museum, and the 18th-century Metropolitan Cathedral. La Chascona is the home-turned-museum of poet Pablo Neruda.
ABOUT CHILE

Santiago, its capital, sits in a valley surrounded by the Andes and Chilean Coast Range mountains. The city's palm-lined Plaza de Armas contains the neoclassical cathedral and the National History Museum. The massive Parque Metropolitano offers swimming pools, a botanical garden and zoo.

Ride a Bus from the Santiago Chile Airport
Step by step how to take the bus from the Santiago, Chile airport into downtown Santiago to connect with the Santiago’s extensive metro system. Check out for more details on taking the bus and using the Santiago, Chile metro. We have used the inexpensive Centropuerto public bus from the airport several times. The bus fare is currently 1800 chilean pesos for a one-way ticket. The bus runs from the airport to the Los Heroes metro stop and leaves every 10 minutes during the day from 6:00am until 11:30pm, and overnight, the bus runs hourly. Breathtaking 9 hour Bus Ride from Chile to Argentina ???? Santiago to Mendoza by Bus
We travelled by bus from Santiago, Chile to Mendoza, Argentina. It was much quicker and about the same price to fly but we heard the bus ride was one of the best in the world, and it did not disappoint. It ended up being one of the most amazing bus rides we’ve ever been on if not one of the most beautiful bus rides in the world.
We travelled with Cata Internacional ( from Santiago to Mendoza. Tickets cost about $30 USD per person, and tickets were booked online. We were able to book the upper level front seats to have the most amazing view- and if you’re going to do this bus ride we’d highly recommend doing the same.
The bus left from South Terminal (Terminal Sur) in the international section. Make sure you are fully checked in before boarding the bus.
The bus ride took about 8-9 hours including a stop at the boarder that took about one hour. We’d heard it can take much longer but we left in the afternoon and it seems most buses leave in the morning or at night. Light snacks including juice, sandwiches and coffee were served on the bus but we’d also recommend packing some additional snacks and some water.
If you’re thinking about taking this bus ride we’d highly recommend it as it’s an absolutely stunning bus ride through the Andes Mountains.

Learn How to Use The Metro in Santiago, Chile
If Marine and I could learn to use the Santiago Metro, anyone can learn. There are four Metro lines and all Metro signs have three diamonds. A single ticket costs around .80 cents US or buy a BIP card, an electronic card that is swiped across turnstiles and recharge as necessary.
We toured Santiago like a local for the day and guide Christian, took us all over the city by Metro. It is clean, efficient, safe and easy. The main tourist lines are Red and Green which serve downtown, Barrio Brasil, Providencia and Las Condes area. Make it easy on yourself and study a free metro map with interchanges before using.

Chile: students ambush metro stations in protest over fare hikes
The Chilean capital, Santiago, has seen a significant roll-out of riot police after more than a week of mass fare evasion on the city's metro in protest over raised prices. Police and metro management said there had been more than 200 incidents of largely school children and students jumping barriers and forcing gates to access trains. Metro stations were closed or blocked and in some cases police responded with teargas and batons.

Chile: Clashes erupt at Santiago protests over transport fare hikes
Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe
Thousands of student protesters staging a mass demonstration against rising public transport costs clashed with police in Santiago on Friday.
Footage shows police using water cannons and tear gas to disperse protesters as well as demonstrators erecting barricades and facing off against police on the street. Drone footage also shows the scale of the protests.
The protests were sparked by a rise in public transport fares which demonstrators see as unacceptable when faced with rising living costs. A number of metro services were halted across the Chilean capital during the demonstrations as protesters vaulted barriers and damaged ticket machines.

Buses in Santiago, Chile - Red Metropolitana de Movilidad
Transantiago is the name for the city's public transport system. It works by combining local (feeder) bus lines and main bus lines, as well for the EFE commuter trains and the Metro network. It includes an integrated fare system, which allows passengers to make bus-to-bus, bus-to-metro or bus-to-train transfers for the price of one ticket, using a contactless smartcard (bip!). Also, this system allows elders, high school and university students to pay reduced fares.
