MAUI, NAPILI BAY//SNORKELING WITH MORAY EEL!!!
Hey everyone! I am going to be posting lots of GoPro vlogs from 2015 and 16 today and tomorrow! Here is some excellent footage, filmed from an excellent Dad! Also, tells me your thoughts of the fish and the moray eel in the comment section below! Love you guys!
Napili is an unincorporated community located north of Lāhainā, West Maui, Hawaii, United States.[1] Napili Beach is a small beach surrounded by condominiums, and the local neighborhoods of Hui Road and Napilihau are home to hundreds of the people who work in West Maui's tourist industry.
Maui is a leading whale-watching center in the Hawaiian Islands due to Humpback whales wintering in the sheltered ʻAuʻau Channel between the islands of Maui county. The whales migrate approximately 3,500 miles (5,600 km) from Alaskan waters each autumn and spend the winter months mating and birthing in the warm waters off Maui, with most leaving by the end of April. The whales are typically sighted in pods: small groups of several adults, or groups of a mother, her calf, and a few suitors. Humpbacks are an endangered species protected by U.S. federal and Hawaiʻi state law. There are estimated to be about 10,000 humpbacks in the North Pacific.[11] Although Maui's Humpback face many dangers, due to pollution, high-speed commercial vessels, and military sonar testing, their numbers have increased rapidly in recent years, estimated at 7% growth per year.[12]
Maui is home to a large rainforest on the northeastern flanks of Haleakalā, which serves as the drainage basin for the rest of the island. The extremely difficult terrain has prevented exploitation of much of the forest.
Agricultural and coastal industrial land use has had an adverse effect on much of Maui's coastal regions. Many of Maui's extraordinary coral reefs have been damaged by pollution, runoff, and tourism, although finding sea turtles, dolphins, and Hawai'i's celebrated tropical fish, is still common. Leeward Maui used to boast a vibrant dry 'cloud forest' as well but this was destroyed by human activities over the last three hundred years.[13]

SNORKELING MAUI Ahihi and the Dumps (GoPro 1080P HD)
A #BestSnorkeling on the South end of #Maui with my favorite person. So grateful for the beauty around us and the mesmerizing music from Blue Dot Sessions. The bright coral appears to be coming back. I like to #FreeDive. Carla likes to #surfacesnorkel. TURN ON CC for info cards. The #spottedeel was very fast and only about three feet long. It was thin, about the diameter of a vacuum cleaner hose. It disappeared back into the coral so I slowed the video a bit to extend what I captured. What amazing creatures! What an amazing place. Hope you enjoy!

10 Ways to Pay Less for Real Estate in Hawaii. (click through to see video below)
#1 Know The Market. Ask for a detailed history of everything that has SOLD in the last year. That is the MARKET that most determines the current market value. Not asking prices! In order to to SEE a deal when it presents itself you must KNOW the market. That means watching the SALES and then calculating the sold price per square foot, per acre and adjusting for the fit, finish, age and condition of the property. This is probably the #1 reason I suggest utilizing an experienced real estate agent. Also pay attention to average days on market, listing price vs sales price ratio and the number of months of inventory on the market for a given price range and geographic area. These are the elements of supply and demand. But the reason you need to know these numbers cold are so when a good deal comes your way, you can quickly identify. All possible suspects must be inspected in person to see what you can't see in the listing and write up and photos. The opportunity or lack thereof is in the details.
#2 Get Auto Updates or Active Pending and Sold's - It's imperative that you receive instant updates the moment anything hits the market, goes under contract (pending) or sells in the geographic area and price point you are shopping. This instant supply of data will arm you with the ability to act quickly should the opportunity present itself. Trust me, you have competition. Even a few minutes can make a difference in winning a deal. Finally, you MUST tell whoever is setting up the auto alert to make it instant alert vs. same day, weekly, or monthly.
#3 Keep an Eye On Under Contract Cancelling - Make sure your agent sharing with you ALL of the available inventory. Those homes and condos that are under contract but are in the PROCESS of cancelling are usually missed. This could be a great deal that someone else put under contract, and is not cancelling since the buyer can't perform, but the listing is not allowed to show it as ACTIVE and back on the market until it officially cancels with the escrow company.
#4 Always Seek out For Sale By Owner (FSBO) and Zillow. Don't judge these listings by the quality or lack of photos, a write up or incorrect listing information. These are do it yourself sellers who don't usually have the skill and know how to properly list properties online. Before you or your agent step foot into the house or condo be sure so negotiate the buyers side commission (even if you don't have an agent!) since buying a home will take time, energy and paperwork. Be sure tp discuss how you will legally document the purchase contracts, and the myriad of legal documents needed to transfer the deed. Always get title insurance and ask for a general warranty deed!
5) Unoccupied Homes - by this I don't mean homes that are no lived in on a full time basis (we have LOTS of those in Hawaii) I mean homes and condos that clearly look almost like nobody has been there in year. It will usually have a run down yard, deferred maintenance and no sign of life. You can even ask the neighbors about the property. It's very easy to find the name, mailing address, phone and email for the registered owner (if you know where to look) and ask questions about the property and possibly making an offer. I've personally found and closed many such deals for my clients.

Diving thru the so-called toilet bowl area off Makena Landing. There were two large turtles in the bowl today. This spot has a reputation for being surgey, choppy and unforgiving. Today this was not the case.
Olowalu Testimony by BlueMenpachi
To Council Members:
Please do not let this Olowalu Town Project be passed. All the evidence has been presented to you. Please do not let Frampton and Ward rape and pillage one of Maui's last untouched land. Everything that happens in the mountains DOES affect the ocean.
To Olowalu Residents:
Please do not let Frampton and Ward sweet talk you. Please do not fall for their lies. I do not know what they have told you, but if they really loved Maui they wouldn't be introducing this project in the first place. The entire island of Maui will be affected in a very negative way. Please help to protect the Olowalu Kupuna Coral. I love this island too much to let it be killed.
To Frampton and Ward:
Please stop lying. Please stop sweet talking everyone. Please stop your project.
LYRICS:
County Council members, what's going on? I voted for you all now everythings gone wrong.
Maui's got a population problem can't you tell?
Now you wanna add a new town? What the hell?
Studies have been done on Olowalu reef, construction on that seawall has already caused so much grief.
Can't you see the kupuna corals? They're all dyin' and this minimizing impact crap? I ain't buyin'
The studies have been done and the evidence is right there, yet you continue on without a care.
How much more water will you need to redirect? If you ask me, you guys got no respect.
Maui's crying out in pain, can't you hear it? The screams they get so loud, it makes my ears split.
When's the last time you swam in that sea? Oh, wait let me guess? It's dirty.
Mr. Frampton, Mr. Ward I bet you guys are nice, but building this town has too high a price.
There's too many people in our little Maui County, and they first need to learn about responsibility.
Do we have to sell the land General Plan Committee? Can't we just let the land rest and just let it be?
I feel so scared for Olowalu and Mr. Fujii. That general store holds so much history.
4,000 jobs will be created through this project, but those are only temporary, don't forget.
I've tried to get my genereation in on this event, but most of them are saying that they're just incontent.
Since you never listen, a lot of them don't give a ____. Do you hear what I'm saying council? They're giving up.
Giving up on you and your decision making. Always selling the land and always developing.
We want the land to be preserved, why can't you let it be? We don't wanna be like Oahu, this is Maui.
Our island waters are being completely ignored, not only by most of its people, but even most of the board.
Why can't we leave the land alone and let it be? Focus on all the other problems people see.
Is there corruption in the system? There's a pain in my heart. And right now council, you're all taking part.
It's simple, all you have to do is decline. You'll be known as heroes in the paper next time.
And I'm sorry if this rhyme makes me seem out of line, I need to get my point across with only 4 minutes time.
Olowalu residents, don't you know? Those reefs are your protectors, not just for show.
They're a delicate system and easy to maintain. You just have to remember, it's also their domain.
There's so many people in here trying to show you, the waters are in danger, so what will you you do?
Pay attention; this next part might seem kind of long, so I wrote the lyrics out for the next part of the song.
The population, Over fishing, Corals dying, Sedimentation, Plastic debris, Water scarcity, Pollution, People lying, Education, Invasive species, Corruption, Waste put out, Money, Tourism; Are you hearing what I shout?
Wake up Maui, we need to come together. Man up! Fix things we have now to make it better.
Please don't misunderstand, I'm not angry just sad. This so called family town, feels so bad.
We need to rely on outsiders to fix our troubles? We're already hurting ourselves by ignoring our corals.
They're such a huge part of our islands community. I hope you can understand and just let it be.
Plan says you want to promote small shops and services?
So more competition for struggling businesses?
Preserving Maui County's natural beauty and resources
Is what Mayor Alan said at the State of the County Adresses.
Now you want to sell the land, to Frampton and Ward?
They're playing you all, just like a chess board.
If they really understood how important those corals are, I wouldn't be here in front of you spittin' bar after bar.
Listen up everyone, I'm calling you out! Understand the meaning behind these lyrics that I shout!
To all the local people, you guys should understand. Your guardians are out there, protecting this land!
Sharks, Manta rays, even corals and fish, they're your aumakua, or did you forget that shit?!
Protect them because they're always protecting you. Please understand, they need your protecting too.
There's more I want to say to save our coral reefs, but the council only allows us 4 minutes each.
If I found out later that this plan has been accepted, I'm sorry Maui I've failed and nobody has listened.

A Quick Look at Maui's Camp Olowalu
Just a little peek at what Olowalu campground on Maui looks like. We spent most of 2 weeks here. Activity wise, you can rent kayaks and SUP's here, no real walking/hiking trails to speak of, although you can walk down to another beach area. The nearest town is Lahaina a few miles away but there is a decently stocked store and a restaurant across the highway from the campground. Having Snorkeled at Molokini Crater, we thought the snorkeling right off the beach here was much better, not to mention much more accessible and free. Turtles were everywhere.
Maui Camping Guide - Camp Olowalu Cabins and Mess Hall
Camp Olowalu (formerly Camp Pecusa) is a privately held campground and is located near Lahaina, Maui. The group cabins are currently only reservable as a block, and not offered for individual rental. Each cabin contains spring beds, screened windows, and a gear loft, and a mess hall with a commercial kitchen is available to group renters. Each cabin is near the ocean, where kayaking is a popular activity.
A tent camping area is also located on the property.
Windy Camp Olowalu
Got a bit windy while we were camping at Olowalu on Maui. One of the only things we didn't like about our stay here. You can actually make out a small little rainbow on the water.
