Aix en Provence France
You're going to find that the city of Aix-en-Provence in the south of France is one of the most delightful places you could ever visit as you’re about to discover out in this detailed movie.
We bring you on a detgailed walking tour of the large pedestrian zone with its charming historic buildings, many shops, cafés, restaurants and the very famous outdoor markets selling fresh produce, clothing, antiques and all kinds of stuff with lots of local characters to observe and interact with. This small city is the perfect size, big enough to keep you busy for several days and yet not too large that you're going to feel lost or frustrated that you can't see everything.
Aix is located in the heart of Provence, a region that has so many wonderful destinations from Avignon to Nice. And you will see that AIX is one place that you must not miss.
You could easily spend a few days here and travel out to visit other nearby destinations, or if you only have one day, it is certainly possible to see most of AIX as we’re going to show you in the movie.
Aix en Provence walking tour
Aix-en-Provence is a joy to discover. You'll most likely begin your explorations of Aix on the main street, which is also the first street you'll come to, Cours Mirabeau, the broad street established in 1651. Simply called the Cours, it is sometimes considered the most attractive boulevard in all France: lined with shops, outdoor cafés and restaurants in all price ranges along a wide sidewalk with magnificent plane trees towering overhead and three moss-covered fountains in the middle of the street.
The three beautiful fountains along the quarter are called, first of all the fountain of the nine canons, and then the so-called mossy fountain from which flows a warm thermal water that generates a thick foam that covers the fountain with the green moss. And at the top of the boulevard there's the fountain of King René designed in 1819, and it adorns a work of the artist David Angers.
It was the French back in the 19th century who perfected the art of walking for sheer pleasure. They called it the flaneur, the aimless wanderer where you're just walking along, alert to your surroundings, observing things, interesting, even unimportant details, not so much worried about your destination, but enjoying the journey. 13A: This art of walking, or flaneur, was very well described by a 19th century French writer named Victor Fournel, who asks us: have you reflected on everything contained in the term flaneur, this most enchanting word which is revered by the poets? Go on infinite investigations through the streets and promenades, drift along with your nose in the wind with both hands in your pocket, with an umbrella under your arm, and an open-minded spirit. Walk along with serendipity without pondering where, and without hurrying. Stop in front of stores to regard their images, at street corners to read their signs, by the book stands to touch and smell. Give yourself over captivated and enraptured with all your senses and all your mind to the spectacle. The 19th century Parisians elevated walking to a fine art.
We show you these streets in the historic center of Aix: Avenue Victor Hugo, Cathédrale Saint Sauveu, Cours Mirabeau, Place de l'Hôtel de ville, Place de Verdun, Place des Tanneurs, Place des Trois Ormeaux, Place Forum des Cardeurs, Place Ramus, Place Saint-Honoré, Rue Aumône Vieille, Rue Bédarrides, Rue Boulegon, Rue Brueys, Rue Chabrier, Rue Clemenceau, Rue Courteissade, Rue de l'Ancienne Madeleine, Rue de la Couronne, Rue de la Masse, Rue des Chapeliers, Rue des Cordeliers, Rue des Tanneurs, Rue Espariat, Rue Fabrot, Rue Gaston de Saporta, Rue Granet, Rue Matheron, Rue Nazareth, Rue Papassaudi, Rue Paul Bert, Rue Vauvenargues,
Provence Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Provence.
Marseille is the oldest city in France, the country’s largest commercial harbour and the capital of Provence, an enchanting region full of contrast. The most impressive religious building in Marseille is a fortified monastery church that dates back to the fifth century, the mighty Abbaye Saint Victor. Deep down in the rock is an Early Christian crypt and a number of stone sarcophaguses that contain the remains of various holy martyrs that date back to the Roman persecution of the Christians. Aix-En-Provence, along with its numerous lanes, is one of the most beautiful cities in France. More than forty spectacular fountains help to cool down this ancient town in the hot months of summer when both foreign and French tourists visit the city. ‘Sur Le Pont D’Avignon’ are the words of the world famous French song that is familiar to both young and old alike. It is a song of dance on the bridge of the Pont Saint Bénézet but it is more likely that the people here once danced under the bridge as that is the location of its bars! For almost two thousand years an imposing Roman amphitheatre has dominated the city of Nîmes. It is the capital of the Departement Gard that is situated on the periphery of Provence. One of the most well preserved mediaeval fortifications in Europe surrounds the small town of Aigues-Mortes along the western periphery of the Camargue in the south of France. The town was established in 1240. From the city wall that is eleven metres high and six metres thick, there is a wonderful view across the rooftops of the impregnable city. With historic towns in which both the Romans and the Papacy felt at home, and with blossoming fields of lavender and ancient mountain villages, Provence is a land of sweet aromas and radiant light.

Aix-en-Provence (France) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Aix-en-provence in France.
Hot springs once inspired the Romans to settle in a valley below the Celtic Oppidum that they had just destroyed. However, today’s Aix-En-Provence and its numerous lanes offer far more than simply water.Aix is one of the most beautiful cities in France and its numerous fountains and majestic squares highlight the city’s unique ambience and romantic character. Indeed, more than forty spectacular fountains cool down this ancient town in the hot months of summer when both foreign and French tourists visit the city. Nearly all of its splendid buildings and wonderful avenues date back to the 17th and 18th centuries, the Golden Age of Aix-En-Provence. As a centre of education and fine art this elegant city continues to be a rich source of creative inspiration.

THE HIGHLIGHTS OF PROVENCE, FRANCE IN 1 DAY
Well I did not have the camera in my hands recently, but I got to the Provence region in France after my parents left and got back to filming! I took a full day tour to see a bunch of towns in Provence. Started in Aix-en-Provence then headed out to see Avignon, Luberon and Roussillon. It was a great day with amazing weather to see all that the Provence region has to offer. I missed the famous lavender harvest that takes place in the region, but it was still a great way to spend my short time here.

The Gem of the South of France: Aix-en-Provence
Aix-en-Provence is one of the oldest cities in the South of France, and is an absolute treasure. Sun shines in this city over 300 days on average per year, making it the perfect French getaway! I studied abroad in Aix for a cumulative total of around 6 months, and keep on coming back at every opportunity I get.

Aix en Provence walking tour part 2
Another attractive square in Aix-en-Provence, France, is the Forum des Cardeurs, whose pastel façades surround the large central plaza, creating a distinctly Provençal atmosphere, enhanced by a row of outdoor restaurants. Cardeurs is often frequented by university students, and the local yuppie crowd out for lunch, so it's a prime spot to have a meal.
Place des Cardeurs used to be just a street, it was a wide street running through the city like many of what are now the pedestrian lanes and beautiful plazas that are for people only. Fifty years ago there were cars running through sections like this, but now it's been converted into this wonderful broad Plaza. It has a similar ambience as Italy. After all, we are in the South of France, and there is a definite Mediterranean twist that is a little different than French towns in the middle of the country or further north.
You will be tempted by an enormous variety of foods in all price ranges throughout Aix, from the simple take-out sandwiches to the highest quality haute cuisine. You can't walk a minute without seeing more food.
