— About Exploring Colombia —
Colombia, a country which many only know because of it’s violent past, has been on my list since I went to South America for my first long-term trip in 2012. 6 Years later and with 5 weeks to spend it was finally time to properly explore my country number 9 on the continent.
For the first part of the trip I’ll be traveling with my mate David to the historical city of Cartagena, some picturesque Carribean islands and to the city of Medellin where we get to learn about the violent past and the transformation of the country. After a few days in the capital Bogota I’ll be joined by my good friend Stefan to learn salsa and take on some outdoor adventures in Cali before heading up to Santa Marta where we checkout the most beautiful beaches, float down rivers and hike through the mountains.

Villa de Leyva: The perfect Bogota day trip | Colombia TRAVEL VLOG
It's common advice for travelers to skip out on Bogota because there's not much to do, but Villa de Leyva is worth staying that extra day for.
If you start early, you can go can rent AV's, go wine tasting, try an ostrich steak at an ostrich farm, and visit the famously bizarre house that looks like it's out of a Dr. Seuss book, Casa de Terracota.

COLOMBIA: Bogota/Cartagena/Santa Marta
Spending my 2018 Christmas holiday in Colombia. It's my first time visiting South America and Colombia was a great introduction. I started in the Capital of Bogota where I learned about Colombia's rich history and culture doing the 3 hour graffiti bike tour, viewed the city from on top of Monserrate mountain, celebrated the national holiday Dia de las velitas which translates to ( Day of little candles) and went to marque de la sal (Salt Cathedral). I then headed down to the northern coast of Cartagena to see the walled city called old town, the fortress of Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, watched the sunset at Cafe del Mar and bathed in the live mud volcano of El Totumo. My final stop was Santa Marta where I hung out at the popular night life spot parque de los novios, tubed down the Palomino river and spent a day hiking and enjoying the beautiful beaches of Tayrona National Park.
Destinations visited

-Plaza Bolivar 1:33
-3 hour graffiti bike tour 4:49

-Botero Museum
-Tabula Restaurant (Anthony Bourdain recommendation) Best food I had ever.

Welcome to Colombia
La Candelaria is the neighborhood located at Bogota’s Downtown and it is a small reminder of how Bogotá in the past was, thanks to its colonial architecture. Here is where the city was founded on August 6, 1538 and there’s so many places you can visit. There’s a great offer of restaurants, museums, cultural centers, colonial churches and universities.
The main sites of interest are the Marketplace “La Concordia” where you can find a great variety of Colombian fruits and vegetables, the Chorro de Quevedo, a spot for cultural activities and have fun with friends. Then, there’s the Church “Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria”, the one that gives the name to all the neighborhood. Other place is the Plaza de Bolivar, it is the main square where you can find the City Hall, the Congress, the Palace of Justice, and the Cathedral of Bogotá. Other places are the Plaza Santander, Iglesia de San Francisco, the Restaurant “La Puerta Falsa” and the Coffee House “Café Pasaje”.
Hey there! My name is Colombiafrank, and I’d like to welcome you to the beautiful country of Colombia. As you probably guessed, I’m a bit of an expert on Colombia travel, and I’ve got lots of great advice on Colombia tourism that will allow you to make the most of your experience as you travel Colombia.
I began traveling Colombia back in 2015 after finishing up my first semester here in Bogota working towards my MBA. I immediately fell in love with the country and the wide variety of adventures and opportunities that traveling Colombia has to offer. As a country rich in both natural and cultural diversity, your Colombian travel experience will not disappoint.
Before you can begin your Colombia travels, we must get you here first. As a foreigner myself, I understand how difficult it can be navigating your way through a foreign country. But fear not because Colombiafrank is here to help you with your travels to Colombia so that you can avoid the common mistakes and get right to the good stuff. Just think of me as your go to Colombia travel guide!
So, come see for yourself what tourism Colombia has to offer!

I love free walking tours. Most cities have them and you can definitely go on them if you are completely broke. However, I highly suggest tipping the guide $5-$20 because the guide earn a living from these tips. Be fair: if you like the tour and the guide a lot, give as much as you can afford.
Free walking tour of Bogota was very enjoyable because I got to learn the history of the city and of Colombia but I also got to visit some awesome place where I came back later (watch my more recent Bogota Colombia Vlogs for more details).
