Wellington's First Electric* Double Decker Bus Review
an update on bus affairs in wellington
Wellington's first hybrid bus demo
We are on a journey towards a full electric bus service for the Wellington region. In January 2016, Greater Wellington Regional Council hosted a demonstration of a Volvo hybrid bus travelling along the Golden Mile. This allowed Wellingtonians to experience low emission, modern bus technology first-hand.

Wellington DOUBLE DECKER Bus Trip: No. 32X 7:43 a.m Houghton/Island Bay - Molesworth St. August 2019
7:43 a.m Morning express No. 32 trip from Houghton Bay via ISLAND BAY, to Molesworth Street in Wellington CBD, on a DOUBLE DECKER bus O.o
I like the double decker buses. The NZ Government introduced these double decker buses to Wellington July 2018. And yes, I'm happy to live in Island Bay.
The very first bus stop from this service, is a 10 minute walk from Reef Street where the Island Bay No. 1 route turns around.
The No.1 route runs every 10 minutes (high frequency) and goes via SWIS (South Wellington Intermediate School) and Rintoul Street.
The No. 32X also runs every 10 minutes between 7-9 a.m and 4-6 p.m weekdays, and takes the more direct route over the straight Adelaide Rd (no, not Australia, this is NZ).
Wellington is currently the 2nd biggest city in NZ (behind Auckland), with a population of over 400,000, and is the capital of NZ.
Was aiming to catch the 7:25 a.m bus but didn't make it, and the 7:35 a.m was only a single decker, not a DOUBLE DECKER. So caught the 7:43 a.m .
Please note in Australia and New Zealand, WINTER is June/July/August.
43 Bus Route from Strathmore to Strathmore via Khandallah, Wellington NZ - Timelapse
This is the longest bus route operated by GO Wellington. Taking from 1.5 to 2 hours in normal traffic.
If you only want to watch the return trip from Khandallah:

UPDATE: Mad Campers has given their whole fleet a face-lift with new compressor fridges (that work!), smarter storage for bedding, built-in cookers in the kitchen, and complementary roof racks! We love working with a brand that listens to their customers!

New Wellington Double Decker Buses No. 1 ROUTE trip time lapse (Island Bay/Johnsonville) July 2018
Time lapse video of one of the main bus routes in Wellington on one of the new Double Decker buses.
Metlink and Greater Wellington Regional Council, rolled out the first major change to Wellington's Bus public transport system, changing routes, timetables and fares, for the first time in like 20 years. Wellington has over 400,000 people who live in Zones 1-3 of Metlink's commuter map.
You could catch the bus AND the train to Johnsonville, or just catch the bus and save transferring to a train. Your 30 day Go Wellington Snapper Pass will cover you from Island Bay to Johnsonville since it's within Zones 1-3.
A lot of people INCLUDING ME like the new double decker buses, which came in to service notably when the new system took play July 15, 2018. It will take the company, drivers, and public, another month before more get used to the new system. It has it's pro's and cons. The Karori to Seatoun route doesn't get double decker buses sadly since they can't fit through Mt. Victoria Bus Tunnel. The only routes I've seen them operate are the Island Bay 1 and 32X routes, and the Brooklyn 7 route.
The double decker buses are fun and gr8.
