[4K] Walk In Winnipeg, Canada Abandoned Trappist Monastery
Trappist Monastery | St Norbert Winnipeg Manitoba | DJI Spark | Cinematic Drone
Headed down to St. Norbert in south Winnipeg this week to film some drone footage of the old Trappist Monastery! Enjoy!
The Trappist Monastery was established in 1892 by five monks who were members of the Trappist Order from the Abbey of Bellefontaine, France. In 1978, the Trappists moved to a site near Holland, Manitoba, to protect their life from the effects of urban sprawl. Unfortunately a fire gutted the vacated church and residential wing five years later. All that's left are the ruins.

St. Norbert, Manitoba. Canada.
Trappist Monastery Provincial Heritage Park is situated in St. Norbert, Manitoba in the outskirts of Winnipeg. Five members of the Trappist Order from the Abbey of Bellefontaine, France created the Monastery in 1892. The Monastery was moved to Holland, Manitoba in 1978. In 1983 it was burned down. The Heritage Park now shows the ruins of the Monastery and an adjacent guest house.

The architectural ruins of Our Lady of the Prairies recall an earlier time when monks of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance, called Trappists, lived in the quiet confines of the surrounding monastery. The monks pursued a life of prayer, work and contemplation, according to the Rule of St. Benedict.
For 86 years, from its establishment in 1892, the monastery thrived in this secluded location along the LaSalle River. The Trappists' move in 1978 to a new site was prompted by urban encroachment, an intrusion into their life of peaceful solitude.
Fire gutted the vacated church and residential wing in 1983.
Under the ARC Program, building remnants were stabilized, the grounds were landscaped and interpretive signs were installed along paths. The setting has been used for special events like the popular Shakespeare in the Ruins.
Park Directions

Trappist Monastery Ruins - St Norbert, Manitoba
This clip was filmed at the Trappist Monastery Ruins, about 10 minutes from our home. It's like some-body cut out an itsy bitsy chunk of England and Quebec and transplanted them on the banks of the Red River on Manitoba prairies. The original scores were Gregorian chants, however these work just fine. Maybe better. I'll be doing more stuff in this location, for all 4 seasons, some similiar, some different as well as in some other plans I have.
