Ancient MAYAN FOOD - Jungle Cooking in MAYA VILLAGE in Quintana Roo, Mexico!
Ancient Mayan food in Quintana Roo, Mexico!

One of the experiences I really wanted to have when I visit the Quintana Roo state of Mexico, was to learn about, cook, and eat authentic ancient Mayan food. So we rented a van, and drove over to the small jungle Mayan village of Chunhuhub, to meet up with Kíichpam K'áax ( who are aiming to preserve their Mayan culture.
It was about a 3.5 hour drive to get to Chunhuhub from Playa Del Carmen, so by the time we arrived we were all pretty hungry. We walked through the milpa (Mesoamerican crop growing system), and finally to the kitchen within the jungle of the property.
They were already busy cooking, preparing a few traditional Mayan foods, like a variety of tamales and cochinita pibil. They prepared everything to be cooked in the pib, the ancient Mayan traditional way of cooking - an underground hot rock oven (there are many cultures around the world who have used or still use a similar underground cooking technique).
Tok-sel - One of the most fascinating dishes they cooked was white beans, and they took a hot rock out of the fire, stuck it into the pan with the beans, and roasted them with the rock. It was incredible to see, and the beans had an incredible ummai flavor to them. They were delicious especially when paired with freshly made corn tortillas.
Achiote (annatto) - An interesting ingredients, used commonly in Mayan food and cooking, is achiote, a pod filled with red / orange fruit. It has a slight pepper and lemony taste, and also makes everything that uses it, bright orange.
Cochinita pibil - One of the main ingredients in cochinita pibil is achiote. They had pre-marinated it, and it cooked underground as well. The flavor of the pork was amazing, and with tortillas, onions, and salsa, it was truly support.
We had a number of different tamales as well, all of which were totally different from any tamales I’ve ever had. They were hearty and packed full of corn and beans, and very filling. They were a little on the dry side, but I fully enjoyed learning about them, and watching them being made. The different leaves, including the hoja santa, was great to learn about.
Special thanks to Centro Ecoturistico Kíichpam K'áax ( for putting everything together. They have an eco lodge and offer various off the beaten path activities like this.

Arrived in Mexico
This was the most exciting day this year for me! This was the day that I finally went to Mexico! Everything was packed and ready so I said good-bye and started driving to Baltimore airport. I got the airport, checked in and started flying to Los Angeles, California. When I got there, I waited for the next flight to San Diego, California. Ate some food and then flew to San Diego. Then I had to get an Uber, which I did and then I had to cross the US border into Mexico. It was super easy to cross the border. They didn't even check my passport! After crossing the border, my service wasn't working so I asked a police officer to use his phone to contact my friend Ulises. Once I did that, he came and we started driving to Mexicali. By the way, I was in Tijuana, Mexico where I crossed the border. Then we stopped by a scenic view where we took some pictures. Once we got to Mexicali, I greeted everyone and then towards the end of the day, we sang some songs and my friend played the guitar and then we went to sleep.

Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico:
My wife Ying and I, and our baby Micah, traveled to Mexico with my friend Carlos and his family. I met Carlos many years ago in University in Phoenix, Arizona, and he’s originally from Sonora, in Northern Mexico. Throughout University, Carlos and I would eat Mexican food non-stop, and we dreamed of traveling in Mexico to experience more. Finally we made this trip happen!
We actually flew into Cancun, and then immediately drove down to Playa Del Carmen where we based ourselves. On our first day we decided to take a day trip to Tulum, a small town on the Riviera Maya coast, and one of the official historical port cities of the Maya.
Taquería Honorio - First things first, we started off with some breakfast tacos at a well known Mexican street food spot in Tulum. I had a mix of four different types of tacos, all of which were extraordinary, but probably the best was the lechon, the roast suckling pig. This is a must eat tacos restaurant when you’re in Tulum.
Price for my plate - 64 MXN ($3.45)
Ruins of Tulum - 70 MXN ($3.77) - One of the main attractions in Tulum are the ancient Mayan ruins. It’s a beautiful place, and what makes it so incredible are not only the ruins, but the fact that they are right up along the gorgeous turquoise Caribbean coast. It was great to walk around, even though it was packed with visitors.
Playa Paraiso - Next we drove over to Playa Paraiso, just down the beach from the Ruins of Tulum, which crystal sparkling water.
Chamico’s - By lunchtime we were all very hungry, so we drove over to a place called Chamico’s a spot I had searched out on Google maps. Just from the photos it looked like a place I needed to go, from the relaxing atmosphere to the amazing fresh seafood. It was just as good as I had imagined. The restaurant was right along the beach, breezy, and the Mexican food was amazing. We had a few plates of ceviche, fried fish, and a shrimp cocktail.
Total price (for 4) - 1,180 MXN ($63.53)
Tulum, Mexico, is a true beach paradise, and it’s an amazing place to visit in Mexico. Thank you for watching!

MY EXPERIENCE HAVING SURGERY IN MEXICO (Cost, Hospital, Recovery)
What it was like getting cosmetic surgery in Cancun, Mexico (Hospital stay, safety, surgery cost in Mexico, and more)
► Learn Spanish like us!
In December 2019, I got plastic surgery in Mexico. In our last video (linked below) I shared my experience with Breast Implant Illness (BII) and why I decided to get an en bloc capsulectomy, AKA explant surgery. After that video, we got a flood of comments asking us to share more about the medical side of that experience. In this video on medical tourism in Mexico, we’re answering these questions:
- How much is surgery in Mexico? (Cost of surgery, appointments, blood testing, prescriptions)
- Is surgery in Mexico safe?
- What is a hospital visit in Mexico like?
- What did I think of getting plastic surgery in Cancun?
- Who is my plastic surgeon in Cancun?
- Do I recommend getting cosmetic surgery abroad?
- And more
Did we answer all your questions about my experience getting explant surgery in Mexico? If not, please let us know in a comment. We hope to help others make an informed decision about medical tourism in Mexico.

Street Food in Oaxaca - CHEESE CORN CHAMPION and Mexican Meat Alley Tour in Mexico!
►SUBSCRIBE for 2 new videos per week:
►T-shirts available now:
One of the places I was most excited to visit in Mexico for food (Comida Oaxaqueña) is Oaxaca. Oaxaca has one of the most developed and advanced food cultures in all of Mexico. For our first day, we set out on a Mexican street food tour of Oaxaca, eating everything we could see.
Mercado de Abastos - We began the morning at one of the biggest local fresh food markets in Oaxaca. I samples a Tamal de Mole - 11 MXN ($0.59) and a hot Chocolate - 10 MXN ($0.53), both of which were delicious, and a great way to start this tour.
Soup - 30 MXN ($1.60) per bowl - The market was just opening, but there was a busy soup stall, so we stopped to have a bowl. The fish and shrimp soup were both delicious.
Memelas - 30 MXN ($1.60) total - One of the ultimate Mexican street foods to try in Oaxaca is memalas, a round of masa, cooked and topped with salsa and cheese, and your choice of other toppings. We got it with grilled meat on top. It was delicious, one of the best things I ate throughout the day.
Carnitas - 30 MXN ($1.60) total - This was just a quick impulse taco on the go because it looked so good… it was.
Zócalo Oaxaca, Plaza de Santo Domingo - The center of Oaxaca is a pleasant place to hang out, only today there happen to be a protest going on, so it was a bit busy.
Mercado 20 de Noviembre - Meat combo - 300 MXN ($16.02) - This is one of the great meat halls of the world. You walk in to the meat sauna, choose your meat, they grill it all in front of you, and you eat it with tortillas and salsa. An amazing food paradise.
Tlayudas El Negro - Tlayudas are another common Oaxacan street food, using giant tortillas filled with beans, cabbage, and cheese, and then grilled.
Price - 80 MXN ($4.27) for 1
Monte Albán - Resting our stomachs, we did a little sightseeing in Oaxaca. One of the famous attractions are the ruins of Monte Alban.
Elote - 20 MXN ($1.07) - You’ll find elotes, a corn on the cobb with cheese and salsas, all over Mexico. It’s one of the most common Mexican street foods… but this guy is at the main plaza of Oaxaca is on another level. His style is champion!
Mole negro - 60 MXN ($3.20) per plate - Finally to end this Mexican street food tour of Oaxaca, we needed to have a plate of mole negro, one of the national dishes of Oaxaca.
It was an amazing day of food. Oaxaca has such a rich culture of food and friendly people.

Is there a Haunted Toys ‘R’ Us? - The Grumps
It's almost Halloween, and it's time to get spooky. This week we get deep into the lore of a California urban legend: a haunted ToysRUs in Sunnyvale, California. Can Arin convince Dan that ghosts are real with vintage evidence, poorly written articles, and dramatic reenactments??
What's really spooky is the weird ads on these articles.

First, the pros then cons then general tips.
I'm feeling a bit sick in the video and my nose is plugged, but you only checkout once so I had to shoot! I tried to be high energy, but it comes off as just awkward sometimes:/
This is my first professional video where I shoot with a mic and I edit the video to cut out any wasted time.
Summary:
1. Know your city. For example, if you cannot drink the tap water, provide the guest a few days worth of drinking water upon checkin. Does it rain? Provide an umbrella and purchase a new one when the first gets damaged, lost, or stolen. It's a cost of doing business.
2. Is your shower head moldy? Then clean it!
3. Test your internet speed with fast.com and compare to averages in your city. Be average at a minimum here.
4. You must provide scissors, otherwise, your guest uses a knife to open things, cuts himself and sues you!
5. You must provide proper cooking equipment! This includes the often-forgotten wooden spoon! A wooden spoon will extend the length of your cookware.
6. Plus, more goodies.

One of the questions I most frequently get asked is, “where are you from?” And I’m sure you get that question a lot too. Up until now, I had always said that I was from the United States, but my mother is Chinese and my Father has German roots. So it was an honor to be invited by 23andMe to participate in a DNA test to figure out my exact ancestry, and I was excited to participate.
My DNA test results - I am exactly 51.3 East Asian / Native American and 48.7% European (Germany / France). That’s my exact breakdown, so now you know exactly where I’m from and where my ancestry is from.
Ying and I chose to visit Germany, so we flew from Bangkok to Munich. After checking into our apartment in Munich we set off to eat German food - something I have very little experience with.
Here are the German food restaurants included in this video:
1. Haxnbauer
Whole roasted pork knuckle
Sausage and sauerkraut
Potato dumplings
Total price for everything - €56.50 total
2. Augustiner Keller München
Beer, apple juice, pretzel - €14.50 total

Everybody's CRAZY about SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS!!
Said to be the BEST Pueblo Magico of all, we're here to find out why San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas is so magical.
►Subscribe to our channel for more travel videos!
We are traveling in Mexico and it's our first time in the state of Chiapas. We decided to visit the Pueblo Mágico, San Cristóbal de las Casas. The former president of Mexico said this Magic Town is THE most magical of all the Pueblos Mágicos. With all the hype, we were extra excited to visit this mountain town and see what the food, culture, nature, and people are like.
Like many places in Mexico, San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas totally surprised us! It's an absolute melting pot of travelers from Europe, the United States, Mexico, and also a large population of indigenous people. With so many groups of people, it's no surprise that this is a city rich in culture. We were also pretty shocked to find out the expat community is quite large as well.
Find out our deeper thoughts on the town of San Cristobal de las Casas in today's travel Mexico vlog. We also talk about what it was like driving in Mexico from Veracruz to Chiapas 2018.
