Grande Cenote Underwater Camera Tulum Mexico
Watch as divers and snorklers swim with fish and turtles in grande Gran Cenote, a portion of an underwater cave system in the Yucatan of Mexico. Part of a larger Sistema Sac Actun. Gran Cenote is about 5km from Tulum, Mexico. Crystal clear water, fish, turtle abound in this geologic feature.
A Cenote is a natural pit, or sinkhole, resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. Especially associated with the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, cenotes were sometimes used by the ancient Maya for sacrificial offerings. The term derives from a word used by the low-land Yucatec Maya — ts'onot — to refer to any location with accessible groundwater. Cenotes are common geological forms in low latitude regions, particularly on islands, coastlines, and platforms with young post-Paleozoic limestones that have little soil development.

Divers discover 215-mile-long cave in Mexico full of Mayan relics
A group of divers have connected two underwater caverns in eastern Mexico to reveal what is believed to be the biggest flooded cave on the planet, a discovery that could help shed new light on the ancient Maya civilisation.
The Gran Acuifero Maya, (GAM) a project dedicated to the study and preservation of the subterranean waters of the Yucatan peninsula, said the 347 kilometre- (216 mile-) cave was identified after months of exploring a maze of underwater channels.
Near the beach resort of Tulum, the group found that the cave system known as Sac Actun, once measured at 263 km (163 miles), communicated with the 83 km- (52 km-) Dos Ojos system, the GAM said in a statement. For that reason, Sac Actun now absorbs Dos Ojos.
The Yucatan peninsula of Mexico is studded with monumental relics of the Maya people, whose cities drew upon an extensive network of sinkholes linked to subterranean waters known as cenotes.
Some cenotes acquired particular religious significance to the Maya, whose descendants continue to inhabit the region.

DOS OJOS CENOTE SCUBA DIVING IN TULUM MEXICO
Dos Ojos Cenote is a magical place for scuba diving just outside of Tulum. It's one of the many Cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula, and has a reputation for beautiful diving and snorkeling. Mexico is an incredible country and the entire Riviera Maya has so many unique and amazing dive sites. If you're not certified you're missing out. Half of the appeal of this part of the world is Underwater!
Tulum is not too far from Cancun or Playa del Carmen, you can take a collectivo (a local taxi van) for very cheap to travel along the coast. Once you're there, you can see a lot around the town, and there are several cenotes to visit. Taxi's aren't too bad once your there, and there are a lot of dive shops that will take you to the cenotes. I went with Infinity2diving, their info is a little bit lower on the list!
I arrived here with the expectation of getting my Cave Diving certification, it turns out there is a type of diving called Cavern Diving. This means you never leave the guide line, and you always are able to see ambient light. This was enough for me, as on several of these dives we were well underground, with only a faint glow in the distance of sunlight. You have to be an advanced scuba diver to be allowed to participate in this type of dive. I highly recommend you get certified that high!
