The Two Towers Brewery, Birmingham
The Two Towers Brewery was established in Birmingham in 2009. The name is a reference to JRR Tolkien who spent his childhood in the city, and to the landmarks which he knew as a child.
The two towers of Birmingham are Perrotts Folly and the Edgbaston waterworks tower.
This very short film shows the brewery in the Mott Street location before production is moved to the Gunmakers Arms. Please visit thew brewery to learn more about the process and to taste the results.

Perrott's Folly - The Two Towers of Birmingham
Perrott’s Folly towers above Edgbaston in Birmingham. Built in 1758 by John Perrott as a gazebo overlooking parkland - a place for entertainment and relaxation. The tower is 29m tall and built from warm red brick in Strawberry Hill Gothic style. There are 7 levels connected by a spiral staircase.
The fortified chimney of Edgbaston waterworks is a close neighbour.
Many people think these two towers were the inspiration for Tolkien’s towers in the Lord of the Rings as he lived and studied nearby. There is no reference to them in the Tolkien archive so it is, perhaps, a Middle Earth myth.
Birmingham landmarks and the countryside beyond, can be seen from the round and arched Windows. Birmingham Oratory is to the south east of the folly. Tolkien was an altar boy beneath the gilded dome. To the north, high rise buildings of Birmingham city centre. Old Joe, Birmingham university clock tower, is due south.
Perrott’s Folly is a Georgian delight entwined in legend.

Tolkien Bus tour Birmingham
Our `unexpected journey‘ will highlight the area around Sarehole Mill which is said to have been the model for `The Shire‘ the home of the hobbits and Moseley Bog which is recalled in Tolkien’s description of the `Old Forest’ last of the primeval wild woods where `Tom Bombadil’ lived.
The route will take us past his home in Moseley where he could take a tram to King Edward’s School in the centre of the city and progresses to St Anne’s Church where the family worshipped when Tolkien’s mother became a Catholic...
LANGLEY MALTINGS, ABANDONED VICTORIAN BREWERY AND MALT HOUSE (1870) discovered very bad smell ????
In today's video we are exploring Langley Maltings. I came across this amazing Victorian building while out just scouting for new locations. Upon entering and looking around I thought it was a tile or brick factory because of the kilns but after a bit of research I learned it was actually a brewery and malt house which was built in 1898 and was still in use as one of the last traditional floor malting factories until it's closure in 2006. Parts of the building were destroyed in a fire in 2009 and the owners applied for demolition but were denied because this is a grade 2 listed building. This is somewhere in the West Midlands, England.
