My Adult Space Camp Experience
Hi everyone! Katie here with a very exciting vlog for you- I spent a weekend at Space Camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center! I knew growing up that you could go to Space Camp as a kid, but I didn’t realize there are several age groups available, right up to adult! The adult program is super convenient - starting on Friday afternoons and running through Sunday mornings.

The Best Ever tour of America's Deep South. Part 1 of 4
Margaret and Derek join a coach tour to the fascinating world of 'Deep South', birthplace of some of the world's most original artists and their Jazz, Blues and Country music. In Part 1 they arrive in Atlanta, Georgia and travel on to Chattanooga in Tennessee. They visit the Martin Luther King Centre, CNN Building, Centennial Olympic Park, and the Cyclorama. In Chattanooga they stay at the Choo Choo Hotel, see Ross's Landing, Rock City, Lookout Mountain, the Incline Railway and finally the Hotel's remarkable Model Railroad.
My 2015 Space Camp Experience
My first of hopefully many visits to Space Camp. This was a childhood dream that finally became a reality. Spent 6 days at the Adult Advanced Space Academy (train with an astronaut) program with the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. During the 6 days, we did everything from learning, training, scuba diving, rocket construction, conducting missions, performing EVAs, flight simulators, tours, traveled to Mars in the Orion capsule, performed experiments aboard ISS, and hanging with real astronauts Robert Hoot Gibson and Robert Wolf Springer.
I like making these types of videos but they are mostly for me and close friends. I apologize in advance for the poor filming. I used saved snapchats, galaxy gear watch footage, phone captures, and a small camera to get pretty much all of the shots. I took very few from other people's Facebook profiles.
The songs are Royalty-free, taken from many different sites.
Sorry that it's so long. I was recording about 50% of the time so this is 6 days worth of awesomeness, filtered down to 36 minutes.
I hope you enjoy. I welcome your comments and any questions about this great program. NASA rules!!!
Huntsville, Alabama Rocket City, USA A Spirit Of Exploration - Unravel Travel TV
Huntsville is a city that values exploration. Known as Rocket City, USA, scientists and engineers in Huntsville helped put men on the moon during the Space Race. Today, that same spirit of innovation and opportunity bursts from every nook and corner of the city. After all, you don't get to space without a spirit of exploration. Just like you don't travel without a desire to discover new ideas and ways of thinking, being and doing. Huntsville understands travel. Our community was built around it.
Before and during the Civil War, Huntsville was a center for railroad and river-based trade and commerce. The Tennessee River remains a favorite local spot for summertime fun. Even now, we boast one of the nation’s oldest existing railroad depots where Civil War-era graffiti still marks the walls from the Confederate soldiers who were held captive there.
Unlike many Southern communities during the Civil War, Huntsville's buildings were mostly spared from destruction – leaving the Rocket City with one of the largest concentrations of antebellum homes in the South. The heart of this historic area is called Twickenham – a nod to the city’s original name given by pioneer John Hunt in 1805.
Over time, Huntsville was inhabited by wealthy cotton growers and land speculators in search of frontier property. The growing town turned toward textile manufacturing, establishing several mills that helped organize the town into distinct districts that still exist today as local landmarks of industry and creativity.
Landmarks
Look at the structures across town and you’ll see a beautiful collection of antebellum homes, renovated manufacturing mills, iconic Greek Revival-style buildings, a perfectly preserved down-home hardware store – the oldest in the state – and even a few spaceships. Where else can you find that combination?
In the middle of the 20th century, our bustling town became a critical support line for the U.S. Army before helping to launch the Space Race with the establishment of NASA and the Marshall Space Flight Center. Space exploration is celebrated across all of Huntsville – we are known as “Rocket City USA” after all – but it’s especially celebrated at Alabama’s most popular attraction, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.
Academia has thrived since the early days of Huntsville thanks to Alabama A&M University, Oakwood University and the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s continued development into premiere research facilities.
Expanding further into science, technology and other industries is Cummings Research Park, the second largest in the nation. Established in 1962, this impressive consortium of more than 300 companies adds a bustling population of engineers, doctors, students and creatives. #EmbraceTheGeek.
The history of Huntsville has seen numerous influxes of new faces from all over the world, which makes our history and identity an ever-changing tapestry. From humble beginnings, the “Rocket City” has grown into a future-minded place to live, work, play... and, of course, to visit.

Fund our trip to Seattle -
My family and I moved to Huntsville, AL in 2001 from Germany. The people in Huntsville made us feel welcomed and we were privileged to call Huntsville our new home.
Now, after 13 years, my wife and I decided to go on an adventure and move to Seattle, WA and so I have made this video as a little Thank You to Huntsville, its people and the time that I got to spend in this city.

The city extends west into neighboring Limestone County. Huntsville's population was 180,105 as of the 2010 census. The Huntsville Metropolitan Area's population was 417,593.Huntsville is the fourth-largest city in Alabama and the largest city in the five-county Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area, which at the 2013 census estimate had a total population of 683,871. It grew across nearby hills north of the Tennessee River, adding textile mills, then munitions factories, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and the United States Army Aviation and Missile Command nearby at the Redstone Arsenal. The National Trust for Historic Preservation named Huntsville to its America's Dozen Distinctive Destinations for 2010 list.

Alabama Water Resources - NASA DEVELOP Spring 2013 @ Marshall Space Flight Center
There is an inherent relationship between aquatic vegetation growth and water drainage near locations of high agricultural activity. For years, farmers have been made aware of the potential effects of nutrients found in fertilizers on the aquatic ecosystems and water quality in fresh lakes. Aquatic vegetation, classified in Lake Guntersville by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources as emergent, submersed, floating, or algal, limit the amount of water readily available for human use. This forces resource management agencies such as the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to attempt eradication using herbicides. Multispectral satellite imagery using the near-infrared and red wavelengths facilitates the creation of vegetation indices for observing aquatic vegetation growth in the lake and seasonal variations for Lake Guntersville in northern Alabama. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was used in conjunction with a hydrologic model developed from Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) data of 90-meter resolution, displaying the drainage points for locations around the lake in proximity to high agricultural activity. A regression analysis determined the most correlated factors affecting excessive vegetation growth and displayed the impact of nutrient rich runoff from farming communities flowing into Lake Guntersville. These results will lead to more efficient herbicide spraying in areas with high vegetation concentration, which will cut costs, avoid excess spraying and limit human contact to herbicides. Resulting maps outlined the growth of vegetation due to runoff from certain agricultural areas, making farmers more aware of the effects nutrients have on local lake ecosystems.
