EXETER UNDERGROUND PASSAGES
Exeter's underground passages dates back to the 14th century, They were built to bring clean drinking water from natural springs through lead pipes into the heart of the city. The pipes sometimes sprang leaks, and repairs were made along these passages, It was very dark in those passages so the quality is not at its best, But thank you for watching.

Exeter Underground Passages
City in England
The passages have always fascinated local people, with stories of wars and sieges, plague and pestilence. They were designed to bring clean drinking water from natural springs outside the walled city, through lead pipes into the heart of the city. The pipes sometimes leaked and repairs to buried pipes could only be carried out by digging them up as we do today. To avoid this disruption the passages were vaulted and it is down some of these vaulted passageways that visitors are guided.

Exeter's Underground Passages
This is a very short video of my trip in the underground passages of Exeter, Devon, which is one of the many things you can do when you visit the city.
As you will see in the video, it gets quite dark in parts and at one point we were climbing through a narrow passage. That part is optional.

City in England
Exeter is an ancient city on the River Exe in southwest England. Dating back to the Roman era, the Exeter City Walls surround its center and Gothic Exeter Cathedral.
Exeter Castle, a Norman landmark, overlooks leafy Northernhay and Rougemont Gardens. To their west, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) displays fine art and costumes. The vaulted, medieval Underground Passages snake beneath the city.

THE LOST CITY OF EXETER
Exeter is a city of great beauty and a place very close to my heart. These are a few still images sourced from the public domain and edited together to make this montage. The damage to the Cinema by a wartime bomb can still be seen today if you look at the chunks missing from the steps and entrance way. It must be said the City Council are systematicaly finishing the work of the Luftwaffe, and so many of these old buildings have been demolished in my lifetime. The ornate Street lamps that can be seen in many of these images still exist in the Councils yard on Marsh Barton. The rickety wooden houses at 1:19 still exist. You can see the ones still remaining if you walk past Endicotts down New Bridge Street and look over the parapit, just above the leat is possibly the last untouched Tudor building left in town.

Memories of the Exeter Blitz
Our reporter Jane Chandler has been speaking with survivors of the Exeter Blitz. It took place some 75 years ago and a group of people in their mid-eighties and nineties have taken part in a film to share their memories. The Blitz was the single most destructive event to hit the city. More than 250 people died. Among those who witnessed what happened at Joy Lovell who was just ten at the time. James Board who was 14 , Dorothy Simmonds who was ten and Ivor Doble who’s now 92.
Speaking in order are

Let's visit Exeter City! - Underground Passage, Reptile Store, Critters & Review (rhinobeetle.co.uk)
Last week I visited Exeter City, located in the South West of England. We started off in Exeter's Underground Passages - built in the 14th & 15th Century these passages brought in fresh spring water from outside into the city - the passages were built underground with the lead pipes bringing the water to fountains.
For more info:
Along the way, we found the Exeter Cathedral and the Royal Clarence Hotel, unfortunately destroyed by fire last year. There is a huge clean up operation going on, with builders removing the debris and people documenting all the historic things they can salvage:

Walking further through Exeter, my husband saw a reptile store which I made a beeline to. Exeter Exotics has really friendly and helpful staff with a great selection of critters:

For all your Rhino Beetle needs, I would strongly recommend rhinobeetle.co.uk . They have an amazing selection of larvae and beetles, with all the tools you could possibly need to keep them. Very fast and secure delivery too! With regards to the smell of the substrate, the owner of the company has assured me that this does disappear once the bag is opened, the smell is due to the fermentation process to add extra nutritional value. :)
