How big data redefines global culture / University of Tyumen / Cultural studies
A big data project for the University of Tyumen – ‘Elsewhere’ – through data science analyses millions of cultural events to understand how cultural trends are spread across the world. How many cultural centers are there on the planet? Why art biennales are de-facto drivers of global culture? The ultimate goal of this project is to draw the first map of global culture. This task that has never been tackled before can be likened to drawing the first geographic maps of the World.
The project is directed by Lev Manovich - a pioneer in using computational methods to study contemporary culture. He has been developing tools to analyse and visualise massive cultural datasets in humanities studies since the early 2000s.

Expats moved to Russia to inspire and motivate students | motivational video for teachers
Erika and David’s Russian story is truly inspiring. They teach students to think about the world from a different perspective; to improve critical thinking and team experiences, while finding a way to consolidate modern educational methods and strengths of the current system. Accordingly, students are inspired to believe in themselves, improve study motivation and understand that their opinions and ideas matter and have an actual impact.
Moreover, Erika and David support the community of expatriates in the university and actively help promote it. It’s a necessary task, because Russia’s traditional education system, culture and seemingly harsh climate can be clearly awkward for some foreigners.
This special consideration and motivation for success allows them to solve such different issues effectively. Their approach is: “If you’re going to study and you’re planning to have an intensive intellectual life, you need more isolation.”
It may be hard to believe, but in terms of standards of living, Tyumen holds one of the leading positions in the country. Because of this, the University of Tyumen is considered one of the best educational institutions in Russia.
To this end, the decision of our protagonists to move to Russia and get a job teaching at the School of Advanced Studies is both understandable and intriguing!

No More Summer Vibes in Russia - YouTube Deleted My Video! ????
Hello, my dear friends! This is a new video about summer vibes in my remote Russian town. Some days ago I tried to show you our happy warm summer, but it turned into my first disappointing YouTube experience - YouTube deleted my video. It was my summertime sadness! I didn`t expect that - it was a simple summer vlog, showing you our ordinary summer day off. I wanted you to feel Summer Vibes in Russia. But I failed.
I like summer in Russia - it is different in every region. Summer in Moscow Russia is mostly cool and rainy. Summer in Siberia can look more like early spring. But our Volgograd summertime is mostly warm and sunny.
My previous video about summer time in Volgograd is my first deleted video now. If you`ve seen it, you are lucky, my friend! And I hope that there will be no more deleted videos from YouTube from my channel. I don`t want to violate the Community Guidelines, I make vlogs about life in Russia, Remote Russia, Remote Russian towns, Russian people and everyday Russian life.
I`m creating a family-friendly life in Russia blog and don`t want to be punished by YouTube. I`m showing you Real Russia, Different Russia not shown on TV. And I hope that Google won`t decide to delete from YouTube any other videos.
I hope that you are enjoying the summer! And I wish you a wonderful weekend!
Thank you very much for watching! Please, subscribe, like and stay with us! Greetings from Russia! :)
If you would like to support my small channel, you can do it now! And I`ll be very grateful to you! ❤️

Moscow (/ˈmɒskoʊ, -kaʊ/; Russian: Москва́, tr. Moskvá, IPA: [mɐˈskva] (listen)) is the capital and most populous city of Russia, with 13.2 million residents within the city limits[11] and 17 million within the urban area.[12] Moscow is one of Russia's federal cities.
Moscow is a major political, economic, cultural, and scientific centre of Russia and Eastern Europe, as well as the largest city (both by population and by area) entirely on the European continent. By broader definitions Moscow is among the world's largest cities, being the 14th largest metro area, the 18th largest agglomeration, the 14th largest urban area, and the 11th largest by population within city limits worldwide. According to Forbes 2013,[13] Moscow has been ranked as the ninth most expensive city in the world by Mercer and has one of the world's largest urban economies, being ranked as an alpha global city according to the Globalization and World Cities Research Network, and is also one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the world according to the MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index.
Moscow is the northernmost and coldest megacity and metropolis on Earth. It is home to the Ostankino Tower, the tallest free standing structure in Europe; the Federation Tower, the second-tallest skyscraper in Europe; and the Moscow International Business Center. By its territorial expansion on July 1, 2012 southwest into the Moscow Oblast, the area of the capital more than doubled, going from 1,091 to 2,511 square kilometers (421 to 970 sq mi), resulting in Moscow becoming the largest city on the European continent by area; it also gained an additional population of 233,000 people.[14][15]
Moscow is situated on the Moskva River in the Central Federal District of European Russia, making it Europe's most populated inland city. The city is well known for its architecture, particularly its historic buildings such as Saint Basil's Cathedral with its colourful architectural style. With over 40 percent of its territory covered by greenery, it is one of the greenest capitals and major cities in Europe and the world, having the largest forest in an urban area within its borders—more than any other major city—even before its expansion in 2012. The city has served as the capital of a progression of states, from the medieval Grand Duchy of Moscow and the subsequent Tsardom of Russia to the Russian Empire to the Soviet Union and the contemporary Russian Federation.
Moscow is the seat of power of the Government of Russia, being the site of the Moscow Kremlin, a medieval city-fortress that is today the residence for work of the President of Russia. The Moscow Kremlin and Red Square are also one of several World Heritage Sites in the city. Both chambers of the Russian parliament (the State Duma and the Federation Council) also sit in the city. Moscow is considered the centre of Russian culture, having served as the home of Russian artists, scientists and sports figures and because of the presence of museums, academic and political institutions and theatres.
The city is served by a transit network, which includes four international airports,[16] nine railway terminals, numerous trams, a monorail system and one of the deepest underground rapid transit systems in the world, the Moscow Metro, the fourth-largest in the world and largest outside Asia in terms of passenger numbers, and the busiest in Europe. It is recognised as one of the city's landmarks due to the rich architecture of its 200 stations.[citation needed]
Moscow has acquired a number of epithets, most referring to its size and preeminent status within the nation: The Third Rome (Третий Рим), the Whitestone One (Белокаменная), the First Throne (Первопрестольная), the Forty Soroks (Сорок Сороков) (sorok meaning both forty, a great many and a district or parish in Old Russian).
Moscow is also one of the twelve Hero Cities. The demonym for a Moscow resident is москвич (moskvich) for male or москвичка (moskvichka) for female, rendered in English as Muscovite.
The name Moscow is abbreviated MSK (МСК in Russian).

Russian shareholder on bitter public dispute with oil giant

We made clear and understandable proposals which are aimed at creating parity in the management of the company and in its development towards becoming an independent Russian structure and so on. In as far as there are no reasonable arguments - unfortunately we don't talk about this subject - the only sensible position to take from a PR point of view was to try to present this as a conflict between an established and recognised Western company and wild hordes of Russian oligarchs, who are trying to gain control using shady methods like in the beginning of the 90s.

We'll take an active part in the management of the company. Of course they think, 'well, we're BP and these are just some oligarchs who have seized control and now they should return it to its rightful owners'. This is completely not the situation. We won't surrender anything because by rights it belongs to us, and that includes control of the company.

I don't think that it's bad for the image of Russian business or Russia if Russian business tries to solve contradictions which exist in one of the biggest Russian companies in a civilised manner. I don't think it's bad. I believe that such arguments conflicts between shareholders exist in any country and happen in all jurisdictions, it's a completely normal occurrence.

STORYLINE:
One of the Russian tycoons involved in a dispute with British Petroleum over its Russian joint venture on Monday said he and his partners had no intention of selling their stake.
Alfa Group head Mikhail Fridman said the Russian shareholders in TNK-BP would fight for changes in a company they believed was pursuing the interests of BP to the detriment of its own development.
At a news conference in Moscow, Fridman also said BP's Russian partners were adamant in their demands for equal board representation and the removal of TNK-BP's American chief executive, Robert Dudley, who has refused to step down.
We made clear and understandable proposals which are aimed at creating parity in the management of the company and in its development towards becoming an independent Russian structure and so on, Fridman told reporters.
He claimed BP had tried to present the conflict as one between an established and recognised Western company and wild hordes of Russian oligarchs, who are trying to gain control using shady methods like in the beginning of the 90s.
Fridman's remarks were part of a broadside against BP that also included two interviews in Russian newspapers.
He said the company must have an independent CEO and fewer BP employees working for it in Russia.
We won't surrender anything because by rights it belongs to us, and that includes control of the company, Fridman said.
He described the conflict as a completely normal occurrence and said that he didn't think it was bad for Russia's image if businesses tried to solve contradictions which exist in one of the biggest Russian companies in a civilised manner.
But Fridman on Monday insisted he and the other Russian shareholders had no plans to sell.
