$750,000 upgrade at University Oval
The University Oval cricket ground is being upgraded, to increase capacity on the embankment.
It's costing the Otago Cricket Association $750,000.
And the local economy is in line to benefit from another premier sporting facility.
Light up the Oval
The Otago Cricket Association's bid to secure lights for the University Oval has been boosted with New Zealand Cricket promising a steady stream of international games for the next eight years if lights can be acquired for the venue.

University Oval floodlights shelved
Plans to install floodlights at the University Oval are being put on hold.
The Otago Cricket Association is shelving the idea, due to rising costs.
It was promised $1m by the Dunedin City Council for the project.
But the association can't afford its share of expenses, which are skyrocketing.
Floodlights would allow international day-night tests to be played in Dunedin.
For that to happen, the Oval embankment needs to be expanded to accommodate a larger crowd.
Now the association's focusing on that upgrade before considering the installation of lights.

'Scarfies' refers to the large population of students in Dunedin, New Zealand.
Couch-burning was/is a pretty common event among some of the less than sober students in Dunedin.

Adults skipped work and children missed class as cricket fans flooded to the University Oval this morning. The sun broke through to set up an enthralling first day of the test between New Zealand and the West Indies. Without a win this year, New Zealand looked to make their intentions known early after losing the toss and being sent in to bat.
Council allocates funding for new lighting at University Oval
The Otago Cricket Association is getting a major financial boost to establish new lighting at the University Oval.
Up to a million dollars is being allocated to the project by the Dunedin City Council.
But not all councillors are seeing eye to eye over the funding.
