CHILEAN ADVENTURES IN SANTIAGO, ATACAMA and PATAGONIA
Chilean Adventures in Santiago, Atacama, and Patagonia
This is a wicked mix of urban and outdoor adventures with a kick-off in the very European city of Santiago. After a food market, hiking to a glacier outside of the city and a vineyard visit, to Chile's biggest, it was off to Pucon, the Aspen of Chile. There are expansive lakes and spirited locals and lovely mountainous.
Things really pick up with the visit to the Atacama where there is all from biking to hiking and horseback riding. The salt flats and the sunrise with the geyser mays be tow of the top highlights. The trips finish off with ice kayaking and marble caves in Patagonia. It doesn't get much better than Chile.
Check it out. If interested in a trip there, Women's Adventure Travels heads there next in April of 2020. Check out our site for trip details. (WomensAdventureTravels.com) or check out the Chile trip video.
Grab your best gals and join us on a trip.
Cheers!
Lofty

What are the best things to do in Santiago in 24 hours?
With only 24 hours to spend in the city of Santiago we had to get a move on to see all we wanted of the major attractions with limited time.
We ride the Funicular, see the views from the San Cristobal Hill (Cerro San Cristóbal) and the 22 metre statue of the Virgin Mary .
Lunch was a heartstopping, broiled pork and cheese sandwich, followed by a walk in Santa Lucía Hill (Cerro Santa Lucía). Finally see some of the nightlife in the Bella Vista area of the city.
Locations:-
Funicular de Santiago
Cerro San Cristobal
Fuente Alemana
Santa Lucia Hill
Paso Bandera
Patio Bella Vista

20 Things to do in Santiago de Chile Travel Guide
Our trip to Chile wouldn't have been complete without a visit to the capital, so towards the end of our stay we decided to visit Santiago. We had 4 days to discover what the city was all about, so we set out to visit the main attractions, sample Chilean food (Comida Chilena), and explore various neighborhoods on foot. We may not have been able to see it all, but the following is our experience in the city. For anyone planning a similar trip, here's a look at 20 things to do in Santiago de Chile on your visit:

20 Things to do in Santiago, Chile City Guide | Top Attractions Travel Guide Travel Video Transcript:
Santa Lucia is an urban park smack dab in the middle of Santiago and it’s a popular hangout in the afternoons and weekends. The hike is a pleasant one with lots to see, including fountains, spiralling staircases, defensive forts, sprawling gardens, and cool lookout points.
Lastarria is a neighbourhood located just east of Santa Lucia hill and it was once the bohemian hub of the city.Today it is very popular with tourists as it offers an outdoors flea market, an international mix of cafes and restaurants, & live music.
For panoramic views of the city, ride the funicular to the top of San Cristobal Hill.
Plaza de Armas is the heart of Santiago’s historic centre. There are lots of benches under the cover of palm trees, and the place is buzzing with activity. The Metropolitan Cathedral is located in the historic centre of Santiago overlooking the square. The construction you see today dates back to the year 1800, since previous cathedrals were destroyed in earthquakes.
Santiago’s Central Market is the place to come for the freshest food. You'll find rows of restaurants serving up everything from grilled fish to ceviche. We really like our ceviche, so we found a place serving exactly that.
Parque Forestal is a park that forms a long stretch of greenery along the Mapocho River. It’s a nice green escape in the middle of the city.
Palacio de la Moneda is the seat of the President of the Republic of Chile. This is where you can come to watch the changing of the guard. Just underneath Palacio de La Moneda, you’ll find Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda, which is a cultural centre featuring exhibitions, design shops, and a small selection of cafes.
Bellavista is a cultural hub with lots of theatres, cinemas, cafes, museums, and restaurants. The most famed home in the neighbourhood is La Chascona, the home of the famed Chilean poet Pablo Neruda.
And that's a wrap for the Chilean capital! We hope you enjoyed this Santiago travel guide and that it gave you a few ideas of things to do, places to visit, and Chilean dishes to try in the city.

Hiking up Cerro San Cristobal in Santiago, Chile
21 November 2012 - Part way up while hiking up Cerro San Cristóbal, the highest point in Santiago, Chile. There's a funicular that can take you up the hill, but I love hiking, so why not get the extra exercise on the way? On a clear day, the Andes mountains are clearly visible, but today they can be seen just faintly through the smog of one of Latin America's biggest cities...

GMBN's Travel Guide To Santiago, Chile | A Mountain Bike Scene Check
Nestled between the Andes and the Chilean Coastal Range, Santiago has a thriving MTB scene. San Cristóbal hill in the centre is ideal for quick lunch time laps; Las Varras trail network is a short ride from the city centre, perfect for racking up the post work miles; and the lift-accessed La Parva resort, of Andes Pacifico fame, can be shredded at the weekend????

Chile and Patagonia by Motorcycle — Tuttle Travels 2017
Solo adventure travel through Chile and Northern Patagonia!
Urban locations include Santiago, Valparaíso, Pucón, and Puerto Varas. Wild locations were largely reached by motorcycle along the Carretera Austral (Hwy 7) traveling South, including Parque Pumalín, Chaitén, Parque Nacional Queulat, Coyhaique, Puerto Rio Tranquilo, Capillas de Marmol (Marble Caves), Laguna & Glacier San Rafael of the Northern Patagonia Ice Field, Reserva Nacional Cerro Castillo, and a few unknown parts of the Lake District and Aysen region.
Motorcycle was a Zongshen 200GY dirt bike purchased brand new in Osorno. I hope she's still running wild & free out there.

Hiking Cerro San Cristóbal! Santiago, CHILE
Joseph's Summer 2018 trip: Hiking Parque Metropolitano! Santiago, CHILE.
In this video I take a Saturday stroll up to the Cerro San Cristóbal, part of the Parque Metropolitano, which overlooks all of Santiago. The views are crazy.
The main icon on the hill, the Statue of the Virgin Mary on San Cristóbal Hill, was inaugurated in 1908. The park itself covers around 722 hectares, making it the largest urban park in Chile and one of the largest in the world.
On its summit there is a sanctuary dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, with a 22-meter statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, an amphitheater and a chapel. The statue of the Immaculate Conception measures 14 meters tall, and the pedestal on which it rests is 8.3 meters in height. It weighs 36,610 kilograms.[2] Within the pedestal there is a small chapel in which Pope John Paul II prayed and blessed the city of Santiago on April 1, 1987. The statue is lit up at night by lights placed on its sides, allowing it to be viewed from all over Santiago both day and night.
I'll travel through the US to Los Angeles, onto Lima, Peru, Santiago, Chile and probably Uruguay and Colombia. Wahoo!
