Hear the story of the Merci Trains that were gifted to 49 states from the French as a sign of gratitude after World War II. Byron Lewis, Chairman of Ogden's Merci Boxcar organization, talks about the significance of the boxcar and explains why it's important to preserve its history.

City Walks: Ogden Utah virtual treadmill walking tour
In late November, we cruised through Ogden, Utah. I'd never been into the downtown of Ogden before and it was a very nice surprise. It's a decent sized city but hidden off at the base of the mountains. We'd stayed in Ogden before but out by the highway. This time we stayed downtown among many nice hotels. My walk took me into the restaurant area over near the railroad museum and railyard and there were many nice looking restaurants and shops and a couple of breweries. All in all, I'd go back and spend more time, but we were traveling so I had to get out early and then hit the road.

Great Model Railroads: Golden State Model Railroad Museum (Exclusive Hidden Scenes)
During my recent visit to San Francisco, I took the opportunity to visit the Golden State Model Railroad Museum, one of the oldest model railroad museums/clubs in United States. The exhibit has 3 large displays of the most popular scales - N, HO and O Scale Model Trains in a whooping 10000 sq feet area. This video shows some of the things that caught my eyes and gives a tour of the N Scale and HO Scale layouts in vivid detail.
I was graciously given the opportunity to walk along the operator's aisle in the HO section and thus was able to record the hidden scenes that you do not see from the visitor's aisle. And what t treat it was! Those hidden gems make this visit truly special.
Thank you to all the staff and volunteers of the club/museum for showing me around and helping me out. It was a fantastic afternoon and I hope I get a chance to visit again in future.

Big Boy Returns to Wyoming and Utah on its way to Southern California
The Big Boy is on the move again, this time touring the great southwest. We caught up with the train in Wyoming and chased as far as central Utah.
Once again the train glided down Utah's Echo Canyon this time in the freezing cold morning air leaving towering columns of steam in the clear cold air. We follow the train as far as Salt Lake City in today's show and on to Provo on Tuesday when we also take a look at the museum car and the steam program.
From the web:
UP 4014: a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy class freight steam locomotive, began operating in excursion service in 2019. It is the largest operational steam locomotive in the world. Delivered in 1941, the locomotive operated in revenue service until it was withdrawn in 1961. Following retirement, it was donated in late 1961 to the RailGiants Train Museum in Pomona, California, where it became one of the eight Big Boys preserved around the United States. On July 23, 2013, it was announced that the UP was acquiring UP 4014 from The Southern California Chapter of The Railway and Locomotive Historical Society in Pomona, with the goal of restoring it to service. No. 4014 was moved from Pomona to the Union Pacific West Colton yard on January 26, 2014, and then to Cheyenne, Wyoming from April 28, 2014 to May 8, 2014. Restoration to full operating condition was completed in May 2019, with its first excursion taking place during the same month.
