Russia - Life For Women In Russia
T/I: 10:21:09
On Friday, March 8th, all of Russia honours its women with
presents, flowers and a day free from household chores, Russian
women have reason both to celebrate and to be angry.
Russian women still carry the triple burden of career, housework
and childcare. On top of that they often perform the most
undesirable work, including heavy manual labour. However it is still claimed to be a male dominated society. The recent surge of erotica might have its good side for women.

Pre-revolutionary Russia in photographs
Kostroma about 1900
Part One
Here I present the first of two albums of original photographs taken of the town of Kostroma.
This historic town forms part of the Golden Ring of Russian towns, and is located at the confluence of the Volga and Kostroma Rivers.
The city was first recorded in the chronicles for the year 1213, but historians believe it could have been founded by Yury Dolgoruky more than half a century earlier, in 1152. Like other towns of the Eastern Rus, Kostroma was sacked by the Mongols in 1238.
The heroic peasant Ivan Susanin became a symbol of the city's resistance to foreign invaders; several monuments to him may be seen in Kostroma. The future Tsar, Mikhail Romanov, also lived at the monastery. It was here that an embassy from Moscow offered him the Russian crown in 1612. As a result, the Romanov Tsars regarded Kostroma as their special protectorate…………….

Siberia Drone Flight: Siberia is a vast Russian province encompassing most of Northern Asia, with terrain spanning tundra, coniferous forest and mountain ranges including the Ural, Altai and Verkhoyansk. Lake Baikal, in its south, is the worlds deepest lake, circled by a network of hiking paths called the Great Baikal Trail. The Trans-Siberian Railway passes Baikal on its route between Moscow and the Sea of Japan. Lake Baikals largest island, Olkhon, is a center of shamanism marked by Shaman Rock, an outcropping held sacred by indigenous islanders. The city of Irkutsk, the western gateway to Baikal, offers classical Russian architecture and Russian Orthodox churches. The Altai Mountains are river-rafting and mountaineering destinations with diverse wildlife and ecosystems. The Siberian Traps, a region of stairlike hills formed by ancient volcanoes, include Putorana Nature Reserve, which protects lakes and animals like reindeer and snow sheep. Novosibirsk, Siberias largest city, houses wood-lace buildings and the State Art Museum. // Irkutsk is a city on the Angara River in eastern Siberia, Russia. The river embankment is lined with hurches, including the Epiphany Cathedral (Sobor Bogoyavleniya), with gilded onion domes, and the Spasskaya Church, with its soaring bell tower. The restored neoclassical Moskovskie Vorota arch is also by the water. Near Kirov Square, the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum has ancient icons and more recent Russian artworks. // Ulan-Ude is a city in East Siberia, Russia. The main square Ploshchad Sovetov is home to the huge Lenin Head Monument. The City History Museum is set within the former house of a tea merchant. Nearby is the 18th-century Odigitrievsky Cathedral. To the north, Datsan Rinpoche Bagsha is a Buddhist temple with gilded stupas and sweeping city views. The outdoor Ethnographic Museum displays traditional Buryat wooden yurts. [wikipedia // Google]

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! SUMMARY
=======
Nicholas II or Nikolai II (Russian: Николай II Алекса́ндрович, tr. Nikolai II Aleksandrovich; 18 May [O.S. 6 May] 1868 – 17 July 1918), known as Saint Nicholas the Passion-Bearer in the Russian Orthodox Church, was the last Emperor of Russia, ruling from 1 November 1894 until his forced abdication on 2 March 1917. His reign saw the fall of the Russian Empire from one of the foremost great powers of the world to economic and military collapse. He was given the nickname Nicholas the Bloody or Vile Nicholas by his political adversaries due to the Khodynka Tragedy, anti-Semitic pogroms, Bloody Sunday, the violent suppression of the 1905 Russian Revolution, the execution of political opponents, and his perceived responsibility for the Russo-Japanese War (1904–1905). Soviet historians portrayed Nicholas as a weak and incompetent leader whose decisions led to military defeats and the deaths of millions of his subjects.Russia was defeated in the 1904–1905 Russo-Japanese War which saw the annihilation of the reinforcing Russian Baltic Fleet after being sent on its round-the-world cruise at the naval Battle of Tsushima, off the coasts of Korea and Japan, the loss of Russian influence over Manchuria and Korea, and the Japanese annexation to the north of South Sakhalin Island. The Anglo-Russian Entente was designed to counter the German Empire's attempts to gain influence in the Middle East, but it also ended the Great Game of confrontation between Russia and the United Kingdom. When all Russian diplomatic efforts to prevent the First World War (1914–1918) failed, Nicholas approved the Imperial Russian Army mobilization on 30 July 1914 which gave Imperial Germany formal grounds to declare war on Russia on 1 August 1914. An estimated 3.3 million Russians were killed in the First World War. The Imperial Russian Army's severe losses, the High Command's incompetent management of the war efforts, and lack of food and supplies on the home front were all leading causes of the fall of the House of Romanov.
Following the February Revolution of 1917, Nicholas abdicated on behalf of himself and his son and heir, the Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich. He and his family were imprisoned and transferred to Tobolsk in late summer 1917. On 30 April 1918, Nicholas, Alexandra, and their daughter Maria were handed over to the local Ural Soviet council in Ekaterinburg (renamed Sverdlovsk during the Soviet era); the rest of the captives followed on 23 May. Nicholas and his family were executed by their Bolshevik guards on the night of 16/17 July 1918. The remains of the imperial family were later found, exhumed, identified and re-interred with elaborate State and Church ceremony in St. Petersburg on 17 July 1998 – 80 years later.
In 1981, Nicholas, his wife, and their children were recognized as martyrs by the Russian Orthodox Church Outsid ...

Russia: Sanctions have boosted fishing, Putin told
The head of the Federal Fisheries Agency told President Vladimir Putin that the overall fish catch increased by seven percent during the first half of 2015 in Moscow, on Monday.
Ilya Shestakov said that the main reason on the improving situation was that Russian fishermen witnessed an increase in demand for their fish on the domestic market.

Terrorism in Russia. Act of terrorism in Moscow in 1999.
Explosion of apartment building in Moscow. The nine-story building was destroyed. It killed 94 people inside and injured 249 other people, and damaged 19 nearby buildings. 108 apartments were destroyed.
An official investigation revealed that the acts of terrorism had been conducted by members of Chechen cells led by radical Islamists Shamil Basayev and Ibn al-Khattab.
Russian President Boris Yeltsin ordered to search 30,000 residential buildings in Moscow for explosives. To my regret it’s usual practice in our country when something happens first and only after that they begin to search and check everything.
Russians still remember the tragic events of September 1999 and mourn those who were killed in the explosions. In 2000, a bronze monument was erected on the place of the destroyed block of flats to commemorate the innocent victims of Islamist cruelty.
In 2003, this chapel was built on the place, which was dedicated to the Icon of the Mother of God, Joy of All Who Sorrow. This chapel has become a sacred place where people can pray for all of the victims of terrorism.

Trade unions and political activists marched through Moscow's Red Square on Friday, in celebration of International Labour Day. Activists waved Russian flags and held placards with slogans such as 'May Day' and 'proud country.' According to police estimates, around 120,000 took part in the demonstration.
Shortly after the march, Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to present Hero of Labour awards. The prize is awarded to five Russian citizens considered to be exceptional in their 'contribution to the country's socioeconomic development.'
