→ Who are we?
Hey there! We are Greg and Hillary – a husband and wife team that loves traveling, going on adventures, and helping others do the same! Although we love traveling, at this point in time, we still have full time 9-5 jobs in Dallas, Texas.
In August of 2016, we packed up our things, Greg quit his job, and we moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!
Hillary is working remotely for her CPA firm and Greg is working on this site full time.
We view ourselves as fairly ordinary people, complete with an ordinary income, ordinary jobs, and (unfortunately) an ordinary amount of student loan debt (thanks UNT!).
I know what you are thinking, “Aren’t travel blogs supposed to be written by hippies that don’t have jobs and live in hostels?!” Well don’t you worry, we are working on making that happen! Although we hope to become full time travelers in the next 1-2 years, this site is not necessarily aimed at people that want to travel full time.
Our hope is not that you quit your job and become a long haired, bearded, Volkswagen van driving hippy. Instead, our hope is that after reading our stories you are more inspired to live a more fulfilling life from 5pm-9am!
Why such the emphasis on how ordinary we are? Although we love reading travel blogs, it is easy to feel disconnected from the writers at times. It seems as though they are leading such extraordinary lives that they are somehow doing something that is unreachable to the “average” person.
We are here to prove that wrong. We are here to tell you that even if you work a full-time job and only get two weeks of vacation each year-you still have the power to design an adventurous life for yourself. Afterall, that is exactly where we started before leaving it all behind to live la vida loca!
After having several caffeine induced conversations about how people should travel more and shift their priorities in a way that will lead to a more fulfilling life, we decided to share our stories with you.
Our purpose in creating Kinetic Kennons is to share our stories of travels, adventures, and funny mishaps and to inspire others to design a life full of exploration. Throughout this site you will find posts about how to go on a cheap weekend trip, funny stories such as the time Hillary forgot to update her passport before an international trip, and inspirational rants on why you should lead a more adventurous life!
What To Do In Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico's most popular destinations for snow birds trying to escape the cold back home. In this video I'm sharing some fun activities you can do there, many of which are free. Start by getting a bird's eye view of the old city (centro historico) by climbing up to an old lighthouse that's now a lookout point called Mirador Matamoros. Next check out the Chocolate Museum to learn about the history and culture of chocolate in Mexico, plus make your own to take home. To walk off the sugar high, head to River Cuale Island (Isla Rio Cuale) for some shopping or to grab a bite to eat. Then I suggest joining the Art Walk to learn about Puerto Vallarta's art scene and hear the stories behind its public art. At the end of the day, stroll along the lovely walkway that winds along the water called the Malecón. Try a popular local drink called a Tuba and get a photo with the Puerto Vallarta sign. The Malecón is the perfect place to catch the sunset and end the day.
Huge thank you to the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board and ENroute Communications for inviting us to experience Puerto Vallarta.

De Cantraro Mexican Bar and Grill is Puerto Vallarta’s newest restaurant. Its beautiful design and architecture offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. De Cantraro has been designed around its authentic wood burning parrilla grill. Everything is grilled on this authentic wood burning parrilla grill, which gives an incredible flavor to the food.
De Cantraro uses the best quality beef, chops, and locally sourced seafood from the Bay of Banderas which are grilled to juicy perfection using traditional Mexican parrilla techniques.

What are the Top 10 Things to do in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico? Tips and Ideas of What To Do in PV
So, now that you are planning to head down to México and have decided to make it a memorable trip to the ever more famous beach-side destination, Puerto Vallarta, you should know a bit more of what to do in town and what might be the top things to do here.
The obvious attractions to enjoy the sun, the warm weather, the fun and varied beaches and the lukewarm emerald-green sea, but these are nothing but the appetizer, there are actually plenty of things you can enjoy in town with your family, kids, alone and without even paying a dime.
It depends on what you would like to do and what you love and enjoy, we've made a list of the most obvious sightseeing ideas in this video recording.
There are also excellent restaurants, spectacular tours and activities, fabulous and completely unique beaches, a fun and active nightlife and retail stores and shops around town.
Here's the list of the Top 10 free, or nearly free, sightseeing options in PV, all are kid friendly and great family outings with your children:
- The Malecon, a seaside stroll with fun for everyone (free) 0:05
- The Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, a nice iconic church in downtown Puerto Vallarta, 80 yards from the main square and some 200 yards from the Malecon (free) 0:21
- Los Muertos Beach and the pier, the most popular beach in town, offers non-stop fun, activities and a beautiful stroll after the malecón finishes north of the Cuale River (Free) 0:35
- Cuale River Island and Market, an oasis in the middle of downtown Vallarta, lots to see, colorful market stands, a cultural center, a museum, iguanas and more. (Free) 0:47
- La Cruz Lookout, catch a unique and impressive view of Puerto Vallarta from the top of the La Cruz (The Cross) hill (free) 1:02
- Marina Vallarta, an exclusive area north of the PV Hotel Zone, has its own market, stores, restaurants and a nice lighthouse with a great view. (Free) 1:20
- Mismaloya Beach is south of Puerto Vallarta, a beautiful beach, with lots of history, getting there will require taking a bus, but access is free. 1:35
- Colomitos Beach, a small cozy wonderful beach just south of Boca de Tomatlan, the free option is getting there by land, which requires that you are in decent shape or very patient, another is paying 5 bucks or so and taking a water taxi from Boca. 1:51
- Vallarta Botanical Gardens, a great day trip, beautiful gardens, flowers, jungle, a great river runs through the land. This option is not free, as you need to pay an entrance fee which is very reasonable. 2:09
- Los Arcos, you can see them from the road (which is free), but really enjoying them might require taking a bay cruise, but most are reasonably priced. 2:22
There are many more things to enjoy on Family Trip in Puerto Vallarta, or for adults or active travelers, but those we will include in future videos of Puerto Vallarta on this channel.
Puerto Vallarta Mexico 2019 [Things to Do and Cost of Food!]
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico 2019. For this travel guide, I’ll go over what to eat and see when you visit Puerto Vallarta Mexico. I’ll also give you a cost breakdown of food I bought while in Puerto Vallarta. This is a great destination that mixes modern with historic architecture. When deciding where to go in Mexico? You’re often choosing between Cabo, Cancun, Tulum and Puerto Vallarta if you’re looking for a beach atmosphere.
We choose Puerto Vallarta because provides a lot of things to do without being too touristy. Plus it has great food and affordable prices. My trip to Puerto Vallarta lasted a week and I already can’t wait to go back! I scored my flight from interjet for $207 roundtrip.
Where to stay in Puerto Vallarta?
You’ll want to stay in the El Centra or Zona Romantica areas if you want to be around everything that is walking distance.
We stayed at the Villa Premiere Boutique Hotel. We didn’t get all-inclusive but it is an option.

Visiting El Eden at Mismaloya south of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
El Edén is, without doubt, a spectacular location, full of fun and adventure centered in the waters of the river or above the treetops and valley. Read more:
It is one of the popular natural attractions in Puerto Vallarta, the location is very lush, all green and refreshing. There's a natural pool created by the Mismaloya river, here you can enjoy the cool river water, jumping into it Tarzan-style or sliding down the small waterfalls into the refreshing emerald flowing currents in the pool. Lots of fun, if you dare!
El Eden became famous for being used as the set for many of the shots used for one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's most famous movies, Predator. The movie starts off with the heroes arriving at Boca de Tomatlán beach, the rest of the movie was shot at El Edén, the restaurant that currently is there, the pools and surrounding jungle.
There's not much left of the movie, just an empty shell of a helicopter and a predator sculpture, at times (another kind of predator) a live costumed predator too, that will spare your life if you pay it/him for appearing in your souvenir/selfie photos...
Newer generations will not necessarily remember the movie, some may recognize the Predator from more recent versions, some even including the other lethal ET: Alien, or from video games.
If you remember Predator, don't tell anyone, people will guess you're a dinosaur, as it was shot in 1987 :-).
Another attraction this location offers is the beautiful El Eden Jungle Restaurant and for those that want an adrenaline overdose, there's a great canopy tour with more than 2 miles of zip-lines over the river and through the jungle tree tops.
You can also enjoy learning a bit more about the two local liquors: Tequila and Raicilla, traditions and lots of history are included in these famous and infamous alcoholic beverages.
How to get to El Eden
If you have a 4-wheel drive jeep or a similar vehicle, getting to El Edén is a relatively short trip (10 miles - 16 km), you drive as if you were on your way to Mismaloya, right after the side road that takes you to the entrance of the Barceló Puerto Vallarta Resort, you'll notice a road branching off to the left to El Edén, another to the right (that leads you to Mismaloya Beach and the bridge if you were to drive straight out toward Boca.
Take the left branch, this cobblestone road, that follows the course of the Mismaloya river, takes you into the little town, you'll see signs showing the way to the Zoo, you'll pass the Mamá Lucía Tequila Distillery, continue some 200 yards and the road becomes concrete. You will then arrive to the zoological garden gates (on the left), continue on the right branch. In the next crossroad, take the left branch into the hills and jungle. Continue driving along for 2.5 miles and you'll get to El Eden.
