Dick van Gameren Lectures on Frank Lloyd Wright (Dutch)
Famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed a record number of detached, single-family houses. In this lecture, Dick van Gameren follows the development of Wright's style on the basis of key designs from his extensive portfolio. Using a flip chart to illustrate the details of the houses, van Gameren's talk is also a feast for the eyes. [Dutch spoken]
Dick van Gameren (1962) is a partner at Macanoo Architects and an industrial design professor at T/U Delft. He also leads the Berlage Institute, a postgraduate architecture course. His design for a radically sustainable renovation of a villa in Naarden was awarded the prize for BNA Building of the Year 2012.

Raymond Neutra Lectures on the Neutra VDL Studio
In this installation of the Iconic Houses lecture series, Raymond Neutra, son of modernist architect Richard Neutra (1892-1970) gives a talk at the Van Schijndel Houses in Utrecht. Richard Neutra was an Austrian American architect, an influential modernist architect best known for his work in the Silver Lake District of Los Angeles. A film about Neutra's VDL Research House accompanies the lecture.
The career evolution of Neutra can be best seen in the various modifications and reconstructions of his VDL Research House (sometimes known as the Van der Leeuw House) over the course of four decades. The home was built in 1932, with the support of Dutch businessman Cees van der Leeuw: the 'VDL ' of its name is a tribute to him.
The original compact design of the house in 1932 exemplified Neutra's seminal early work before the 1939 addition of the backyard garden house embodied the new necessity of indoor/outdoor living for the growing family. Then, when the original house was destroyed by fire and rebuilt in the 1960s by Richard and his son Dion, who is also an architect, it became the quintessence of environmental, climate-sensitive design. Hundreds of projects were designed there, launching the careers of many renowned architects. The site became a cultural and political salon, attracting some of the world's most prominent thinkers. Yet today the house is in danger of significant decay.

Iconic Houses • The Melnikov House • Videolecture by Jean-Louis Cohen • Van Schijndel House Utrecht
Lecture by Jean-Louis Cohen, professor architectural history at New York University and Sorbonne Paris.
The world famous architect Konstantin Melnikov (1890-1974) designed his utopian house, an icon of modern architecture in the center of Moscow in the late 20s. From the moment that Joseph Stalin forbid modern architecture in the Soviet Union, Melnikov was denied the right to work as an architect and placed under house arrest. This lecture tells the amazing story of the Melnikov House and the fate of an architect living as in a prison in his utopian home.
Following to the film we recommend to watch the documentary 'The Melnikov House - a Moscow Utopia' directed by Rax Rinnekangas of Bad Taste Limited; (2007, 58 min.). Watch the trailer here (youtube.com/watch?v=NQQyuNBBst4).
