Chinatown,Vancouver 溫哥華華埠 CANADA
チャイナタウン バンクーバー
Chinatown in Vancouver, British Columbia is Canada's largest Chinatown. Centred on Pender Street, it is surrounded by Gastown and the Downtown Financial and Central Business Districts to the west, the Downtown Eastside to the north, the remnant of old Japantown to the northeast, and the residential neighbourhood of Strathcona to the east.
Chinatown remains a popular tourist attraction, and is one of the largest historic Chinatowns in North America. However, it went into decline as newer members of Vancouver's Cantonese Chinese community dispersed to other areas of the metropolis.
Due to the large ethnic Chinese presence in Vancouver—especially represented by multi-generation Chinese Canadians and first-generation immigrants from Hong Kong—the city has been referred to as Hongcouver (a term considered derogatory by some Chinese).
The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is the first full-size Chinese or scholars garden built outside of China, and is located in Chinatown in Vancouver. The garden was built in 1985-1986.
Because the climate in Vancouver is similar to that of Suzhou, many of the same plant varieties are found in the garden as in its Suzhou counterparts.
Classical Chinese gardens employ philosophical principles of Feng Shui and Taoism, striving to achieve harmony and a balance of opposites.
Exploring Chinatown | Vancouver | Episode 4
Vancouver’s Chinatown is known to be one of the cleanest and largest in all of North America and in this episode we decided to explore as much of it as we could. Strolling along one of the main roads in Chinatown, Pender Street, we happened upon a few tea shops and typical housewares type shops you’d expect to find in every Chinatown. We also found New Town Bakery & Restaurant which blew us away with their quality baked goods and selection of freshly steamed buns. We picked up a few things to try but made mental notes to return for a proper sit down meal.
Exactly one week after our first meal in Vancouver at Pokerrito, we found ourselves craving their delicious poke after we finished our last workday of our first week. After our late poke lunch we wandered over to Cartems Donuts to sample one of their peculiar, yet delicious donuts flavours.
Come along and discover some of Vancouver Chinatown’s nooks and crannies.

Chinatown changing in Vancouver
CGTN is launching a series that looks at Chinatowns around the world. Many cities developed Chinese migrant communities that remain strong to this day. In Vancouver it's estimated that forty-three percent of metro area residents have Asian roots. The city is home to a vibrant Chinatown, although the area continues to face challenges. CGTN's Dan Williams reports.

In Close: Vancouver’s Vanishing Chinatown
Vancouver’s Chinatown flourished against the odds to become a booming cultural center. Recently, as longtime residents have seen gentrification take a toll on the cultural richness and history of the area, new strides are being made to preserve the area’s history and culture.

Vancouver's Dark Side - lost souls on East Hastings & entering Chinatown (4k walking tour)
My walk around East Hastings street Vancouver 4k video, where we see the dark side of Vancouver- the side that the city doesn't want to promote to the tourists. Although it's only a couple blocks away from Gastown (big tourist attraction) It's an area of Vancouver that is infamous for it's homeless situation and also for the serious drug problems. Vancouver has had an issue in this area for the longest time. Safe injection sites have been open in the general East Hastings area of Vancouver so people do have the ability to be in the presence of medical professionals if they so choose.
In this video, we walk a stretch of East Hastings from Abbot street, but we also enter into the Chinatown area and walk through there as well. It's eerily quiet as most businesses were closed, and at some times it felt like walking in a ghost town.

Congee Noodle Delight
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
A Hong Kong style restaurant serving delightful congee, noodles as well as some classic items in Cantonese cuisine. I LOVED the congee and the dumplings the most. Sweet and sour pork was also great - lightly battered and packs a ton of crispiness.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Gastown
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The oldest neighbourhood in Vancouver, Gastown is known for their Whistling Steam Clock and it's worth waiting around for as there's a little steam performance on the hour! I LOVED IT. SO CUTE. There are also a ton of boutiques, souvenir shops, coffee shops and restaurants/pubs dotted around the neighbourhood. Very pretty spot!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Jade Dynasty
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I really wanted to travel out to Richmond but alas, my tummy couldn't wait so I popped into here for dim sum. Reasonably priced food though feel like there are better spots in the city!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Infini Tea
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Love me a punny name. A ton of different types of teas and juices to pick from. I went for the White Peach Oolong - could taste the fruitiness but lacked a strong tea flavour. Cute little spot to shield from the cold though!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Phnom Penh
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
This place DESERVES ALL OF THE HYPE AND AWARDS. Absolutely phenomenal meal and so very reasonably priced! Go for the raw butter beef, fried chicken wings, beef pho, stir-fried pea tips and the beef fillet rice! Basically every single thing I ordered. Wish this was in London so I can go alllllll the time!!!

Chinatown Dim Sum in Vancouver
We are in Vancouver Chinatown on this beautiful day. Ironically, Dim Sum restaurants are far and few between in Chinatown. However, we'll take you to one of the largest dim sum restaurants in Chinatown. We're going to have lots of food, lots of tea, and lots of desserts!
Floata Seafood Restaurant has been around for many many many years! We're going to try their early morning dim sum. It's 8am and we're getting a little hungry.
There's a reason why we're here early, and that's because of the 20% discount! Dim Sum dishes are small dishes and they range around $3.95 - $7.95 and with the additional 20% for morning dim sum (from from (8am - 11am), this is incredible value.
Their website and locations details are:
•
• 180 Keefer St, Vancouver, BC
I'm glad for you to join us and thank you for watching. If you're visiting or a local exploring, give this place a try. Nothing fancy, just traditional satisfying dim sum with good value.
Happy Dining!
