Vankleek Hill Home For Sale - 6431 County Rd 10 - The Pilon Group
Welcome to 6431 County Road 10. This 4 bedroom home is located just outside the town of Vankleek Hill, a perfect place to call home for families who commute in opposite directions towards Ottawa and Montreal. Vankleek Hill has a small town feel, but with a great deal to offer in the way of museums, galleries, vineyards and the famous Beau’s All Natural Brewery with its award-winning beer. If you are a cycling or nature enthusiast, the extensive Prescott-Russell Trail runs through this town.
This custom home offers a fabulous country lifestyle. Nestled on over an acre lot, amongst mature trees, with plenty of curb appeal provided by the classic Canadiana architecture with cozy verandah and dormer windows, you can instantly feel your stress melt away when you drive up the laneway. The verandah on both the front and back of the home is ideal for enjoying a quiet morning coffee or afternoon drink in the shade.
The main level of this home features an entertainment sized living room along with a den, open concept kitchen, overlooking the generous dining room / sitting area. A main floor laundry room is conveniently located on this level.
Hardwood stairs leads you to the second floor of the home, where you will find four generous sized bedrooms, along with both a main bathroom and ensuite. The master suite can best be described as a retreat. This huge space enjoys abundant natural light and panoramic views of the property, thanks to both well placed windows and a wonderful balcony to enjoy any time of the day. Hardwood flooring sprawls throughout the second floor, making it entirely carpet-free. Don’t overlook the door that leads to the second floor verandah, offering more spectacular views of nature and lots of privacy.
The exterior is a nature-lover’s paradise. A creek and bog surround a portion of the property, adding a variety of wildlife like deer and wild turkeys to admire. Walking around the property, you can find wild asparagus and berries. You’ll want to find a great recipe for apple pie, with all the apples that grow on the apple trees. Enjoy the health benefits of planting your own vegetable garden each year. A fully-fenced in ground pool is yours to enjoy on hot summer days. The outdoor shower is perfectly hidden at the back of the home for your enjoyment.
An attached garage complements the architectural style of the home and easily accommodates your vehicle(s) and a full workshop. Other out buildings include a shed and a wood shed.
In addition to the home itself, the following items have been lovingly replaced and/or updated in very recent years: - New shingles (3-4 years old) - Newer surface well (original well is still functioning and acts as an additional source of water for gardening and lawn maintenance) - Outdoor shower - Wood shed - All exterior doors - All windows in the front of home - Windows in basement - In ground pool liner - Ceramic floor in dining room - Hardwood flooring throughout 2nd floor of home - Barn door in master bedroom, white cedar wood accents and wood beams - Electrical box updated

The Higginson Observation Tower - Vankleek Hill, Ontario
The Higginson Observation Tower, located in the village of Vankleek Hill, is an outstanding symbol of the evolution of 19th century teaching, learning and civic duty in Eastern Ontario.
The Higginson Tower can be seen as you approach the village of Vankleek Hill from the north, on the hill close to St. John the Apostle Anglican Church. You can also see the tower and its flag as you approach the town's only traffic light - at Highway 34 and Main Street - from the south.
The base of the tower was built in 1832 by Lieutenant Thomas Higginson, to house a wind-powered grist mill. Later, when the grist mill fell into disuse, William Higginson, son of Thomas, added the upper portion to create an observatory.
In 1866 in answer to a government call to defend against the Fenian Raid, the Prescott Militia mustered at Lieutenant-Colonel Higginson's in Vankleek Hill on March 9, 1866 to proceed to Cornwall. It is suggested that the Higginson Observation Tower carried out a defensive role during the Fenian Raids as it later carried the term of look-out tower.
For the summer season the Higginson Tower is usually open starting in early May, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days per week.
Tour groups are welcome! Enjoy bilingual interpretive program, displays of artefacts found during an archaeological investigation which took place prior to restoration. Listen to history as you climb the steps inside the tower to the top! Have a picnic on site, or visit nearby Arbor Gallery just a few steps away, located inside the original home of William Higginson, the son of Thomas Higginson, who built the stone portion of tower.
The tower is open off-season by special appointment to groups of 10 or more. Please call 613-678-3327 to make tour arrangements, or e-mail Louise at review@thereview.ca.
Visit the tower's online scrapbook to see photos documenting the progress of the restoration work done to the tower.
