STORYLINE
America's last 'travelling freak-show' has reached the end of the road. The World of Wonders - a traditional side show that includes a fire-eating midget and a man who sticks nails in his head - is to close. It marks the end of an era of American folk art. In this age of digital hi-tech, the internet, and political correctness, it would seem there is no room for the freak show any more on America's fairgrounds.

STORYLINE:
Customs agents in Peru recovered more than four-hundred and forty one fossilised shark teeth on Friday, that are believed to be more than 20 (m) million years old.
According to the National Cultural Institute (INC), the fossils were going to be shipped illegally to the United States and Spain.
The INC's recovery department head Javier Vasquez told the Associated Press one of the confiscated packages contained nearly 300 fossilised pieces.
Peru has many fossil reserves, for this reason, the theft and smuggling of fossils has increased. In 2006, we registered 461 fossil confiscations. This year alone, we have registered nearly 947, Vasquez said.
Although officials do not know where the fossils were taken from, they believe they are from the Piura, Loreto and Arequipa regions.
Among the recovered fossils, archaeologists found teeth fossils of the Megalodon (giant shark) that lived more than 20 (m) million years ago.
The recovered fossils are currently being kept in the Geological Institute of Mines and Metallurgy.
Peru is the third largest producer of ancient fossils in the world. Archaeologists said the government is looking to issue sanctions to punish illegal exporters.

USA: CHICAGO MUSEUM PAYS $8.4 MILLION FOR TYRANNOSAURUS REX
English/Nat
A Chicago museum has paid nearly U-S 8 point 4 (m) million dollars for a dinosaur skeleton - the most complete Tyrannosaurus rex ever recovered.
Bidding at Sotheby's auction house in New York on Saturday was brisk for the controversial sale.
The fifty foot long skeleton created a sensation when it arrived in New York last October, packed in 130 crates and boxes.
The T-rex - nicknamed Sue - is in exceptional condition - despite being millions of years old.
She was discovered in 1990 on a Cheyenne Reservation ranch in South Dakota.
The skeleton includes a tooth fragment from a rival T-rex embedded in a rib, and a gouge on the side of her skull, a wound that may have caused her death.
She'd also suffered a broken leg.
Sotheby's expected the dinosaur to sell for around a million dollars - in the event the auction exceeded expectations.
Bids were phoned in from around the world and it was over in minutes.
The Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago had outlasted all.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
'This morning I have the pleasure of having been awarded custody of Sue the world's largest and probably oldest young lady. She will spend her next birthday, that is her 70th millionth in her new home on the shores of Lake Michigan. That is, of course, in Chicago at the renown Field Museum of Natural History.
SUPER CAPTION: Richard Gray, President Art Dealer's Association of America
Among the donors who helped buy the dinosaur remains are McDonald's and Walt Disney World Resorts.
Both companies will get replicas of the original - one will be displayed in Florida, another will tour the U-S.

Walking on the Beach at Gasparilla Island Lights - Boca Grande, FL
Port Boca Grande Light was first lit on December 31, 1890. It is a two-story frame dwelling raised on iron screw-piles, with the lantern placed in a cupola at the peak of the roof. The keeper lived in the lighthouse. A similar house (without a lantern) built next to it was the assistant keeper's dwelling.
The Port Boca Grande Light originally served ships transporting cattle from ports on Charlotte Harbor to Cuba. Phosphate ore from the Peace River area became an important cargo in the 1890s, and the construction of the Charlotte Harbor and Northern Railway to Port Boca Grande in 1909 resulted in increased traffic. Ship traffic to Port Boca Grande peaked at more than 30 ships a day during World War II, when Port Boca Grande served as a safe harbor for shipping in the Gulf.

Gasparilla Island Rear Range Light, U.S. Coast Guard Archive
The Gasparilla Island Light was deactivated in 1966, and abandoned by the Coast Guard in 1969. The buildings quickly deteriorated, and by 1970 beach erosion had exposed the screw-piles supporting the building, with waves breaking under the building at high tide. Two rock groins were built to protect the lighthouse, and sand was pumped in to build up the beach. Lee County took title of the lighthouse in 1972. On February 28, 1980, the lighthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Restoration work began in 1985, and in 1986 the light was recommissioned.
In 1988 the building and surrounding property were turned over to the State of Florida and became Gasparilla Island State Park. In 1999 the Historic Port Boca Grande Lighthouse and Museum opened to the public.
The light is considered an Aid to Navigation and the lamp room is maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg Aids to Navigation Team.

The public is once again getting a close view of scientists uncovering fossils from liquid asphalt pools in the heart of Los Angeles.
Officials at the La Brea Tar Pits are reopening a shuttered exhibition hall and restarting an excavation site, allowing visitors to look on as workers recover the bones of specimens like saber-tooths and mammoths.
The expanded offerings at the George C. Page Museum, which oversees the tar pits and fossil collection, are part of a free tour that aims to make paleontology accessible to visitors.
It's the only place in the world where you can see ongoing excavation in the middle of a city, said the museum's chief curator, John Harris, adding that the new tour is extremely important. These fossils are a wonderful resource for telling us about the climate change in the past.
To immerse visitors in the digging that's unearthed the world's richest trove of Ice Age fossils _ about 5.5 million bones from 600 species _ the tour will bring visitors to a tar pit named Pit 91.
At Pit 91, a wall of glass separates working scientists from ogling visitors - a popular attraction since the 1960s.
The site was closed in 2008 when the museum devoted its small staff to sifting through a trove of fossils found while digging for an underground garage at the adjacent Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Scientists are still recovering specimens from the garage, but Harris said Pit 91's unrivalled vantage point warranted a reopening.
In Pit 91, you can look down and see [excavators] in action, Harris said.
Inside the Observation Pit, guests will see fossils as they appear in the ground. The circular brick building was the main exhibition hall near the asphalt pools until the Page Museum opened in the late 1970s. For the last two decades, it has remained mostly closed.

Kugel and Frijoles: Latino Jews in the United States
How do Latino Jews identify? Can they choose their identity or is it assigned to them? What is it like to be both Latino and Jewish in the United States? On September 17, 2019, author Laura Limonic joined with Eric Lach of The New Yorker in conversation about her fascinating book.
Laura Limonic analyzes the changing construction of race and ethnicity in the United States through the lens of contemporary Jewish immigrants from Latin America. Not easily classifiable in U.S. society, Latino Jews challenge racial and ethnic categories on many levels. Limonic introduces the stories of Latino Jewish immigrants offering new insight with which to understand the diversity of Latinos, the incorporation of contemporary Jewish immigrants, and the effect of ethnicity and race on immigrant assimilation in the United States.

[SOT/Tony Doblin, Exhibition Executive Producer]
I am Tony Doblin, executive producer of `Diana, the People''s Princess''
`Diana, the People''s Princess'' is an exhibition about the life of Princess Diana. It tells the story from childhood to her unfortunate death, through her clothing. And tells a story about how Diana was a real person.
We do have five dresses here … This is the Travolta dress, one of the most famous, where she danced with John Travolta at the White House.
The dresses are owned by Maureen Dunkel. Maureen bought them eight weeks prior to Diana''s death, as an investment in textiles. Having no idea that eight weeks later her life would change forever. And she has toured this exhibition for years, with the hopes of sharing with the rest of the world the story of Princess Diana.
A very unusual opportunity for this particular show, the Southern Women''s Show, actually allowing people to take, we will take a photo of you right next to this dress. So it''s never been done before.
it''s amazing the variety of emotions that people feel. I think everyone can remember the day that Diana got married. The world watched that, as well as the world watched her funeral. And people come in here, they have a wide range of emotions. They are excited to see her dresses, ''cause they''re absolutely stunning. I mean, every one is handmade for a princess. Every bead is hand-stitched. So the dresses are amazing. The story is amazing.
So people are excited to see that. Yet, they''re emotional because they know that her life was cut very short, unfortunately. And they had a bond with her. Because she was a real person. She was just like you and I. She was flawed like you and I )like we all are. But she was still a princess.

HARRY COOPER: THE 4TH REICH & AUTHOR OF HITLER IN ARGENTINA STILL ALIVE AFTER WWII
I will be interviewing Harry Cooper on Friday December 1st at 1pm PT.
Harry Cooper served for 4 years in the U.S. Air Force and 12 years Coast Guard (Aux.) and was a Flotilla Commander.
He has written 21 books and we talk about his bestselling book HITLER IN ARGENTINA with documented evidence that Hitler was still alive long after WWII.
Short bio written by Harry Cooper:
I am the world's foremost expert on the history of the German U-Boats and now also on the escape of Adolf Hitler. Unlike other researcher/writers who read a few documents and other people's books to produce their own book, which are almost always just their theories without proof or substance - I read the documents then I go where the history was made. I go to Germany and Austria on average two times each year since 1988 and have been to South America nine times in the past eight years where I take photos of these historic places and interview people who were there and give me first-hand information. I have just been contacted by a major television production company in Buenos Aires who will fly me down there to do a documentary on the tragic loss of the submarine ARA SAN JUAN and I have another fact-finding expedition scheduled in March 2018 to Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay. We are peeling back the layers like onion skin - peel back one layer and another is there with questions waiting to be answered.
Our biggest advantage lies in the fact that we have several thousand Members in 77 countries and many are active or retired Intel people. They are my eyes and ears in various locations to lay the groundwork and take me to the people who have the first-hand history.
For more info go to then to PREVIOUS TOURS. There are thousands of photos and explanations of this research.

Out of the Box: Paint, Pray, Love
Known for her paintings of erotic female nudes, Lene Schneider-Kainer divorced her husband in 1926 and set off on an artistic odyssey across Asia. Retracing Marco Polo’s journey, the intrepid artist travelled from opium dens in Isfahan to Buddhist temples in the Himalayas and from brothels in Agra to the Peking Opera.
When she died, Schneider-Kainer left her travel diary, photographs, scrapbooks, and over 100 watercolors and sketches to the Leo Baeck Institute. On September 19, 2019 at the Center for Jewish History, Archivist Michael Simonson took these rarely seen treasures Out of the Box and revealed the enchanting art and surprising story of a German-Jewish artist who defied the male art world and broke the boundaries set for women in her time.
About the Series:
