[4K] Edinburgh, Scotland (2019) Evening Walking tour of City Centre
If you're wondering what Edinburgh nightlife is like, then join us for this virtual city evening walk in Scotland's capital city.
We start our 4K walk on Waverley Bridge, just next to the Edinburgh Waverley railway station. We cross into Cockburn Street, a great street to visit for some of the best Edinburgh restaurants, bars and independent shops, including every Harry Potter fan's favourite, Museum Context, with it's film and book related items.
We emerge out onto the High Street that forms part of the Royal Mile. We loop around South Bridge and Blair Street to take in the restaurants of Hunter Square before rejoining our walk along the Royal Mile.
Passing the Adam Smith Monument and the Mercat Cross, we walk around Parliament Square behind St Gile's Cathedral before rejoining the High Street and Lawnmarket.
In front of the Hub (a grand Victorian spired building,) we turn down Upper Bow to join Victoria Street, which in turn leads us to the bustling Grassmarket - lined with more busy Edinburgh pubs and bars.
We end our walk with a drink in the Fiddler's Arms on King's Stables Road.

Our visit Edinburgh travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (best restaurants and street food), top museums and the city by day. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities you won't find in a typical Edinburgh tourism brochure or Edinburgh, Scotland city tour.
20 Things to do in Edinburgh, Scotland Top Attractions Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Our week in Edinburgh was action packed! We sampled gin and Scotch whisky, wandered down tiny closes, braved the crowds along the Royal Mile, ate our fill of haggis, and even visited a castle, a palace, and an abbey. So, if you’re looking for things to do in Edinburgh on your visit, this video guide will show you all of those attractions and then some!
Edinburgh Castle is hard to miss as it dominates the city’s skyline. The first thing you should know about the Castle is that it’s not just one single building, so once you’re inside there’s quite a bit to see and do; you can tour the Royal Palace, see the Crown Jewels, watch the firing of the one o’clock gun, step inside St. Margaret’s Chapel, visit the National War Museum and so much more, so give yourself plenty of time.
We also made time to visit the famed Royal Mile, which is the busiest street in Edinburgh’s Old Town. There’s quite a bit to see along here, so we first popped into the Royal Mile Market, which is set inside a former church, and from there we continued down the street, visiting little souvenir shops along the way. You’ll have no trouble finding a kilt here!
Another activity we really enjoyed was taking a food tour with Eat Walk Edinburgh. We got to try a lot of delicious bites and beverages along the way, and one of the highlights was visiting the Fugde House.
Another fun way to explore Edinburgh on foot is by wandering down the tiny closes. These small alleys were often named after a memorable occupant, and the Old Town is full of them.
And that’s it for our visit to Edinburgh, Scotland. We hope you enjoyed following our travels and that this video gave you a few ideas of things to do, foods to try, and places to visit around the city. As always, if you have any other suggestions of things to do in Edinburgh, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments section below. Until next time!
This is part of our Travel in Scotland video series showcasing Scottish food, Scottish culture and Scottish cuisine.

With a seriously large amount of travel coming up to some dense urban metropolises such as LA, New York, Toronto and Tokyo; we realised our window of opportunity to visit Scotland was very slim before the days get colder and darker.
Embarrassingly, neither Elly or I had ever been to Scotland. Yet we've been all the way around the other side of the world to the far reaches of New Zealand... We wanted to change that and make the quick hop up from London to experience some of the best nature the UK has to offer.
Our 2-day road trip consisted of a loop from Edinburgh into the Highlands via Loch Lomond, to Loch Ness, Glenfinnan and the Isle of Skye, before journeying back towards Edinburgh. I wanted to make a travel vlog similar to how this channel used to look a couple of years ago, featuring more about the journey and our overall experience rather than a segment of a particular photography day. I really enjoyed making it and look forward to part 2 coming in the next few days!
P.S. A note on the drone footage quality: After reviewing the footage from this trip, I noticed a lot of the watercolour effect happening. I've since adjusted from -1 sharpening to +1 sharpening on my Mavic Pro in an attempt to disable to noise reduction algorithm causing the bad quality picture. Hopefully it's all good for the next time I use my drone!

Scotland's Highlands
Check your local public television station for this Rick Steves’ Europe episode or watch it on The Highlands stoke kilted dreams of Scotland…where legends of Bonnie Prince Charlie swirl around lonely castles. We visit the Weeping Glen of Glencoe, bustling Inverness, and the battlefield at Culloden. Then we'll make a pilgrimage to the spiritual capital of a major clan, and go prehistoric at Stone Age burial grounds and Iron Age island forts. Venturing along the Caledonian Canal and watching for Nessie at Loch Ness, we work up an appetite for modern Scottish cuisine and enjoy traditional folk music.

Places to see in ( Edinburgh - UK ) Edinburgh Old Town
Places to see in ( Edinburgh - UK ) Edinburgh Old Town
Edinburgh Old Town is the name popularly given to the oldest part of Scotland's capital city of Edinburgh. Edinburgh Old Town has preserved much of its medieval street plan and many Reformation-era buildings. Together with the 18th-century New Town, Edinburgh Old Town forms part of a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Royal Mile is a name coined in the early 20th century for the main artery of the Old Town which runs on a downwards slope from Edinburgh Castle to both Holyrood Palace and the ruined Holyrood Abbey. Narrow closes (alleyways), often no more than a few feet wide, lead steeply downhill to both north and south of the main spine which runs west to east.
Notable buildings in the Old Town include St. Giles' Cathedral, the General Assembly Hall of the Church of Scotland, the National Museum of Scotland, the Old College of the University of Edinburgh and the Scottish Parliament Building. The area has a number of underground vaults and hidden passages that are relics of previous phases of construction. No part of the street is officially called The Royal Mile in terms of legal addresses. The actual street names (running west to east) are Castlehill, Lawnmarket, High Street, Canongate and Abbey Strand.
In addition to the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Old Town may be divided into various areas, namely from west to east:
West Port, the old route out of Edinburgh to the west
Grassmarket, the area to the south-west
Edinburgh Castle
The Cowgate, the lower southern section of the town
Canongate, a name correctly applied to the whole eastern district
Holyrood, the area containing Holyrood Palace and Holyrood Abbey
Croft-An-Righ, a group of buildings north-east of Holyrood
Due to the space restrictions imposed by the narrowness of the tail, and the advantages of living within the defensive wall, the Old Town became home to some of the world's earliest high rise residential buildings. Multi-storey dwellings became the norm from the 16th century onwards. Many of these buildings were destroyed in the Great Fire of Edinburgh (1824); the rebuilding of these on the original foundations led to changes in the ground level and the creation of many passages and vaults under the Old Town. The construction of new streets including North Bridge and South Bridge in the 18th century also created underground spaces, such as the Edinburgh Vaults below the latter.
Traditionally buildings were less dense in the eastern, Canongate, section. This area underwent major slum clearance and reconstruction in the 1950s, thereafter becoming an area largely of Council housing. Further Council housing was built on the southern fringe of the Canongate in the 1960s and 1970s in an area generally called Dumbiedykes. From 1990 to 2010 major new housing schemes appeared throughout the Canongate. These were built to a much higher scale than the traditional buildings and have greatly increased the population of the area.
