Assistance to remote communities during Operation Bushfire Assist
Three of our No. 35 Squadron C-27J Spartans helped evacuate people from Mallacoota, Victoria to RAAF Base East Sale. #YourADF has been moving supplies and evacuees by rotary and fixed-wing aircraft. Flights will continue until all who wish to evacuate have been transported to East Sale.
Other support activities underway include:
➡️ No. 44 Wing Air Traffic Controllers are providing a flight information service at the airport in Bairnsdale, Victoria. This will help local authorities manage the high volume of air traffic currently using the airport.
➡️ A P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft conducted route reconnaissance from Sale to Mallacoota to assess engineering requirements. It will continue reconnaissance of fire grounds, operating from RAAF Base Edinburgh in South Australia.
➡️ Role One Medical Facilities are being established at RAAF Base East Sale and Holsworthy Barracks to provide first aid, immediate lifesaving measures, and triage.
➡️ ADF bases throughout affected regions from Brisbane to Adelaide are providing temporary accommodation to those displaced by the fires.
