MEKONG DELTA VIETNAM - Saigon Day Trip
We experienced local life along the Mekong Delta Vietnam for our last day in Saigon. We show you the best Saigon day trip that Vietnam has to offer, traveling by boat down the Mekong Delta and exploring a local Vietnam village along the way.
Our trip to the Mekong Delta Vietnam started with a 2 hour luxury van ride to a town called My Tho. Although we don’t normally take public tours, we arranged a small 6 person group tour with Vietnam Adventure Tours. Once we arrived in My Tho, we boarded a private boat to set sail down the Mekong Delta River. The 15 minute boat ride took us across the Mekong river to unicorn island where we explored a tourist area set up to mimic a traditional Vietnam Village. The activities on this island include: Bee Farm and Honey Tasting, Snake Holding, Coconut Candy Production, Chocolate Production, Snake Wine, and a Fruit Farm with traditional Mekong Delta music.
Next we got back on the Vietnam boat tour down the Mekong Delta to visit the area of Ben Tre. This is where we got to see a side of a more authentic Vietnam by boating down the river in a small sampan boat. This is one of the best things to do in Vietnam because you get to experience a world away from all development. We wish this part of the Mekong river tour was longer, as the small sampan boat ride was only 15 minutes long.
Next up on the Mekong Delta Tour was lunch which was included in our tour and very delicious. We were served a variety of Vietnamese food including fish, spring rolls, soup, rice, morning glory and prawns. The Vietnamese lunch was absolutely delicious!
When visiting Saigon Vietnam, we highly recommend you put a Mekong Delta Tour on your list of must do activities. Out of all the things to do in Saigon, this was one of our favorites! A quick 2 hour Saigon day trip away seems like a completely separate world apart from the hustle of Ho Chi Minh City.
If you’re interested in booking one of the best tours in Saigon, contact Vietnam Adventure Tours and request Van as your tour guide! The tour you see is the VIP Mekong Delta Tour with a luxury 7 person limo. Most Mekong tours start from $15 USD and go up to $80 USD for a public tour, and private tours are $80 USD per person and up. We hope you enjoyed our trip down the Vietnam Mekong Delta and if you have any questions please leave us a comment! We’d love to hear about your Vietnam travel or plans to visit the area.

Halong Bay Luxury Cruise | Signature Cruise
This Halong Bay Luxury Cruise was made possible by:
If you’ve never been to Halong Bay, you need to add taking a luxury cruise through Halong Bay to your bucket list! Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for a good reason. It is one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen! It’s filled with giant lime stone karsts that jut out of the water in every direction for miles.
The best way to experience the bay is by a luxury cruise. There are tons of cruise ship operators offering cruises through Halong Bay. The cruises range from cheap backpack boats to five start luxury cruise ships. Since visiting Halong Bay is most likely a once in a lifetime experience, we decided to splurge on a 5 star luxury cruise to ensure that we had the best experience possible!
We booked our cruise with Signature Cruise and we were elated with our experience. Seriously, we don’t have a bad thing to say about Signature Cruises, and that should mean a lot coming from me because when I splurge on an experience I am very critical. Also, the staff treated us like royalty! They made our experience even better.
Our luxurious cruise through Halong Bay started with an amazing lunch served while we were cruising to a floating fishing village. After arriving at the floating village we were rowed around the village in a row boat by one of the women who lived in the floating village. After our row boat ride was completed, we visited a pearl farm to learn how pearls are made. To be completely honest, this sounded kind of lame to me when I read it on the itinerary, but it was actually really interesting!
After leaving the pearl farm, we were taken back to the cruise ship. After an hour or so of relaxing and taking in the beautiful views of Halong Bay, we had a cooking class where we learned to make fresh spring rolls. After the cooking class we enjoyed happy hour with more beautiful views. After happy hour, a delicious five course dinner was served aboard the boat. After dinner I had the opportunity to try my hand at squid fishing. I got really lucky and managed to catch 10!

Trip to Mekong Delta from Hanoi, Experience Mekong Once-in-a-Life-Time
Luxury Travel Vietnam to Launch Package: Experience Mekong Once-in-a-Life-Time
The Mekong Delta is a fascinating destination with an incredible history, diverse cultures, stunning scenery and rich heritage.
The Mekong River runs through China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, and is the longest river in the southeastern Asia region. Deep in history and rich in culture, it's one of the last travel frontiers with stunning natural beauty and incredible cultural diversity.
Three days on the complex maze of the Mekong Delta is hardly enough for some people, but this tour gives you a brief insight into life on the mighty Mekong River and its tributaries.
Travelers set off at 7 am for a drive through the Mekong Delta on day one. Upon arrival at Cai Be, embark the Cai Be Princess sampan to cruise around Cai Be Floating Market to see local people being selling, buying, and exchanging goods from their boats. Visit of some local home factories such as rice paste making, rice pop corn, coco candies, and longans drying processing. The trip continues along the Mekong canals to Dong Hoa Hiep Island located between Vinh Long and Cai Be. Lunch awaits at Le Longanier restaurant at La Residence de Phu An resort, a superb Indochine style resort. Drive to Can Tho city. Overnight in Can Tho.
On day two, travelers cruise along the small and picturesque tributaries by row boat, they will see the unique Cai Rang - Phong Dien floating market. They will take in the beautiful scenery and the daily life in Mekong River and they will roam through the village to visit a rice husking mill and a rice noodles making shop. Travelers now travel by land to Chau Doc, on the way you will pass Thot Not to visit Bang Lang Bird Sanctuary (Stork Garden) or Crocodile Farm. They continue their journey to Chau Doc, close to the Cambodian border. While here, they head up Sam Mountain for a birds-eye view over the rice paddy fields toward Cambodia. Overnight in Chau Doc.
On day three, rise early to the sounds of the Delta coming to life for another day. A boat trip to visit the floating fish breeding farms reveals the amazing highlight of Chau Doc, a Cham minority village, who still gain employment from traditional weaving. The last stop in Chau Doc is to a local Islamic Mosque. Travelers have lunch at local restaurant before going back to Ho Chi Minh City.
Travelers will be taken along the vast network of canals and tributaries to see how people go about their daily lives. Gliding on the busy waterways they have the opportunity to interact with the local people at the floating markets, eat tropical fruits in lush orchards, look into the art of Bonsai and sip tea on a typical boathouse.
This 3-day tour departs on a daily basis and can be tailor made to fit your time constraints or special needs. The per-person double rate is from $408 per person for the private party of two people for land costs that include accommodation, nearly all meals, boat trip, transfers, visa fees, tips, entrance fees and personalized service with an English speaking guide along the trip from Ho Chi Minh City. The tour prices expire on 31 September 2012.

1. Castaway Island, Ha Long Bay - Looking for a memorable weekend while visiting Vietnam? Then signing up for a few days on a private island owned by a party hostel in Hanoi is the way to go!
They pack anywhere between 50 and 100 excited backpackers onto junk boats, cruise around beautiful Ha Long bay. You then spend a few days on a deserted island relaxing on the beach, playing drinking games, rock climbing, kayaking and whatever else takes your fancy.
2. A visit to Hanoi is a must for any visit to Vietnam. The country’s capital city is chaotic, crazy and downright wonderful with its non-stop motorbike traffic and seemingly endless selection of street food and pho (Vietnamese soup) shops. A visitor could easily spend all day and night eating, but there’s so much more to do in Hanoi.
The best way to start a Hanoi visit is to explore the city’s Old Quarter and then check out sites like the Temple of Literature, Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and the Hanoi Hilton. Remember to stroll around the Hoan Kiem Lake located near the Old Quarter. The lake is best at night when hordes of locals come out to socialize and eat ice cream cones before and after the sun sets.
3. Phu Quoc Island - While many travellers leave Saigon for the Northern parts of Vietnam to Hanoi and Halong Bay, locals flock to the largest island in Vietnam, Phu Quoc. Phu Quoc is a quick 40 minute flight from of Ho Chi Minh City, and it’s the perfect way to experience Vietnam without being inundated with other tourists.
Phu Quoc boasts a number of activities unique to the island that have remained authentic. The local pepper farms and honey bee farms are some of the “touristy excursions”, but with the lack of western travellers, they don’t feel touristy at all and have remained authentic. Even island hopping and snorkelling day-trips include fishing and interacting with the locals on the boat.
For travellers looking to get off the beaten track and experience the local culture, head to Duong Dong Market. This local market is bustling! It will give you a taste for the local culture and you definitely won’t see other tourists!
4. Ninh Binh is the perfect place, to kick start a 2 week adventure around Vietnam and Cambodia, and at the same time enjoy the natural untouched beauty of Vietnam.
Located around 95 km from Hanoi, it takes around two hours to reach Ninh Binh. The Open Bus Ticket is the best way to travel to Ninh Binh, alternatively, one can even take a day tour with any of the numerous travel agencies scattered all around Hanoi.
5. Dambri Waterfall Resort - Inside this massive park you’ll find the 70 metre Dambri waterfall. This high stream of water comes crashing at an unbelievable speed and makes for quite an incredible sight. While the view is impressive from the top, getting down there might make you realise just how big Dambri is. If you are driving through Vietnam then spend the night in Bao Loc, it’s worth the extra day out of your itinerary.
6. Less frequently visited Quy Nhon. Its atmosphere feels undiscovered; you’ll rely on local recommendations for restaurants and choose from just a few guesthouse resorts and one or two larger hotels. Check out the Long Khanh Pagoda, a landmark dating from the 18th century, whose 20th century Buddha is 17 meters high. Noteworthy: the Thap Doi Cham Towers, reminiscent of Khmer temples. Beach quality: terrific, with flat, sugary sand and no crowds.
To be continued in Part 2...

Mekong Delta with i Tour Vietnam
Scenes taken from i Tour Vietnam's Mekong Delta tour (itourvn.com). In this southern region of Vietnam, it is easy to lose sight of land because the delta encompasses multiple rivers, canals, and streams that are woven together. For many Vietnamese citizens, the Mekong Delta is better known as the “rice bowl.” Over the decades, it has become an agricultural miracle that provides more than one-third of the country’s annual food source from just ten percent of its land mass. Even in this rural landmark, the Mekong Delta is one of Vietnam’s most densely populated area.
You will encounter many boats, houses, restaurants and markets that float along the waterways; and pass through green rice paddies and fishing villages. This trip allows you to understand and explore the daily lifestyle of Vietnam’s country-men and women.

Ninh Binh Tam Coc -- Our FAVORITE Place in Vietnam! // Travelling Full Time
NINH BINH || TAM COC || TRANG AN || MUA CAVES || BAI DINH PAGODA || BOAT TOUR || BICH DONG PAGODA
This is the BEST place in Vietnam!
We arrived in the middle of the night after a long bus ride from Ha Long Bay (check out our Ha long Bay vlog if you haven't yet).
It was dark and quiet...we knew we were in a small farming village. We went to bed, and the next morning we woke up with views of the rice fields and the mountains surrounding us. It was January, so the rice fields were brown but it didn't take away from the beauty.
After breakfast, we grabbed a scooter and went to Mua Caves, Trang An Boat Tour, and Bai Dinh Pagoda. This was the highlight of our trip in Vietnam. All 3 of these places were incredible in their own way.
Although a day trip from Hanoi is do-able, we recommend staying for at least 2 nights to truly enjoy this place. It felt like we stepped back in time...we were in a fairy tale. We also recommend going to Bich Dong Pagoda if you have the time.
We stayed at Tam Coc Riverside Homestay, and had a wonderful time.

Traveling with a baby - Vietnam part I
After we traveled to Nicaragua with Feyla, our daughter (1year 5 months old), which was one of the best experience of our live, we decided to go far again! Exactly one year later, we went to Vietnam to experience lovely food, sweet people and enjoy being together 24/7 for three weeks long. As Feyla was 2 years old, this trip was quite a challenge. Busy streets, scooters and cars everywhere which made us a bit more cautious wherever she walked. But it was all worth it.
We started of in Hanoi, a very busy and energetic city. We had a little jet lag which made our start quite heavy. After two days we found our rhythm and were able to explore the city. Eating bahn mi, Pho and Bun bo nam bo. After a few days we took a domestic flight to Hoi an, a sweet lovely small city. the first two nights we stayed close to the old town... were able to use the bikes of the homestay to ride like we do in Amsterdam. See lovely buildings and people. We loved this small village and decided to move to the beach. We went to a hostel, Under the Coconut tree, an amazing hostel! (Use by booking.com code for an additional discount).
After Hoi An, Leonie was actually ready to go to Can Tho, to see the Mekong Delta and a floating market. I convinced her to make a quick stop in Da Nang as we were still on the east coast and we still had enough time. We had a great day at a very chill beach. We only stayed here 2 days and did not see very spectacular things. We took another flight to Can Tho another lovely small village. The first day was food focused. We had to walk 20 minutes to get to a street where they had great food! Eating vietnamese pancakes. Via our hotel we booked a tour to the Mekong Delta, see the floating market followed with a super chill tour through beautiful calm and serene places.
TIP: Take a 'private tour'! Our boat went faster and we were just with the three of us which made the tour feel less touristic. Actually, we did not see a lot of other boats, which was amazing. Our guide, who unfortunately didn't speak english, took us at 5/6 o clock on the boat to the market. We had a nice vietnamese coffee, bought mangos and melon and took us to a small local (bit touristic shop). She was great and took a lot of time for us. Even with the language barrier she was able to show us amazing things from various plants, to fish to even a snake farm with gigantic snakes. We ended with a lunch and then went back home. This was a great experience.
It was time for us to leave Can Tho, go to a bounty island and do nothing. Phu Quoc was our next destination. Instead of taking a plane, we decided to go by bus and ferry. A cheaper and slower alternative but it was nice as it was another experience. After a 6 hours of bus and ferry trip, we arrived on the east coast of the island. We took a taxi to our hostel which was near Rory's bar, a very nice bar to have a cocktail during the evening. Leonie unfortunately got laryngitis, very hurtful. Luckily, I brought my 600mg Ibuprofen and bought tiger balm to take away the pain. It did not spoil our stay. We were so happy that we were at a place with minimal cars and scooters. It made us way more relaxed as we had to watch Feyla all the time in the cities. She was not able to walk and run with busy streets. We only had to watch her near the beach, but that was doable.
After 5/6 days, when we slept good, Leonie got well and had some proper beach sessions, we were ready to end our strip in Ho Chi Minh. We took a final flight to the city.. we treated ourselves with a good hotel, a good bed and rooftop pool.
Ho Chi Minh was amazing! Lovely food, markets and stores. We didn't want to do a lot as Leonie just got her energy back and we had a busy flight ahead. Go ahead and look for 42 Nguyen Hue, it looks like an apartment building but it has sweet boutiques and restaurants in it. Even though we had quite some issues with our jet leg, experiencing quite some stress as Feyla did not feel relaxed as we were afraid of all the scooters and cars, we had an amazing time here. The fact that we were 24/7 together for three weeks long was very special. As we grew our family with 33% last year, we did not go on a large holiday but 2020 looks promising! We are aiming for Panama, Mexico, Belize or Guatemala.. Maybe a mix of a few.. But we like central America! See you soon! Have a look at the second part of our trip:
