Hanoi's young old school photographers
Last Saturday, I sat in a Hanoi cafe beside two young guys with a bunch of classic film cameras spread across the table between their coffee cups. This is what they had to say about their love of old film cameras. (Apologies for the focus issues - this was shot on the spot with a little Lumix G3 that I'm still getting the hang of!).

Hanoi's Largest Indoor Market - Dong Xuan Market
It's surprising how Hanoi's largest indoor market feels so claustrophobic and small. Explore the market with us as we negotiate our way through and make small talk in Vietnamese.
Want to get paid to travel the world like we do? Get our 50 Creative Ways to Make Money while Traveling by clicking here: chaseforadventure.com/cheatsheet
Exploring the Dong Xuang market, which is the largest indoor market in Hanoi, was anxiety producing. lol There is so much wholesale shopping crammed into such a tiny space. We were able to find everything from souvenirs to clothing and shoe knock offs. If you were to ask where the best place to shop in Hanoi was, this wouldn't be on the top of my list but is defiantly a must see. This is especially true if you are staying in the old quarter or even just shopping in the old quarter.
As always thank you so much for watching!

About Us!
If you had told me a year ago that we were going to sell all of our stuff to start backpacking the world, I would have called you a liar. Decisions like the one we made start with an inflection point. A point where you realize that life can never be the same anymore. After a challenging, and painful year in 2017, we decided we needed to go out and live the life we wanted to live, instead of watching it on someone else’s YouTube Channel. We had given everything we had, physically and emotionally, for other’s dreams and were ready to work that hard for ourselves. From rock bottom, Chase for Adventure was born.
The Chase Begins
We moved in with our parents, sold everything we own including our cars, and paid off $70,000 worth of debt. We worked 70hrs/week over the last year trying to save up $15,000 to make our dreams come true. Now, we are travel journalists who showcase the beauty in different cultures and inspire others to chase their dreams through our YouTube Channel and website Chase for Adventure. We want to show others that if they want something bad enough, they’ll figure out how to get it; show people who are struggling that they can make the light at the end of their tunnel. Chase for Adventure is more than just a travel vlog and blog; it’s the chronicles of what it’s like to have a dream and do whatever it takes to attain it.

VIETNAM OVERNIGHT TRAIN TO HANOI! Tour of Soft & Hard Sleeper
Travel by overnight sleeper train in Vietnam from Danang to Hanoi! I rode the 4-berth soft sleeper and toured the 6-berth hard sleeper near the end. Watch more Vietnam vlogs:

Hi family! Alright...so this overnight train ride to Hanoi was not the most pleasant for me; however, it is still a great way to travel Vietnam. Here are some things I'd recommend you doing if you are considering taking the sleeper train:
-DO bring food & snacks! No food cart rolled around during the entire 16 hour train ride. I kept trying to listen for the wheeling of the cart and even left my door open around dinner time. There was nothing. There was water and hot water though :) Cup o noodles team!
-DO bring jacket, scarf, or sarong that you can wear. It gets COLD at night especially as we get closer North. You can even lay them down if you're afraid of unclean bedsheets.
-DO check the door & lights in your room when you arrive in case there's some kind of malfunction. You may be able to ask the train staff (who come around sometimes) to switch to another one.
-DON'T talk super loudly and be mindful of other passengers in the room. A man ended up taking the berth next to me at 12am and was talking on the phone for a whole hour :/
-DON'T buy your tickets online if you can just get it at the station a few days earlier or even a day earlier! I met a couple of travellers who just showed up that day and booked. It is always cheaper way cheaper at the train station. OR ask your hotel staff to help you book it. Don't go to a tour agency - they'll charge you lots. I was traveling during TET so had no choice but to secure it online. If you're on last resort - check out 12go.asia (the site I use for train & ferry travel in Southeast Asia).
If you don't want to take a sleeper train but still want to experience it, take the Vietnam railway train from Hue to Danang or Danang to Hue. It is a 2.5 hour train ride with breathtaking views of Vietnam's coastline! You can just get a regular seat, no sleeper needed.
While this train ride didn't go so well for me, I know the experience is different for everyone. Take it or not, it's up to you :)! It IS way better than the overnight busses - or so I heard.
Thank you for tuning in! Hope this information helps you when traveling in Vietnam!

Things to do in Hanoi, Vietnam | vagabond vlog
My high school best friend Sharon and I decided to book an 11-day trip to Vietnam and Thailand. We did 3.5 days in Vietnam (Hanoi and Halong Bay), and 5 in Thailand! I packed only a carry-on for these 11 days (other days were all spent traveling) so you will see me wear pretty much the same outfit all of Vietnam (don't worry, by the 2nd day, I had ordered laundry service hehe).
Vietnam has always been a very special place to me because all my favorite people in my life are from there, I love the food, and its complex history has always drawn me in. Though this was just a dipping of the toes, I'm excited to go back ASAP.
It was 50-60s F which was pretty cold for an LA girl like me but otherwise, the weather was prime. :-) I think I spent about $3-4 or less per meal here which is WHY we were PIGGING out aLL the time !! I don't remember a lot of the names of the places we went to so if you know them, please let me know so I can write them down here!
THAILAND vlog coming soon...

Hanoi Hannah Radio Broadcasts - Vietnam War
She called herself Thu Houng---the fragrance of Autumn. We called her Hanoi Hannah. Her job was not to charm and seduce, but to chill and frighten. Her English was almost impeccable and as North Vietnam’s premier propagandist she tried to convince American GI’s that the war was immoral and they should lay down their arms and go home.
June 1967 Hanoi Hannah: “How are you G.I. Joe? It seems to me that most of you are poorly informed about the going of the war, to say nothing about a correct explanation of your presence over here.”
The wartime words of Hanoi Hannah, part of the loud soundtrack of the Vietnam war, which may have been the first war fought to a rock n’ roll background. But for American G.I.’s along with the beat came the message; propaganda from North Vietnam’s radio beamed south or misinformation from the U.S. Armed Forces radio in Saigon.
July 1967 Hanoi Hannah: “Now for our talk. A Vietnam black GI who refuses to be a victim of racism is Billy Smith. He was illegally searched and put in Long Binh jail. The evidence that showed him guilty was this: being black, poor and against the war and refusing to be a victim of racism.”
Mike Roberts, 41 of Detroit, Michigan remembers Hannah. Based in Danang in July 1967, Roberts summed up his recollections of the black veterans attitude toward Hannah’s broadcasts. “I remember July 23rd. I was sitting in a tent with guys from Charlie Company and we were gambling, drinking and having a good time and listenin’ to the radio. One guy says ‘Shshh, sshh, be quiet’ and he says” There’s a riot in Detroit.’
There was no feeling of what were they rioting for. We all knew what they wanted, you know what I’m sayin’? So of course we would feel empathy for the folks back home.
“Then Hannah comes on and she knows what guard unit was called in and what kind of weapons were used…you know what I’m sayin’? Thats when it starts to hit home. We knew what kind of fire power and devastation that kind of weapons can do to people, and now those same weapons were turning on us, you know our own military is killing our own people.”
We might as well have been Viet Cong. But Hannah picked up on it and talked about it. And clearly if she knew about it, Armed Forces Radio did too. That was the first time I started hearing Hannah call upon Blacks, you know, to rethink the situation here. Why are you fighting? You have your own battle to fight in America. We were smokin’ herbs, you know and we decided to listen to Hanoi Hannah.”
Vintage Vespa Tour, Hanoi Vietnam
Ok so here is a way you can get in amongst the chaos without fearing your not going to make it. Hanoi Vespa Tours are fantasist value for money with their personalised service door to door.
My wife and I had our own drivers while our very knowledgable guide Helen (Lệ Võ Nhật) followed us around to many of the must-see tourist hotspots.
Our drivers Le & Han were amazing. When the traffic is simply at a stand still, these guys work their magic safety manoeuvring their way through every possible gap to keep us moving and on our way.
Though there are plenty of holy-Crap moments, you can be rest-assured you will feel very safe with these guys, so you can relax and enjoy the scenery with plenty of stops along the way.
Though there are a couple of GoPro scenes, this was pretty much entirely shot with a DJI OSMO, which was fantastic to keep the footage nice and smooth.

Hope you give it a go . . .

After opening four months ago, I finally found out about this great little cafe here in Saigon, owned and run by a group of photographers.
Heading over to meet that same friend, I found a quiet little place away from the noise of Saigon to drink good coffee, look at photo books and just escape.
