First Steam at New Street for 45 years - 6201 'The Midlander'
46201 'Princess Elizabeth' hauls 'The Midlander' out of Birmingham New Street this morning, an audacious move organised by Tyseley's Vintage Trains, and the first steam hauled express to leave New Street since around 1964/65 when the station was rebuilt. The train arrived behind green Class 47 47773 which then remained on the rear of the outwards train.
Some extraneous chatter from nearby photographers, there were literally hundreds present at the walls and along the platforms, as well as many casual observers and shoppers etc.

1950s/60s B-ham New Street
A look at B-ham New Street Station during the 1950s and 60s in the days when natural daylight was available around the Station, before a shopping centre was placed on top of it during the mid 1960s, making it now at platform level the dark and dingy place it is today. All credits for this video must go to the producers of A - Z videos a series of video tapes I bought during the early 90s called The Changing Face Of British Railways. Enjoy

Clun's First Run
Although we've seen footage of Tyseley's recently-restored flagship locomotive no 7029 :Clun Castle already, the engine's circular tour from Tyseley out via Birmingham Snow Hill, Stourbridge Junction, Worcester, Stroud, Swindon and Didcot to Oxford and return from Oxford over the Cotswold line on Saturday 6th April 2019 was billed as its First Tour which, presumably, meant proper tour as the others have been test runs and two short evening trains to and from Worcester. Whatever, this tour was fabulous, with the engine working magnificently and throwing out plenty of exhaust fumes (that is, magnificent to our eyes!). We see it accelerating through Droitwich station after slowing for the approach curve and junction on the outward journey. Welcome back Clun and hooray for Vintage Trains, the newest TOC.

45596 'Bahamas' On Her First Vintage Trains Outing To Worcester (04/07/2019):
Having returned to Tyseley for the recent open day courtesy of the Bahamas locomotive Society, 45596 is also booked to undertake a number of Vintage Trains tours throughout July.
This is her first outing with VT's evening dining train to Worcester and filmed entirely in Birmingham Moor Street station.
The opening shot shows her bringing in the coaching stock from Tyseley to arrive on Platform 4 with Class 47 D1755/47773 on the rear.
A few views around the loco and of Driver Ray Churchill talking to Adrian Shooter (on left) who after a lifelong railway career is now a Director at Vintage Trains and the VT Community Benefit Society.
47773 (unseen) then drags the ensemble out of the bay to the UDG at Bordesley to await it's path through Moor Street on the mainline.
The cautious approach is to allow the signal (at my position) to clear without the need to stop & restart. Thankfully it did and Ray opened up 45596 to tackle the gradient through the tunnel beneath the city into Snow Hill Station and onwards to Worcester.
I had planned to get a further shot at Small Heath on the return which didn't materialise. Ray told me in Moor Street that he was looking forward to giving Bahamas her head as there were no NR guaging restrictions in place but I was not expecting him to be 35 minutes early!!
It was also nice to meet up again with Pete Saunders who although a photographer follows my channel & is too considerate to 'crowd' me or ruin my video with all those silly noises that still cameras produce. You Pete are are rarity so thanks for your consideration!!
