Founded in 1977 and incorporated in 1978, Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) at Riverwood is a not-for-profit charitable arts organization. As one of Mississauga’s six pillar arts and culture organizations and its premier visual art centre, VAM concentrates its efforts on three areas of excellence: Art Education, Art Exhibition and Community Engagement. VAM’s team of artist instructors offer over 200 courses, workshops, and camps.

Days To Remember Commemorative Book
Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) will launch its new Days to Remember Commemorative Book celebrating over 150 collective years of visual arts in the City of Mississauga. This inclusive ‘Canada 150’ project will be unveiled at VAM’s daylong celebration including an exhibition, public reception held at Visual Arts Mississauga on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 11 am to 3pm. The official cake cutting ceremony will begin at 11:30 am. The event is free to the public. VAM is located at 4170 Riverwood Park Lane in Mississauga.
“VAM’s Days to Remember Commemorative Book was created to honour the visual arts collectives associated with VAM and to celebrate their legacy,” explains Exhibitions and Events Coordinator Eldiana Begovic. “Our book recognizes the integral contributions made to the arts by these founding art collectives here in the City of Mississauga and tells the story of their creative journey. We invite you to join VAM for the opportunity to meet the artists which represent over 250 years of combined creative energy in the City of Mississauga.”

1. Sunday, Oct. 22 – 2-4 pm – Bianka Guna Golden Artist Colors, Inc. QoR Watercolors Lecture and Demo with Bianka Guna. A short presentation of (by Golden Artist Colors) history will keep every watercolor lover well informed. All participants will receive free product samples and a literature packet, including color charts and QoR sample cards.
2. Friday, Nov. 17 – 7-9 pm – So you want to Show your Artwork? Art Gallery of Mississauga Curator of Contemporary Art Kendra Ainsworth will show you how to get you ready for exhibiting your work. Q+A to follow.
3. Sunday, Nov. 19 – 1-4 pm – Artwork Critique led by York University Professor and world renowned typographer Paul Sych. Paul will lead a discussion and group critique, Students are invited to bring one or two pieces of artwork, a few which will be selected for discussion.
4. Friday, Dec. 8 – 7-10 pm Making Art for Giving. Join us for a social evening of art making. Helen McCusker and Gillian Sych will guide this creative play session. Materials are included.
5. Monday, Jan. 15 – 7-10 pm – Drawing From Life. Join artists Kim Lee Kho and Kal Honey for an evening of film and group discussion about the creative process and the artist’s life.
6. Sunday, Feb. 11 – 1-4 pm – Death of the Sketchbook. Artist and illustrator, Paul McCusker will discuss the evolution and innovation of the sketchbook, paper and beyond!
7. Sunday, Mar. 4 – 1-4 pm – The Juried Show. Discussion and Q+A with Curator Judy Daley about the art of curating and insight into jurying visual art.
8. Friday, Mar. 23 – 7-10 pm “Art and Craft” Film and discussion led by artist instructor Helen McCusker about copyright law in visual art.

Located in central Mississauga and nestled predominantly along the east bank of the historic Credit River, the 150 acre Riverwood property is a special place. A unique all-season destination, visitors enjoy walking paths comprised of 200 to 350 year old trees and mixed old growth forests. Riverwood also offers a bird terrace, an art studio/visual arts centre, a wetland area and a variety of other historic buildings. Visual Arts Mississauga offers art classes, educational programs, as well as many other learning opportunities. With woodland trails, splendid wildlife and glorious views, Riverwood is an ideal site to observe and enjoy the best of what Mother Nature has to offer. In this video we'll get a look at the paths through the property and visit the MacEwan House Art Studio and the Visual Art Centre. We'll meet some friendly creatures and one rather large predator along the way. We'll see some nice boardwalks and bridges before climbing the stone stairs to Chappell House (the home of The Riverwood Conservancy) which is surrounded by colourful gardens.
