The Joke Shop-- Folk Song
I have no idea who wrote this song or who is singing in it, all I know is that it is folk, and I like it. I mostly uploading this so that I personally know where I can find a copy because their doesn't seem to be one anywhere on Youtube so if you don't like it, I don't really care. However, if you do great! And as this is folk and meant to be shared and enjoyed, I'll put the lyrics hear as well:
The Joke Shop
The Joker stood behind rope in the crowd that gathered round,
To pay his last respects the day they knocked the joke shop down.
It's national crisis day again said the notice on the wall,
As they swung the lead balloon to beat them all.
It really is a tragedy! We heard the owners say
But theirs really no demand for jokes today...
Did you hear the one, did you hear the one cried the red eyed sad mouth clown,
Did you hear the one about the day they knocked the joke shop down.
Pertinently he filled the sack with joke books old and torn,
with riddles and conundrums from before the doom was born.
As the dust rose up and filled his eyes the joker murmured low,
If we're going down theirs better ways to go...
He slipped away unnoticed, with his riddles, reals and rhymes,
to build the biggest joke bomb of all time...
Did you hear the one, did you hear the one cried the red eyed sad mouth clown,
Did you hear the one about the day they knocked the joke shop down.
Day and night the joker worked up in his attic room,
while ministers and editors still reveled in the news.
With laughing air he fashioned there the very bests of jests,
until a rumor of his humor reached the press.
He's trying to be funny! Screamed that man in the dunwatch cloak,
If that thing goes off we'll be overcome by the joke...
Did you hear the one, did you hear the one cried the red eyed sad mouth clown,
Did you hear the one about the day they knocked the joke shop down.
The wanted posters showed his face and the nature of his sin,
no distinguishing marks but you can tell him by the grin.
The racing time the laughter lines run deeper on his face,
till with a smile he dropped the final joke in place.
The last I heard they were closing in as the joker lit the fuse,
now it's up to you and me to say the news...
Did you hear the one, did you hear the one cried the red eyed sad mouth clown,
Did you hear the one about the day they knocked the joke shop down.
Did you hear the one, did you hear the one cried the red eyed sad mouth clown,
Did you hear the one about the day they knocked the joke shop down....
