Hiking at Wade Mtn Nature Preserve - Huntsville, AL
On my last full day in Huntsville, AL, I didn't feel like biking so I went for a hike at the Wade Mtn Nature Preserve via the Wade Mtn Trailhead.
On this hike, I hit up the Wade Mtn Greenway which turns into the Wade Mtn Trail, over to the Fossil Bench Trail to the end of the property, then back to the intersection of the Bostick Trail, up the Bostick Trail back to the Wade Mtn Trail and back out the greenway.
I had read of being able to find fossils somewhere, but I guess I wasn't looking in the right spot. I was mistaken thinking the location would be at the edge of the property, but it wasn't. If anyone knows of where to look, please comment below.
For anyone interested in the route I hiked, you can check it out via this Strava link:

20190830 Walls of Jericho AL hike
This video is about Hiking the Walls of Jericho in northern Alabama and Southern Tennesee. We hiked this at the end of August and the creeks were low or dry. There werent any waterfalls, but we did see snakes, frogs, salamanders and had perfect weather. It is tough coming out and just a reminder, that we did not have much cell signal during our hike down or in the canyon. Great Hike and I am looking forward to checking this one out again during the fall and spring. Dont forget to subscribe to catch other adventures as they get loaded into youtube! Thanks for being the best person you can be!

NATURE TRAIL HIKE | HUNTSVILLE AL | S1E6
✅SEASON 1 EPISODE 6:
Our #Journey takes us to Madison County Nature Trail in Huntsville, AL. We've been here for two months and haven't explored too much so we went on a nature trail hike! Despite Huntsville being urban, right outside is the Old Town District and just south of that is Green Mountain. Sitting atop of that is the Madison County Nature Trail, or to the locals, Green Mountain Nature Trail.
It's a cost-free 1.5 mile trail that should be taken at a leisurely pace(we did ours in about 3 hours.) There's so much to take in in such a small area. The wildlife is very present compared to the few other places we hiked. We ran across snakes, ticks, butterflies, turtles and heard people saw deer that day. Fun fact: this is the only Braille trail in all of Alabama!

Hiking McKay Hollow Trail, Monte Sano State Park, Alabama
The McKay Hollow Trail is a 4 mile out and back trail located in Monte Sano State Park, near Huntsville, Alabama (we combined McKay Hollow with the South Plateau Loop Trail on this day to make a 4 mile loop hike instead).
We had a beautiful day with the temperatures not too hot for summer in Alabama and the humidity relatively low for this time of year. This trail features a small waterfall (only a trickle on this day due to dry weather) and a steep descent into a deep and refreshingly cool valley; or hollow as they say around here. During the summer season, the views are few and filtered, but the forest is beautiful and green. There is no reliable water along this trail, so make sure to bring plenty along.

Bigfoot Encounter North Alabama?
Stan Reese hiking on Monte Sano in Huntsville, Alabama in May of 2017 hears strange noises he is unable to identify. Could this be the Southern Sasquatch many people have sought through the years? Whether or not you believe in Bigfoot, this is a noise that you certainly don't hear everyday on a mountain in the Tennessee Valley.

Wenonah Red Ore Mine Site Trail Extension From Red Mountain Park
A new trail has been under construction from 2018 to early 2019 as an extension of the Red Rock Trail System in the Birmingham & Jones Valley Area. This trail has been sponsored by the Fresh Water Land Trust, Red Mountain Park & the City Of Birmingham with taxpayer funded bonds used for its construction. The general plan called for a new parking area on the north side of Red Mountain just below the old TCI (Tennessee Coal & Iron Company) Wenonah No.10 Mine Hoist House just off of Venice Road. The new trail would connect with Red Mountain Park's North Branch Trail and continue west across Venice Road following the old rail bed. From there the trail would extend along the rail bed remains below the Wenonah No.9 Mine and the gradually wind its way westward to connect with the current High Ore Line Trail. What was supposed to be a pretty simple plan of just clearing out space to make the trail and leaving as many trees and historic mining structures in place has been turned into a major construction site with many parts of the trail resembling a major two lane highway. How much money has been spent on this is anyone's guess especially with the new parking area and sidewalks being installed. This video was made to show the trail being built with some historic images as to what it all looked like when TCI had their mining operations at Wenonah and just before the trail construction began. Seems like allot of taxpayers money was way overspent and no historical consulting was done prior and during trail construction. Also not allot of consideration has been put forth into a pedestrian crossing on an extremely busy Venice Road. Many thanks to Mr. W. Johnson for providing the photos of the trails construction to make this video.
