Gigantor in Kobe,Japan 【Tetsujin 28-go 鉄人28号】
<鉄人28号Tetsujin Nijūhachi-gō>
The Kobe Tetsujin Project was started to create a giant 18 meter tall Tetsujin 28 in Nada-ward to give strength and hope to the people of Kobe after surviving the 1995 earthquake. Mitsuteru Yokoyama, the artist that created the manga Tetsujin 28, was born and lived in Kobe. All Japanese, young and old love to visit this monument, play around his feet, and enjoy being in the presence of this historical character. Gao!

I have been in Japan now for a bit over 20 years. My interest in Japan started with Origami when I was 5 years old and after coming here in High School, I just could not stop coming back. I have enjoyed traveling all over Japan and studying many of the traditional arts such as Kimono, Tea Ceremony, Kendo and Kyudo. The more I see and learn the more I come to understand how much more there is to find out about. Japan really is a wonderful place to visit or live. I hope these videos give a taste of what one can do here, encourage those that have yet to visit, and give new ideas for people looking to try something new and interesting here. Yokoso!

Kobe City's new statue Tetsujin-28 go
Today, my wife and I visited Kobe City's new 60 foot (18m) manga statue of the famous character, Tetsujin-28 go, or Ironman, originally created by the late Mitsuteru Yokoyama who was born in Nagata. The project cost ¥135 million ($1.4 million) which was mostly raised from private funding.
It's located in Wakamatsu Park, Shin Nagata which can be reached from the central station of Sannomiya. Shin Nagata is 2 stops after Kobe Station. Come out on the seaside exit, turn right and walk until you see the park on the left.
Today, there was still some site work going on but it will be officially open this Sun., Oct. 4.
It is intended as a symbol of the city's revival after the 1995 Kobe Earthquake.

Japanese Martial Arts Spy Story | Mission: Naginata ★ ONLY in JAPAN
Japan's Samurai City is a short and scenic train trip from Tokyo's TOBU Asakusa Station. This place of warriors, Japanese sake and good food is called Aizu Wakamatsu located in west Fukushima. It's the focus of my cringe-worthy spy story filled with deception and total mayhem.
Aizu Wakamatsu is famous for NAGINATA, a martial art using a weapon of long sticks with blades! That's why I'm here ー to learn a new skill from a bunch of old ladies who are vicious with their Naginata. I should say ー deadly!
Adding Naginata to my repertoire of deadly assault moves is my challenge but the Agent from the Underworld is in my way.
At every turn, the Agent is there to try and harm me.
Brainwashing. Poison. Pure evil. That's the Agent's game.
Thankfully I have Wakamattsun - a 30 centimeter samurai and area mascot on my side to help me out of tough spots, and I seem to get in tough spots a lot.
PS: THE ENDING is epic. Meet the mastermind himself.
WHERE IS AIZU WAKAMATSU (会津若松) ?

Goen Yakiniku Okinawa
Today is Travis's only day off this week but instead of lounging around the house he goes to the hobby shop and works on my car for me. While he is doing that we are home with the kids until Kay gets home from an appointment. When Travis is done he comes home and picks us up so we can all go and pick up Nick from school. We hang around base for a little while until Kay gets home and then we take the kiddos to her. After that we go to a yakiniku restaurant, Goen, that Mandy wanted since a few days ago. It is an all you can eat steak/meat/veggies restaurant, with a grill in the center of the table that you can make your own food on. When we leave there we go to a local Honey story that use to have Honeycomb ice cream- but they no longer have it. Mandy is super bummed out because it is so good and they don't have it anymore. When we get home we hang out and Calvin attacks Mandy because he thinks that she was hurting daddy. He always beats up on us - all in good fun. Lol.
That is that
And we will see you when we see you.
As always - Thanks for watching and being a part of our family!

New plant: that does not perform photosynthesis has been discovered in Japan.
New plant: that does not perform photosynthesis has been discovered in Japan.
Known as mycoheterotrophic, there are some plant species that have abandoned photosynthesis and are only shown above the ground when they are fructified or in bloom. Mycoheterotrophic plants live as parasites within forest ecosystems: it gets all its nutrients from the parasitic fungi. Now, in the subtropical island of Ishigaki, in Okinawa Japan, a new species of this type has been discovered: the Sciaphila sugimotoi.
Sciaphila sugimotoi is about five to ten centimeters above the ground, with violet flowers about two millimeters in diameter. The research team responsible for this discovery has been led by associate professor Suetsugu Kenji of the Graduate School of Science at Kobe University. The name of the new species, Sciaphila sugimotoi, is due to the graduate of the University of Kyushu School of Bio-Environmental Sciences, Sugimoto Takaomi, who also played an important role in identifying the species.
