Exploring Free Activities in Madrid | Spain Vlog
Hey, RVoyagers! We are back with a brand new video that highlights a few fun and free activities to do in Madrid, Spain. We recommend checking them all out, but as you will see in the video visiting the Museo del Prado during their free hours ended up being a long wait. We recommend that if you take advantage of their free admission time you get in line early so you can have as much time in the museum as possible. We ended up only getting one hour which wasn't nearly enough time. We barely scratched the surface. There are so many great art pieces in the museum.
1. Feel the City Tours (free, pay in a tip of your choosing - offered in English, Spanish, and French - we highly recommend doing this tour at the beginning of your visit so you can get acquainted with the city's layout and history.)
2. Museo Nacional Del Prado (Free Monday-Saturday from 6 pm to 8 pm and on Sundays and holidays from 5 pm to 7 pm)
3. El Retiro Park (free year round)

MADRID SPAIN~ Travel Vlog/Video!!
Hi Everyone!
Welcome back to all those who are returning and welcome to all those who are new~
This video is the eleventh part of the thirteen-part series I am doing on my trip to Europe in Summer 2018 (if you would like to skip forward to the part of the trip in Madrid, Spain, you can do so at 0:50!)
I will put all of the places I went to down below!! If anyone has any questions or comments, feel free to let me know!~
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
June 1, 2018 (Madrid, Spain)
--We woke up at 4:15am and checked out of our airbnb at 4:30am and headed our way via uber to ORLY airport where we took the 6:25am flight to Madrid.
--We arrived at 8:35am where we got a day pass for transportation and left our baggage at a bagbnb since the lockers were removed from the airport
--After dropping off our bag, we got breakfast at Pans while waiting for the walking tour to start (they said we needed a reservation but let us in anyway, because.. extra money is better for them LOL)
--The tour was fine, I didn't think Madrid was oh-so-amazing but we had a great experience at lunch which was where our tourguide Matt recommended us to. The staff at InClan was amazing and super sweet (we even got a free glass of sangria because of the tour)
--Anyways, after lunch, we still had time to spare so we walked around, revisited places that we went on tour so we can look around more thoroughly and buy souviners (we even went into H&M-super fancy). We wanted to go to the bull arena which is well known there but, timing just didn't work out, so we headed back to the airport instead.
--We picked up our bags and arrived at the airport around 7:00pm and walked around, grabbed some snacks before our flight at 8:30pm.
--We arrived in Barcelona at 9:40pm and headed our way to our airbnb (we really did not like the night bus in spain because it's not included in the 2day pass ticket) but regardless we arrived safe and sound at 11:50pm (what a trip right? haha) and knocked out for a full day tomorrow.
Overall, I thought Madrid was okay, I was just really tired at this point from all the moving around haha, but still, very excited for what Barcelona has in store !!

This week we begin our van life road trip through a country we have been both excited and nervous to visit -- SPAIN! Our love for the Spanish language, the amazing culture & history and Eamon's zest for kiteboarding have all made Spain a top priority on our European adventures. However, many vanlifers have shared their break-in stories with us and it's left us a little on edge to leave our tiny house on wheels anywhere unsupervised to explore the cities/towns. But, as we always say it's important to experience everything for yourself so we jump into our Spanish adventures head first ❤️.
Join us as we spend a day driving from Lisbon, Portugal to Madrid, Spain and stop to spend some time exploring the capital city. As always, we do our best to show you what it's really like to live in a van full time with your significant other and hope to inspire you to plan your very own road trip (whether it's a quick drive from your home or a long, epic adventure somewhere else in the world).

Traveling from Madrid to Granada | Spain Vlog | Full Time Traveling Couple
We hope you enjoy our new video titled: Traveling from Madrid to Granada | Spain Vlog | Full Time Traveling Couple
We decided to travel from Madrid to Granada on a bus through one of the main bus companies in Spain called Alsa. They offer frequent and affordable bus routes throughout Europe. The total time from Madrid to Granada is approximately 5 hours. We opted for the bus because it was a lot cheaper and had a more direct route than the train. This bus was equipped with small screens for his passenger with music and movies, which made the trip a more pleasurable experience.
This is the third video in our Spain Vlog series. As a full time traveling couple we have enjoyed exploring Spain and are excited to share some of our trip highlights with you.
Granada, Spain proved to be a city full of rich history. We recommend making it a stop if you find yourself exploring Spain. We hope you enjoy this travel vlog.

Top Things to See and Do in Madrid, Spain During A Stay
As a major aspect of our city guides arrangement, we talked with Lauren Aloise from Spanish Sabores who has been living in Madrid for barely one year.
She already lived in Seville, however chose to move to the capital for a faster pace of life and some extraordinary chances.
Lauren imparts to us her insider tips on the best things to see and do in Madrid, including where to eat, rest, drink, shop and investigate.
Madrid is a city that has something for everybody, and you'll feel like you have a place from the simple first day.
Offering world-class historical centers, shopping at each financial plan, inconceivable food, and exquisite engineering Madrid keeps individuals returning a seemingly endless amount of time.
It is a major city, yet feels more like numerous residential communities, as each area has an extremely unmistakable character. It's where people viewing is fun, you can arrange a lager whenever of day, and it is difficult to come up short on things to investigate and find.
Activities in Madrid
Everybody who visits Madrid must visit the Prado Museum, craftsmanship darling or not. It is overwhelmingly enormous, yet you can exploit the free passage hours to get only an essence of what's inside.

Vlog 5~Laud: Seville, Spain to Córdoba, Spain to Madrid Spain
DAY 6
Never would I have imagined one year later I would have the privilege to see something I was awe-struck over in eleventh grade. Every day in Señora O’Connell’s Spanish 4 Honors class, my best friend and I would see a poster of La Mezquita located in Córdoba. Little did I know, just one year later I would have the privilege of seeing this place of worship, a Mosque when the Muslims ruled Spain that was converted into a cathedral after Catholic conquest, with the my same best friend. (Hey Peri!)
Today we were ~finally~ able to sleep past 7:30 and wake up at 8:15. That sleep was oh so glorious. We had our last breakfast in Sevilla, packed the bags in the bus, and headed off for an hour ride to Córdoba. Once we drove over the famous river, Guadalquivir River, we finally entered our last city in The brick oven of Andalucia. When we were dropped off, I’m being serious when I say this, almost everyone ran to grab gelato. I swear, it’s almost like we need it in our bloodstream in order to function. Goodbye coffee, hello gelato!
We met our tour guides and headed in. For many of us we never have experienced a mosque, therefore it was very eye-opening. This mosque had 1,000 pillars when it was built, but as the centuries have passed there are now only 850. This mosque was wide open unlike the Alcazar. You could see the beautiful archways, mosaic tiles, intricate ceilings, and a bunch of “wowed” faces. We learned the history of the people who prayed and their daily life. There was a huge patio upon arrival in the mosque, this was a place for washing. The Muslims needed to pray 5 times a day, but before entering they would need to wash their feet, hands, ears, eyes, nose... etc... (all of the senses). I guess they didn’t wash their feet thoroughly because legend says the mosque reeked of feet!
Our walk through was interesting and we were exposed to a different style of prayer.
Once we left the mosque we had an hour for free time. Most of us grabbed a quick bite to eat so we had plenty of time for pictures and shopping- oh, and yes, we fit in another dosage of gelato.
The streets were bright, quaint, and welcoming. I stumbled by a cute boutique and found beautiful pieces made in Córdoba. The talent of the people is incredible.
In addition to shopping, I had my first opportunity to try authentic paella and la tortilla española. La tortilla española is simply huevos y papas (eggs and potatoes). Think frittata or quiche, but better. My dad, when he studied in Spain, would always stop by a bar to grab a bite before heading off to his next adventure. He now constantly makes it at home for my family and whenever I had to make a cultural food item for Spanish class. Today, I had the privilege of FaceTiming my day while eating my first bite (also to see which one came out on top). Safe to say, he’s perfected it, but today something about it made it 10x better, perhaps my location!
After our free time, we all gathered back together for our four hour bus ride to Madrid. Two cities in one day? We are efficient!
There are simply not enough days to experience this amazing country. I wish for the day I have the opportunity to come back. I also know the bonds we all have made with each other are indescribable. Also, thank you to the chaperones for making this a trip of a lifetime and sharing a little piece of the world with us.
Este país es más bonita que nosotros pensaríamos.
See you in a few, Madrid! Ciao, Córdoba.

Museum of the National Library of Spain | Day 2 (Part 1) | Madrid SPAIN || Tinny's ESCAPES Vlog
Date: 30th January 2018
(Day 2: Part 1)
- Video link for the Day 2 (Part 2): & (Part 3)
This is the second day of my Madrid solo trip. I woke up early in the morning to have a breakfast with my new friend, Olga, who is a lovely Portuguese girl that I met at the place I stayed and she suggested to walk me to the city centre when she was on her way to attend her art school. She is such a cool person and I like to chat with her, especially when she talked about her passion for her career as a special effect makeup artist. (Instagram: @olgafjose). We had our breakfasts at a cafe called Le Pain Quotidien and I ordered its homemade pancake & a cup of cappuccino. The cafe was quite cosy and the food is delicious. The place is decorated in rustic-chic style and the menu in the English language is provided. Besides, it sells a variety of fresh pastries and cakes with reasonable price.
After that, I walked on the street and I passed by the Museum of Romanticism (Museo Del Romanticismo) when I was on my way to the National Library of Spain. I love the buildings and architectures in the city and I couldn't move my eyes away from the sculptures of the entrance of the Museum of History of Madrid (Museo de Historia de Madrid).
Later, I entered the National Library Museum (also known as Book Museum) that is attached to the National Library of Spain The National Library of Spain (Biblioteca Nacional de España) is established by King Philip V in 1712 & located in a fascinating neoclassical building to one side of Plaza de Colón. It is the largest library in Spain, and one of the largest in the world. Other than that, it shares a roof with the National Archaeological Museum (which will be shown in the Part 2 vlog for Day 2 of the trip later). The admission is free and it is worth for a visit to learn about the library's history.

Spain's first nap bar opens in Madrid
(1 Aug 2017) LEADIN:
Weary Spaniards in Madrid now have a place to go for an afternoon siesta - a dedicated nap bar has opened in the capital.
Siesta & Go caters to people who work far from home and need a space to rest and relax during the busy working day.
STORYLINE:
As the hot afternoon sun bears down, there's nothing more Spanish than an afternoon siesta.
While smaller towns tend to shut down for a few hours in the afternoon, in the cities it's harder for people to find somewhere to lay their head.
But for those seeking solace from the sweltering summer temperatures, there's now a dedicated place for an afternoon nap in the heart of Madrid.
Siesta & Go opened in May, giving customers a quiet, cool space between 11am and 7pm every day.
People can choose from either a bunk bed, private room or an armchair to relax.
There are 19 beds available and people can pay by the minute or by the hour. It costs eight euros an hour in a bunk bed and up to 14 euros for 60 minutes in a private room.
iPads, newspapers, magazines or books are also provided on demand and and each client is given a fresh set of sheets and blankets.
Graphic designer Philip Marco uses the service several times a week.
I have always come a long way from home to my workplace. So everyday I feel tired, so siesta is a special way for me to get some energy back, he says.
He adds that a short nap keeps him refreshed for the long hours he works: I come for about 30 minutes, something like that. Sleep 30 minutes and that usually is enough for me to be able to get through the evening.
Despite Spain's well-known tradition of taking a siesta, the business idea came about after the owner visited Japan.
My boss went on a trip to Tokyo and realised that a siesta (bar) is a normal thing there. And so she wanted to implement it in Spain. And, well, what is more Spanish than the siesta, says Siesta & Go manager, Johan Grillo.
Japan is known for its capsule hotels and has many nap cafes. Many there believe getting short amounts of rest can make people better equipped for the rest of the working day.
Grillo says many Spanish professionals are also waking up to the benefits. And he says he hasn't had any problem with customers overstaying their welcome.
There are clients that say to me, 'Look, Johan, I need you to wake me in 30 minutes, 40 minutes, one hour, and I go and wake them. I always ask the customer, 'Do you need me to wake you?' If they say yes, I will go and wake them when they want. And if they say no, it's up to them.
Siesta & Go is located in the Azca neighbourhood, near the Nuevos Ministerios metro stop. It's surrounded by the offices of financial firms and large businesses, like Google, Deloitte and HSBC.
City worker Alvaro Huerta says he sees some benefit of having a siesta service.
Here in Spain, I believe a high number of people take a siesta in the middle of the day. It's true that maybe in big cities people have less and less time or it takes a long time for them to travel home to take a siesta.
Journalist, Ramon Bilbao isn't convinced it will be a popular option: In summer I'm not sure, because people work until three in the afternoon and then eat at home and take a siesta at home. In the rest of the year maybe.
It's a Spanish tradition but I think that it's more of a legend than a tradition. Because, with the lifestyle we have, the working hours, the rhythm of life of that all Spanish workers ultimately have, you have very little free time for a siesta, in my case, at least during the week, adds finance worker Carlos Villarroja.
If you get tired during the working day, many doctors say taking a short rest can be beneficial.

5 Free Things to do in Madrid
When we arrived in Madrid, we were quite exhausted after more than two months of constant travel. The temperature was sickly hot and so we decided to take it very easy as we explored the city with kids. Instead of running from attraction to attraction, we took each day as it came, enjoying sunsets from our GuestToGuest home and just going with the flow. This is exactly how we discovered a bunch of free things to do in Madrid with kids (don’t worry you can do them without kids too!).
El Retiro Park : We joked that we were going to a “Top 5 Free Things To Do in Madrid” video and for each point list a section of El Retiro Park (also known as Buen Retiro Park). We didn't, of course, but this massive park in downtown Madrid provides days of entertainment.
Free Walking Tours : As much as we love hop on, hop off bus tours when we visit a new city, pay-what-you-can walking tours are what we do when we’re on a budget and want to hear a good story.
Madrid Rio : Looking to cool down on a hot day? Then this splash pad calls your name.
Plaza Mayor : Plazas are one of my favourite spots to hangout at during our travels and the ones in Spain were fabulous!
Free Museums : As with most cities, Madrid’s museums have free days!
