Walking around Downtown St. Petersburg, Florida
St. Petersburg is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. As of the 2014 census estimate, the population was 253,693,[5] making St. Petersburg the 5th most populous city in the state of Florida and the largest city in Florida that is not a county seat (the city of Clearwater is the county seat).[6] St. Petersburg is the second largest city in the Tampa Bay Area, after Tampa, composed of roughly 2.8 million residents,[7] making it the second largest Metropolitan Statistical Area in the state. It is also a popular vacation destination for both American and foreign tourists. The city is located on a peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico and is connected to mainland Florida to the north.[8]
St. Petersburg was founded in 1888 by John C. Williams, who purchased the land, and by Peter Demens, who brought the railroad industry into the area.[9][10] As a part of a coin toss bet, the winner, Peter Demens, named the land after Saint Petersburg, Russia, while Williams opted to name the first hotel built which was named the Detroit Hotel, both named after their home towns respectively.[11] St. Petersburg was incorporated as a town on February 29, 1892 and re-incorporated as a city on June 6, 1903.[9][12]
The city is often referred to by locals as St. Pete. Neighboring St. Pete Beach formally shortened its name in 1994 after a vote by its residents. St. Petersburg is governed by a mayor and city council.[13]
With an average of some 361 days of sunshine each year, and a Guinness World Record for logging the most consecutive days of sunshine (768 days),[14][15] it is nicknamed The Sunshine City.[14] Due to its good weather and low cost of living, the city has long been a popular retirement destination, although in recent years the population has moved in a much more youthful direction.[16] American Style magazine ranked St. Petersburg its top mid-size city in 2011, citing its vibrant arts scene

The city is located on a peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. It is connected to mainland Florida to the north; with the city of Tampa to the east by causeways and bridges across Tampa Bay; and to Bradenton in the south by the Sunshine Skyway Bridge (Interstate 275), which traverses the mouth of the bay. It is also served by Interstates 175 and 375, which branch off I-275 into the southern and northern areas of downtown respectively. The Gandy Bridge, conceived by George Gandy and opened in 1924, was the first causeway to be built across Tampa Bay, connecting St. Petersburg and Tampa cities without a circuitous 43-mile (69 km) trip around the bay through Oldsmar.
With an average of some 361 days of sunshine each year, and a Guinness World Record for logging the most consecutive days of sunshine (768 days),[7][8] it is nicknamed The Sunshine City.[9] Due to its good weather and low cost of living, the city has long been a popular retirement destination, although in recent years the population has moved in a much more youthful direction.[10] American Style magazine ranked St. Petersburg its top mid-size city in 2011, citing its vibrant arts scene.[11]

SAINT PETERSBURG - Kazan Cathedral
Kazan Cathedral also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan, is a cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church on the Nevsky Prospekt. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Kazan, probably the most venerated icon in Russia.
The cathedral's interior, with its numerous columns, echoes the exterior colonnade and is reminiscent of a palatial hall, being 69 metres in length and 62 metres in height. The interior features numerous sculptures and icons created by the best Russian artists of the day.
The cathedral's huge bronze doors are one of four copies of the original doors of the Baptistery in Florence, Italy (the other three are at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, United States, at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, United States, and at the Florence Baptistery itself).

St Pete & The Burg: A City Divided - Documentary
Gentrification is happening in many cities across the United States. It’s a process that focuses on renovating lower-income urban neighborhoods which simultaneously changes the culture of the area. Ultimately, property value and rent increases, wealthier people move in and local residents become displaced.
In St. Petersburg Florida, history has proven that gentrification is a systemic issue that does very little to include and consider the predominantly African American residents of the south side. St. Pete & The Burg: A City Divided tells the history of St. Petersburg which puts into perspective the gentrification issues that began in the 80’s and 90’s with the demolition of the Gas Plant neighborhood and the Jordan Park village. Not only are those areas facing the same issues today, but illegal acts of robo-signing to foreclose on mortgages without people’s consent is also contributing to gentrification. In St. Petersburg, community members are mobilizing and fighting the system on different fronts.
This is an ongoing project. Part two will go in depth to explain the affordable housing issue as it pertains to the area.

Vinoy Renaissance Hotel - Review - St. Petersburg, FL
The Vinoy Renaissance Hotel overlooks both Tampa Bay and a scenic marina. The Vinoy, a historic boutique hotel, is located at 501 5th Avenue NE in St. Petersburg, Florida. The staff are well-trained, attentive, and friendly. The Vinoy was lovingly restored to the high standards of when it was originally built in 1925. Close to the Salvador Dali Museum, Central Shopping District and a charming park, the Vinoy has a lot to offer. The golf course, however, is off-site. The Vinoy attracts both business conference travelers and tourists. Try Marchand's Bar and Grill, with a stunning interior, and a dreamy Gatsbyesque veranda bar for liquid refreshments. The hotel grounds and landscaping are top-notch. The Vinoy Renaissance Hotel is about 20 minutes from St. Petersburg Beach and about 40 minutes from the beaches of Anna Maria Island. Parking is limited, but the valet service is okay. Visit Telephone : 727-894-1000.
Our Spring Break Staycation on St. Pete Beach, Florida!
Check out our condo tour here:
In today's vlog, we have a spring break staycation on St. Pete Beach, Florida. St. Pete Beach was selected by TripAdvisor as one of the top five beaches in the United States in 2019. We stayed at a condo on the beach for a few days. The condo had a stunning view of the Gulf of Mexico, as seen from St. Pete Beach. Although the water was too cold for us, we still enjoyed several long walks on the beach and sunsets.
On one of our walks along St. Pete Beach we saw sandpipers running and retreating from the waves. Walking along St. Pete Beach provided a great vantage point of the Don CeSar. It was a great start to Sunday with breakfast at The Sea Turtle Restaurant. We had corned beef hash, eggs, Irish bacon, and home fries. For dinner one night, we went to Blue Fugu, a hibachi restaurant near the condo. We got shrimp and steak hibachi. Blue Fugu has an early bird special, so get there early for a good deal!
Before watching the sunset on St. Pete Beach one night, we tossed the football around. We also saw some people fishing from the shore using a drone!
Thanks for joining us on our spring break staycation on St. Pete Beach, Florida!
