shimba hills The Shimba Hills National Reserve is a small National Reserve in the Coast Province of Kenya, 33 km from Mombasa and 15 km from the coast. The reserve is an area of coastal rainforest, woodland and grassland. It is an important area for plant biodiversity – over 50% of the 159 rare plants in Kenya are found in the Shimba Hills, including some endangered species of cycad and orchids. It is also a nationally important site for birds and butterflies.
Dolphins
Dolphin families have lived in Watamu's Protected Park and Reserve in Kenya for as long as people can remember. Come visit them in their Indian ocean home.
Welcome to the Watamu world of dolphins. Boat Operators have been taking guests to visit our residential dolphins in the Watamu Marine Park and Reserve.
Watamu Marine Association have been studying these highly intelligent marine mammals since 2010, and have so far found that over 100 different animals inhabit this area, many of them mothers and young calves.
There are three species of dolphin that you can see in Watamu; the Indo Pacific Bottlenose dolphin, the rare Indo Pacific Humpback dolphin and the off shore acrobats the Spinner dolphins. Whoever you see please enjoy them naturally but do remain in the boat. Our dolphins are wild and have over 100 teeth!

During my trip to Mombasa, we took a day trip to Malindi with the crew from Coast Camping ( They offer off the beaten path tours around Mombasa and coastal Kenya. In this video, I didn’t pay for the tour, but I did pay for most of the food we ate on this tour. Thank you to Coast Camping for hosting me, and for being so cool!
We first drove from Mombasa to Malindi, and before doing anything else, we stopped for a local breakfast. I enjoyed some mbaazi, which are pigeon peas in coconut milk, and a delicious Kenyan goat soup. Breakfast was excellent, and the perfect way to begin the day.
One of the signature trips that Coast Camping takes is to the Malindi marine park to a sand bar, to go swimming and to bbq lobster on the sand bar. Unfortunately when we got there, the tide didn’t cooperate with us, so it was too high to get out on the sand bar, but the water was still incredibly beautiful and pristine - we just couldn’t bbq there. So we continued to the shore where they set up the grill and we grilled fish and lobster in on the beach with the incredible Indian Ocean sea breeze. We ate on the boat. The food was delicious, and I especially enjoyed the rice with prawns curry that was pre-cooked. Lobster and moon fish was also excellent!
Halwa Asli - Back in Malindi town, one of the must eat foods halwa, a sweet that common throughout Arabia and India. This version was made with starch and sugar, and then cooked and simmered until it turned into a sticky paste. It was very sweet, but a few bites were great.
We also stopped for one of the best Kenyan street food dishes to eat - a mix of bhajias and fried things, topped in chutney, with signature Malindi cassava and mango sauce.
Vipingo Nyama Choma Mishkaki - On our way back driving from Malindi to Mombasa we stopped to eat mishkaki at a legendary meat spot. The meat was so good, especially when dipped in the kachumbari of tomatoes, onions, and chili sauce.
Price - 2,000 KES ($19.65) for everyone
It was an incredible day on the coast of Kenya, beautiful scenery, and incredible Kenyan food! Again, huge thank you to Coast Camping Tours & Safaris:

Dolphins Tour Wasini Island marine park - Kenya South Coast | Award Safaris |
Kisite Marine park in #Kenya south coast known as Home of Dolphins lies in the beautiful coral gardens south of Wasini Island. It encompasses three small coral rag forest islands, each with considerable areas of fringing reef. It is one of the most rewarding locations for #Snorkeling.
MARINE LIFE: Comprises of about 250 recorded fish species, 70 resident dolphins and over 140 catalogued individuals, sea turtles, whales, 56 genera of corals, sea grass and gastropods.
Many sea birds in large nestling colonies and internationally significant numbers of roseate terns and crab- plover.
The enchanting island has numerous attractions:
- Underwater kingdom - unbelievable world of color and vibrancy. A realm of living coral gardens, sculpted islands, wheeling seabirds and sparkling clear waters.
- Turtle Territory - Green and Hawksbill turtles normally spotted in their hang out.
- Dolphin and Whale spotting - Sanctuary to over 200 dolphins which can be encountered as single individuals or in pods of 2-25 individuals breaking above waves
- Kisite Island, Realm of seabirds - An important Bird Area.
- Kenyan Barrier Reef - the pristine, well developed coral barrier reef extends all the way from Shimoni in the South to Malindi in the North, without significant break, except at the mouths of rivers. The coral reefs referred to as the rain forests of the sea, are some of the most fascinating world's ecosystem.
What to do in Kenya. Sailing to the island is simply a magicalkenya moment where you swim with the dolphins
Take time to go underwater and see the corals in the reef tank

Is this the Best Place to Eat in Nairobi?
When researching where to eat in Nairobi, Carnivore was always at or near the top of every list. I've never been one to pass on all-you-can-eat meat, I knew I had to go. After a day of walking the streets of Nairobi, we worked up enough of an appetite to take on 7 species of animals.
