The water museum in the dungeon of the ancient water tower
The most unique water Museum of Ukraine is located in the dungeon of old water tower. It was the main water tower of Kyiv, more than 140 years ago! It consisted of two water towers 20 meters high and an underground tank with a capacity 110 thousand buckets! This 1 million. 350 thousand. Liters!
The author of this masterpiece was a military engineer Amand Struve. Although the name of this genius is known not every resident of Kiev, but it was he who created the first railroad bridge across the Dnieper, the first electric tram in the Russian Empire and gas street lighting.
This is not only a museum, but also a technical exhibition and even almost waterpark!
Only here you can see a giant toilet bowl, go inside the bubble, can I change the river bed and cause the lightning to thunder!
This is the place where the exhibition, items are not hidden from the visitors behind a glass wall, and vice versa - are open to experiment! Here you can play with live fish, to create giant soap bubbles and personally test the strength of all units!

Guided Tours, Excursions, Transfers in Ukraine and Crimea.
Führerhauptquartier Werwolf was the codename of one of Adolf Hitler's WW2 Eastern Front military headquarters. It was located in an oak forest about 12 kilometers (7.5 mi) north of Vinnytsya in Central Ukraine. It was used in 1942-1943. It was one of a number of Führer Headquarters throughout Europe, and the most easterly ever used by Hitler in person. As we know, he used it 3 times. In 1942 he spent here about 100 days.
Hitler's accommodation at Werwolf consisted of a wooden house (cottage), a private courtyard and its own concrete bunker. The rest of the complex consisted of about 20 wooden cottages and barracks, and several conсrete bunkers (for guests, Nazi leaders, security). As we know, there was a tea house, a barber shop, a bathhouse, a sauna, a cinema and even an open water pool. Hitler never once swam in it (according to other information it was for the fire safety). Also was a vegetable garden under the control of the German agricultural company Zeidenspiner (for a secure supply of food for Hitler). Two artesian wells supplied the site with water, and the site had its own power generation facilities (according to other information the water was pumped from South Bug river).
As we know, just on several hundred meters from Hitler`s personal cottage on the agriculture field, was constructed the special airfield for very small personal Hitler`s airplane (for his fast evacuation if necessary to the nearest German military air base in Kalynivka town, about 20 km).
The special underground phone and telegraph cable was laid to that town.
Kiev Pechersk Lavra Caves Monastery in Kiev Ukraine new
Kiev-Pechersk Lavra - Caves Monastery in Kiev, Ukraine
Kiev Pechersk Lavra, also known as the Kiev Monastery of the Caves, is a historic Orthodox Christian monastery which gave its name to one of the city districts where it is located in Kiev.
An important symbol of Kiev and number one travel attraction of the Ukrainian capital, Pechersk Lavra Cave Monastery is a must-visit place in Ukraine. The foundation of Kiev monastery of caves dates back far to the 11th century, when the monk Anthony and his disciple Theodosius settled in the caves on the high Dnieper hills ad established a monastery. It has been a cradle of East Orthodox Christianity ever since. In 1990, Kiev Lavra was included on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Nowadays, Kiev Lavra consists of two parts – the territory of the monastery that includes the Far Caves and the Near Caves, and the Upper territory that belongs to the National Historical and Cultural Reserve Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. If you’re visiting Kiev, be sure to include Pechersk Lavra Cave Monastery on your bucket list, and here is a short guide of the most significant landmarks of the Monastery for you not to miss.
The Lower Territory or the Pechersk-Lavra Cave Monastery
Orthodox male monastery occupies the lower territory of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and consists of complex of Far and Near Caves, where the relics of the saints are kept. The caves are opened for the pilgrims and tourists daily, except to some religious holidays, from 9am till 3:30 pm in winter time and from 8:30am till 4:30pm in summer time. The dress code for visiting the Kiev Monastery of the Caves include long-sleeved cloths for men and women, no shorts nor are short skirts allowed. Women should also cover their head with a scarf or a kerchief.
The Far Caves
It was a place where Saint Anthony settled in 1051. Soon after more monks joined him in the monastery, the new cells appeared in underground labyrinths. Today the length of the Far Caves is approx. 290 meters and the relics of 49 saints are kept there. The underground Church of Saint Theodosius located there.
The Near Caves
In 1057, Saint Anthony moved to these caves, looking for a more solitary live, and thus laid the foundation of the Near Caves complex that bear his name. The 383-meter long Near Caves lie at the depth of 10-15 meters and include the underground Church of the Entry of the Holy Virgin, the St. Anthony Church and St. Varlaam Church. Among the 73 relics of the saints kept in the Near Caves, one can name Nestor the Chronicler, venerable doctor Agapi and Ilya Muromets.
Anthony’s and Theodosius’s Wells
According to the legends, the St. Anthony and St. Theodosius, thus named in their honor, dug these wells. The water is believed to have a healing properties and cure from diseases. The wells are located not far from the entrance to the Near Caves.
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin
Built in the 17th century in Baroque style, this Church is located near the Far Caves. The interior of church is decorated by the contemporary Ukrainian artists. This Church is a part of Kiev Theological Academy and Seminary.
The Church of the Exaltation of Holly Cross
It was established on the place of an old wooden church in far 1700. The church is well known by its unique southern entrance’s decoration with molded garlands, popular decorative folk art’s elements of the 17th century. It is located at the square at the Near Caves.

An imposing building of the bell tower is a highlight of the Lavra complex. Built in 18th century, the Great Lavra Bell tower is 96,5-meter tall and if you climb 374 steps you may observe a splendid bird’s eye view of the city. It is an architectural masterpiece and one of the symbols of Kiev.

UNESCO Lavras: Monastery of The Caves, Kiev
Kiev Pechersk Lavras (a monastery and only the most important monasteries were Lavras) was founded in 1077 by St. Antony. The underground caves were dug out by priests who lived there as hermits. Pilgrims now visit the underground caves to venerate the mummified monks.
The Orthodox, and deeply religious Ukranians, stood in a long line with the Viking groups, waiting their chance to buy candles used to light the way through the dark labyrinth. Unless you are on a religious pilgrimage, I advise foregoing this experience.
The underground tunnels are narrow, dark, and claustrophobic; pilgrims slowly shuffle along, pausing at each coffin in niches on both sides of the corridor to genuflect, say a prayer and kiss the mummified monk's coffin before moving along. All traffic behind them comes to a half before they move a few feet to the next coffin while tunnels lead in all directions. (Try to stay in the main tunnel or they may find your mummified remains...eventually.)
Photographs are not allowed, priests stand in spots along the corridor moving people along (one made Steve put out his headlight...candles only are allowed inside which do absolutely no good...), and it is difficult to pass a pilgrim in the dark.
Not the most wonderful experience! Now that you know, decide for yourself since this tour is included by Viking.

The Kiev funicular ( Київський фунікулер; Киевский фуникулёр) Kiev 2015
The funicular was constructed during 1902-1905, and was first opened to the public on 20 May [O.S. 7 May] 1905. The construction cost, about 230,000 Russian rubles, was covered by a Belgian owner of the Kiev trams. The funicular was the project of Arthur Abrahamson, who received professional training on railroad engineering in Zürich, Switzerland and Saint Petersburg, Russia. The station vestibules were initially developed by N. Piatnitskiy, and the railway structure was designed by N. Barishnikov.
Due to its proximity to the St. Michael's Cathedral, it was once named the Mykhailivskyi Mekhanichnyi Pidyom (Ukrainian: Михайлівський механічний підйом, literally St. Michael's Mechanical Lift). After the cathedral was destroyed by the Soviet authorities in 1935-1936, the name of the funicular was changed.
In 1984 the lower station changed its outlook. It was redeveloped by architects Janos Vig, Valentine Yezhov, and others.
Various facts[edit]
The funicular uses the two rail and passing-loop system. The two cars are designated with the Cyrillic letters Λ and П which stand for left and right. The funicular was renovated three times: in 1928, 1958, and 1984.
Track gauge: 1,200 mm (3 ft 11 1⁄4 in). Total track length: 238 meters (781 ft). The total gradient of the slope on which the funicular runs on is 36%. The cable cars are powered by an electric motor which is located inside the upper station.
The travel time between the stations is approximately 3 minutes. The route is from the Mykhailivska Square in the Uptown to the Poshtova Square in the Podil. The ticket price is much like for the other city-owned public transportation methods, 3 Hryvnias (approx. 0.15 US Dollars - as of May 2015). The funicular provides daily service to 10,000-15,000 passengers, and annually to 2.8 million passengers.[1]
The funicular was closed on September 25, 2006 for restoration, which is usually conducted every year.[2] The total cost of the restoration was expected to be 455,400 hryvnias (about 90,500 US dollars). The funicular is operated by Kievpastrans.

I really liked it. It was a lot of fun. I've been trying for a while to buck up courage to do something like this because I'm not a person who likes these type of extreme activities. I think that for those who have long wanted to take a parachute jump but not found the courage to do it this would be the perfect way of taking a first step in this sport as well as getting a very different view of Kiev

We call the Kiev ropeway the Trolley. Whoever takes the trolley becomes bolder. Whoever is afraid the first time is not afraid the second time because they know they have nothing to fear. It's a gentle, smoothly and careful ride. They ride at a speed of up to 60 km/h until the middle and then the speed decreases smoothly until the finish. There the instructor will unclip you and you take the stairs down to the street.

The Kiev metro is very similar to the metro in Moscow and St. Petersburg. But there are large areas in Kiev not serviced by the metro. Kiev is also serviced by buses, minibuses, trolleybuses, trams and taxis.
The least expensive way to get to Kiev center from the airport is via bus. There are also minibuses that serve the airport. And, of course, taxis. If you have reserved an apartment or hotel, they might also provide transportation between their apartment or hotel and the airport, usually for a fee.
Approximately 2 million people visit Kiev each year. This is a significant increase in tourism since Ukraine introduced a visa-free regime for EU-member states and USA.

10. Gulliver’s Kingdom, Japan
The Japanese are really something when it comes to business ideas. In 1997, they wanted to open an amusement park based on the famous novel by Jonathan Swift “Gulliver’s Travels”, because who doesn’t want to pretend they are in an 18th century English novel?? Apparently not enough people because the park closed down just 4 years later. I mean it’s not really that trendy when you have Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Jurassic Park.
9. Spreepark, Berlin
This place was first opened in 1969 under the name of Kulturpark Plänterwald, in what was then East Berlin. After the fall of the Berlin wall, in 1989, the park was renamed to Spreepark, because it was built right next to the Spree river. It was quite an attraction because, for years, it was the only amusement park in East Germany.
8. L’Aquatic Paradis, Spain
This water park was built in Sitges near the city of Barcelona but, unfortunately, it didn’t stay open for long. From the very start, L’Aquatic Paradis was faced with a myriad of problems. It had tons of slides and pools and people were excited about it, but two years after opening there was a tragic accident and then massive debt issues….sound familiar?
7. Akvadroma Water Park, Russia
This complex, also known as the Indoor Complex near Moscow was approved for construction in 1997 – the idea was to have a huge center for the upcoming World Youth Games. It was an enormous undertaking, as it took over an area of 43,000 square meters (468,000 sq. feet), with 9 floors complete with swimming pools, water slides, track and field course, offices, and medical center.
6. Lake Dolores, USA
This waterpark was the first ever in the United States. It used to be a popular desert attraction but now it is abandoned in the middle of the Mojave Desert, California. It was known as Lake Dolores or Rock-A-Hoola Waterpark, back in the day. The name Dolores actually comes from the name of the person who built it.
5. Dunaújváros Vidámpark, Hungary
This Hungarian park was very popular back in the day – the beginnings of this park go back to the 19th century! While it was severely damaged during WWII, in the 60s and 70s, the place was booming because so many people wanted to go! It was fixed up to look like an “English Park” in 1952, but it became even more popular after the Hungarian revolution 4 years later.
4. Holy Land, USA
This attraction located in Waterbury, Connecticut was full of religious exhibits and bible studies for the whole family! It was big for around 30 years and attracted about 40,000 people a year to be exact.
3. Joyland, Wichita, USA
This amusement park was started by the Ottaway family during the economic boom in Wichita. Lester Ottaway bought a steam locomotive in 1933, and wanted to build something around it, so ergo we have Joyland!!
People used to come mostly in the evenings to cool off and enjoy every one’s company, especially since there was no TV!
2. Takakanonuma Greenland, Japan
Don’t let the name confuse you- this place is not in Greenland, but Japan! This amusement park was opened back in 1973, but it was closed only two years later. I’m not exactly sure what happened, but official sources said that there just weren’t enough ticket sales. Which means that the Japanese didn’t do a proper market analysis, which doesn’t sound like them at all!!
1. Pripyat Amusement Park, Ukraine
This amusement park really didn’t have any luck. It was opened in in the town of Pripyat, north of Kiev, but it didn’t last long. In fact, it lasted for less than one day! Yes, strange as it may sound, this amusement park was closed less than 24 hours after being opened to the public.

The Motherland is Calling....A Russian WWII Memorial
The 'Motherland Calls' (Russian: Родина-мать зовёт! Rodina-Mat' zovyot!), is also called 'Mother Motherland', 'Mother Motherland Is Calling', 'The Motherland', or 'The Mamayev Monument'. It is a statue in Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd, (formerly Stalingrad) Russia, and commemorates the Battle of Stalingrad.
The figure itself measures 52 metres (170 feet) tall, with the sword being 33 metres (108 feet). Two hundred steps, symbolizing the 200 days of the Battle of Stalingrad, (from July 17, 1942, through February 2, 1943) lead from the bottom of the hill to the monument.
We're talking BIG statuary! The slide show identifies specific statues' heights.
Mother Russia is located at the top of Mamayev Kurgan, where she is the main monument of a memorial complex to those Soviets who fell in World War II. She represents the Motherland, or Russia. The statue appears on both the current flag and coat of arms of Volgograd Oblast.
Made from concrete and steel, it took 3 years for the statue to be completed. She was officially dedicated on Oct. 15, 1967.
The lead sculptor was Yevgeny Vuchetich. The significant structural engineering challenges of the 7,900 tons (7,800 long tons; 8,700 short tons) of the concrete sculpture were handled by Nikolai Nikitin.
The Hall of Military Glory is a round building at the foot of the Mamayev Kurgan Memorial complex and contains an eternal flame, with walls of names of the dead. It is guarded by a soldier who stands at attention. The changing of the Guard occurs every hour and is quite a spectacle that involves high goose stepping Honor Guards. The total square footage of the memorial complex is sixty-five thousand square meters.
As I understand it, a visitor enters the complex past the 'Singing Walls' then enters the Hall of Honor. From there walks the 'Square of Grief' and then along the Reflection pool via 'Lenin Avenue' On the right side of the Avenue are the huge sculptures of 'Heroes of the Battle'. From there, one passes a smaller pool and the sculpture of 'Fight to the Death'. Then the climbing of the 200 steps which are at least partially lined with wall scenes of the Battle and finally arrives at the Mamayev Kurgan...Motherland Calls.
In May 2009 it was reported that rising water levels had caused the monument's foundations to sink and that the statue is leaning to such a degree that it is feared it will fall over. The leaning is rapidly getting worse. The statue is not fixed to its foundations and is held in place only by its weight. It has moved about 8 inches and is not expected to be able to move much farther without collapsing. While local authorities deny that the statue is in danger, conservation and restoration works started in 2010.
This has been an exceptionally difficult topic to research. While pictures are plentiful, descriptions in English are not. Many of the articles I found were in Russian or had been translated by someone who was not fluent in English. In addition, I found almost every statue, every memorial, every building and walkway had several names which made it difficult to keep track of exactly what was where, etc.
Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoy this slide show. Please be sure to check my other shows and tell your friends about my NiNaWavs2U channel on Youtube.
I do not hold a copyright on either the pictures or the music used in this slide show.
Be well!

Synevyr Lake, Ukraine
Lake Synevyr is the largest lake in the Carpathian Mountains of Ukraine. Scientists estimate that the lake formed about ten thousand years ago.
The water level in the basin constantly changes: it increases during rain showers and intensive snow thaw, and decreases during winter and the dry season. As a result, the lake's water level fluctuates by 4 to 4.5 meters, its area varies between 4.5 and 7.5 ha, and its maximum depth varies between 18 and 23.5 meters.

Russia's Aid Convoy Must be Cleared by Ukrainian Authorities
The European Union said on Tuesday (August 12) that a Russian convoy of 280 trucks transporting humanitarian aid to Ukraine will need to be cleared by Ukrainian authorities. The convoy carrying food, water and other aid set off on Tuesday for eastern Ukraine, where government forces are closing in on pro-Russian rebels, but Kiev said it would not allow the vehicles to cross onto its territory.
