Watford is a town and borough in Hertfordshire, England, situated 17 miles northwest of central London and inside the circumference of the M25 motorway. It is not to be confused with Watford, Northamptonshire which is 55 miles to the north.
Watford developed on the River Colne on land belonging to St Albans Abbey until the 16th century. During the 12th century a charter was granted allowing a market and building St Mary's Church began. The town grew modestly, assisted by travellers passing through to Berkhamsted Castle and the royal palace at Kings Langley. A big house was built at Cassiobury in the 16th century. This was partly rebuilt in the 17th century and another substantial house was built nearby at The Grove. Connections with the Grand Junction Canal (from 1798) and the London and Birmingham Railway (from 1837) allowed the town to grow more rapidly, with paper-making mills, such as John Dickinson and Co. at Croxley, influencing the development of printing in the town which continues today. Two brewers Benskins and Sedgwicks flourished in the town until their closure in the late 20th century. Hertfordshire County Council designates Watford, along with Stevenage, to be its major sub-regional centre. Several head offices are based in Watford. Both the 2006 World Golf Championship and the 2013 Bilderberg Conference took place at The Grove.
Watford was created as an urban district under the Local Government Act 1894, and became a municipal borough by grant of a charter in 1922. The borough had 90,301 inhabitants at the time of the 2011 census. The borough is separated from Greater London to the south by the parish of Watford Rural in the Three Rivers District. Watford Borough Council is the local authority with the Mayor of Watford as its head; one of only 18 directly elected mayors in England and Wales. Dorothy Thornhill has been the mayor since the directly elected system was set up in May 2002 and is both the first Liberal Democrat and the first female directly elected mayor in the United Kingdom. Watford elects one Member of Parliament (MP) for the Watford constituency. Prior to the establishment of this constituency in 1885 the area was part of the three-seat constituency of Hertfordshire.
Watford is close to the orbital M25 and the M1 which links London to the Midlands and the North. Watford is served by buses which link it to the wider surrounding area. Central Watford is served by 3 railway stations and a Tube station. One of the principal National Rail north-south rail routes, the West Coast Main Line, passes through Watford. Watford is on the main Grand Union Canal route northwards from London. There is little commercial use, since the advent of the motorways, but the canal is used for recreational purposes. The River Gade and the River Colne flow through Watford.

WATFORD TOWN IN THE 1920s
We are fortunate to have as part of our local history this unique piece of film taken of Watford town centre in Hertfordshire, England.
It starts with Watford high street, then moves onto the local Benskins brewery. The final scenes show the Peace Hospice and a visit by Edward VIII. We believe the date is around 1924.
It was transferred for a local museum as part of a larger consignment of film material covering over fifty years of local history.
These are some examples of customers cine to DVD transfers we have chosen to show on YouTube with their permission.
We are Bluprint Cine Transfers and if you are looking for a more convenient way of viewing your cine films, we offer a number of services and options.

The Harry Potter Studio Tour - Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - FULL EXPERIENCE
The Making of Harry Potter
A Full tour around the Warner Bros. Studio Tour -- The making of Harry Potter at Leavesden Studios outside London.
On this tour I walk around all the sets beginning with the Great Hall including its costumes of Hogwarts students, two large tables which are set for dinner; the teachers' table where the Hogwarts Professors sat and statues featuring their costumes can be seen there.
It then follows the tour through the interior sets such as the iconic Potions Classroom, Gryffindor Common Room, DumbleDore's Office, Ministry of Magic fireplaces, Defence against the Dark Arts Classroom, The Burrow, Hagrid's Hut and many props such as the Goblet of Fire, Wands, Time Turner, Memory Cabinet, Broom Sticks, etc. In fact you name it and it is here.
Exterior sets such as number four, Privet Drive, Hogwarts Bridge, the Riddle family grave and the triple-decker purple Knight Bus are showcased in the Studio Tour's backlot -- it's also one of two places in the world where you can buy Butterbeer!
Then it is on to the more behind the scenes areas such
as the Creature Shop, Diagon Alley and the Model Room with its impressive scale model of Hogwarts before finally ending in the Studio Gift Shop.
The Harry Potter film series made Leavesden its home for more than ten years. As the books were still being released while the films were being made, the production crew saved many of the iconic sets, props and costumes that were created especially for the films - just in case they were ever needed later on in the series.
Once filming wrapped on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 in 2010, the production crew were left with a treasure trove of thousands of intricate and beautifully-made artefacts, many of which wouldn't have been saved on a typical production.
The team behind Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter wanted to preserve and showcase these iconic props, costumes and sets so that Harry Potter fans could experience the magic of filmmaking first-hand. Many of the original cast and crew returned to reassemble the sets and record their memories from filming, and on 31st March 2012, the Studio Tour opened its doors.
Set adjacent to the working film studios where all eight Harry Potter films were made, the Studio Tour offers visitors the unique opportunity to explore two soundstages and a backlot filled with original sets, animatronic creatures and breathtaking special effects.

WATFORD MINIATURE RAILWAY Cassiobury Park Watford August 2019
Sunday 18th August 2019
On our way home from the first open day for the One:One collection in Margate (link below) we stopped off in Watford to take a look at the 60 year old miniature Railway operating in Cassiobury Park.
Adjacent to both a new children's play area and the river Gade the 10¼” gauge railway runs through a fenced off wooded area with the full trip lasting around 6 minutes.
There is just the one station and the journey is non-stop. Features include a manually operated level crossing and turntable and you do get to pass the engine sheds twice where you might be able to see more locomotives than the ones running during your visit.
We would like to thank everyone on the railway for being so helpful during our visit and for allowing us access to the engine sheds.
We would recommend both the park and the railway for a great family day out.
Please take a look at the railway's website for lots more information on the history of the railway including the rolling stock.

Our favourite part of the tour has to be the Forbidden Forest. We loved the walk up to it, and it set the scene incredibly well. There was wind, fog, thunder and lightning, and of course I can’t forget the giant spiders. This was just one example of how well detailed and designed the studios were! We also really liked going inside Harry’s house on Privet Drive, to see it in real life was just another pinch yourself moment!
Another big highlight of the tour for us was the amazing scaled set of Hogwarts near the end, it was just breathtaking! The section on how everything was designed was super interesting too, and of course Platform 9¾ where you actually got to go on the Hogwarts Express!
We also got to taste Butterbeer! And spent far too long wandering around the gift shop. We really had the most amazing day at the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London.
