-- About this video --
Today we are trying some new hiking trails near Queenstown that not many people will have heard of. We’re checking out a place called Welcome Rock!
Welcome Rock is one hour south of Queenstown and near the Southland towns of Lumsden and Garston. We meet the owner of the Welcome Rock Trails who gives us a bit of a tour of the Welcome Rock Trails which starts with a drive up the Nevis Road.
We start our Southland hiking adventure at the historic ski hut on this 27km network of trails taking about 6-8 hours to complete by hiking. The open sub-alpine landscape is unlike anything we have hiked in in New Zealadn so far. The Welcome Rock Trails has some hidden gems, such as a hidden bottle of whisky at Welcome Rock itself.
There are lots of unique accommodations along the way too such as the Slate Hut with a bathtub outside with the most amazing views. If you are looking for somewhere to hike in Southland, then Welcome Rock is a unique and different option.
If you wanted a day trip from Queenstown then this is one of the things to do in Queenstown.
So what do you think of the Welcome Rock Trails in Southland? Would you take the trip from Queenstown to check these hiking trails out? LUK in the comments.

A bucket list ride ever after seeing Follow Me. Hit this line after climbing up to hit rude rock into pack sack and pack track and sack, then climbing back up to shred this, well worth the ups!
