Vertical-lift bridge over Welland Canal
This Vertical-lift bridge (Bridge 21), located near downtown Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada, is the southernmost bridge on the Welland Canal (connecting Lake Erie and Lake Ontario), and is one of only four remaining vertical-lift road bridges over the Welland Canal.

1925 Building 4th Welland Canal 28mm film - broadcast by TVO 1988
1925 - The construction of the 4th Welland Canal film
This is - well there is no worthy word for it - it is AMAZING
Originally a 28mm 1925 film called the Welland Shipping Canal produced by the Ontario Motion Picture Bureau, it was later saved from extinction by the Library Archives of Canada who eventually transferred it to various formats, 35mm, 16mm, VHS, and DVD I think.
The copyright on it expired in 1975 and Canada's # 2 public broadcaster, TVO, acquired a copy and produced a short with narration in 1979, which it last broadcast in 1988, perhaps that was the only time it broadcast their narrated version.
At some point TVO added it to their internet online Public Archives for free viewing, under their news shorts list.
I've been trying to find this film for many months to include in the collection of Old Films of Canada's Niagara Region, which can be seen in this channel's playlists.
Marty Irving told me somebody 'shared' the TVO link to a local history Facebook page, and I finally got hold of that link earlier today.

Blizzard of '77 Operation Antifreeze CJRN 710 radio
This is a recording of about 90 minutes of Operation Antifreeze from January 31, 1977. It was on a recently rediscovered cassette tape that a 10-year-old Fort Erie boy had recorded that day.
Operation Antifreeze was radio station CJRN's effort to keep residents of the Niagara Peninsula informed about the natural disaster that was the Blizzard of '77 and coordinate help for those who were trapped in their homes.
The blizzard hit the Niagara-Buffalo area the morning of Friday, January 28, 1977.
This recording was made three days later, in the afternoon of the following Monday, more than 72 hours after the storm started. Visibility was still near zero at times due to 50 mph winds and continued blowing snow, temperatures were still around 0F and some areas were still cut off as plows had not made it down many major roads, let alone the side streets.

Princess Elizabeth Students Hear Important Safety Message
It’s National Rail Safety Week! With students across Windsor making their way to and from class each day, it’s a great time for Cris Cross, the ambassador of Windsor’s Train Safety Campaign to remind them about being safe around trains and train tracks. That message was shared today with the students of Princess Elizabeth Public School. The students watched a video featuring Cris Cross and heard from members of the Canadian Pacific Rail Police.
Cris Cross is the centrepiece of a two-year education campaign from the City of Windsor and Transport Canada about train safety, primarily aimed at elementary aged youth and young teens. The campaign is well into its second year with the goal of increasing awareness around train safety and the dangers of playing near tracks or trespassing on rail property.
Funding for the public awareness campaign comes from a Transport Canada grant and matching funds from the City of Windsor.
