Skyline Walkway - Wellington, New Zealand | Hiking the Windiest Trail
The Skyline Walkway is a ridge-line trail on the outskirts of New Zealand's capital city, Wellington. It is very exposed and was extremely windy when my sister and I hiked it. The views are spectacular. We could see the suburbs of Johnsonville, Khandallah, Ngaio, Wilton and Karori. In the distance we could see rolling hills, wind turbines and across Cook Strait, even see the Kaikoura Ranges of the South Island.
Along the trail we encountered sheep, rabbits and cows. We began the hike at Old Coach Road, climbed up to Mount Kaukau and followed the ridge-line past Johnson Hill, finishing at Makara Peak.

New Zealand vlog!
Come with us as we take you for a walk on the wainui hill through the jungle gym track. It was a little windy on that day but nonetheless it was such a nice tramp. The track was sheltered by the trees very good on a hot day. We really enjoy this track.

Mountain Biking Wellington - Makara Peak
Mountain Biking at Wellington’s Makara Peak – a mountain bike park with a massive variety of tracks from flow to woah!
Rosara Joseph, Kieran Bennett and Craig Pattle get a taste of Makara Peak’s bounty – these renowned kiwi riders pounded up the hill many times and ripped down some of the more challenging tracks to create this visual spectacle. But don’t be scared! There is a large network of trails which have been hand-crafted by the local community. The trails cater for a wide range of abilities and there is plenty of honest hill and beautiful flowing downhills to satisfy everyone.
Visit for more videos, mobile maps and track info for every type of rider.
Rosara started riding bikes while studying law in Christchurch. Initially drawn to the up-hills part of mountain biking, she spent 8 years on the international cross country mountain bike circuit – she was riding in circles in beautiful places around the world! A highlight of her XC racing career was performing an impressive front flip over the bars in the 2008 Beijing Olympics XC race. Then she discovered the fun of proper bikes and going downhill, and spent a couple years racing Enduro races in the big mountains. She now lives and works in Squamish, BC and still loves riding bikes.
Kieran has spent most of his life on two wheels while growing up in Nelson. Starting out on motorbikes and BMX's before finding a passion for mountain biking, mostly of the downhill variety. This eventually led to several years racing in Europe and the USA on the World Cup downhill circuit. These days he resides in Christchurch working as the foreman of a sheetmetal company while still racing Enduro and downhill races throughout New Zealand.
Craig Pattle was born and bred in Rotorua. He started racing bikes when was 12, and went on to pick up national titles as a junior. In 2003, he headed to Europe to try his luck on the pro circuit. While a short stint in BMX racing side-tracked him for a while, his love for the forest and mountain bikes ultimately won. These days you can find Craig on a trail struggling up hills and flowing through the trees – just being out on his bike, doing what he loves.

34 Km adventure walk, Wellington NZ
In short I was bored (amongst other things) so headed off on a day long walk to gather my thoughts so to speak. Planned on following the coastline all the way but tide and fatigue drove me inland back to the start point...which ironically was nearly the same distance as doing the intended route, but was safer given I was new to the area. The steep beach is the Cook Straight separating the North and South Islands. Where you see the dark jagged rocks in the distance, I was forced up the hill on the left...450 vertical metres in about as many horizontal...

Wellington, New Zealand
So iv'e been in New Zealand for about a month. This video is just a montage of some of the city, trails and sights that I've come across in the month. I'll be here for at least another 11 months. In between then, I hope to make some interesting videos!
Breaker Bay, Wellington City, New Zealand.
Breaker Bay is a suburb on the south east coast of Wellington City in New Zealand, on the Miramar Peninsula. The suburb contains a 600 m wide bay of the same name, and is part of the western shore of the Wellington Harbour entrance. The Eastern Walkway runs along the top of the Bay and has views of the area.
The entrance to the harbour can be quite dangerous, especially since Cook Strait to the south is notoriously rough. Close to the harbour's entrance lies Barrett Reef, its rocks breaking the water's surface at low tide. It was here in 1968 that the inter-island passenger ferry Wahine grounded during a storm, with the loss of 51 lives.
That cluster of rocks that is Barrett Reef (often known as Barrett's Reef) is one of the most hazardous reefs in New Zealand.
It lies on the western side of the entrance of Wellington Harbour, on the approaches to the city of Wellington, at coordinates 41°21′9″S 174°50′6″ECoordinates: 41°21′9″S 174°50′6″E. The reef is named after Richard (Dicky) Barrett (1807--1847), a whaler and trader. Its Maori name is Tangihanga-a-Kupe. It is popular with recreational divers.
