City Road Methodist Church, Birmingham, England, Easter 1984
City Road Methodist Church has very special memories for all those who have worshipped there. In Easter 1984 a former church member, Lance Kinder, borrowed a video camera and recorded the morning service. He has kindly made the recording available to the church.
It is a rare recording of an inner city, muli-racial, Methodist Church from the mid 1980s. Copies will be made available to both the Birmingham and Methodist Church archives.
The service was led by Tom Bourne, a very popular preacher in the West Birmingham, circuit. Many others took part in the service including Maurice Hobbs, another local preacher. The message is as relevant today as it was in 1984.
This is the entire service, with just one minor edit where a member of the congregation gave a particularly personal testimony. We have incuded the sharing of the peace, the collection, a time of open prayer and a time of testimony. This is a unique record and one well worth retaining.
City Road Methodist Church continues to meet each Sunday at 11.00 am. You are welcome if you live in Birmingham and the Black Country or are visiting.

Part of Chester's historic Roman walls have collapsed
Part of the Roman wall in Chester has collapsed, close to an area which had previously crumbled 12 years ago. The debris was discovered on Friday morning near the Grosvenor Shopping Centre and next to Wesley Church Centre, reports CheshireLive. The section has been cordoned off from the Grosvenor Hotel to The Newgate. One theory is that heavy overnight may have contributed to the collapse of the ancient wall. There are no reported injuries as a result of the damage to the wall from the falling masonry. Contractors from Cheshire West and Chester Council are on site. A 30-metre section of the walls, which date back to Roman and medieval times, collapsed in April 2008. Laser scanning and a survey involving radar of the collapsed section of wall was carried out to allow experts better knowledge of weak spots in adjacent sections. The walls reopened two years later, in 2010, after scaffolding was put up to allow repair work to take place. Surveyors, engineers and archaeologists were all drafted in to the stabilising and reconstruction of the damaged section at the time. The Labour Chester MP Chris Matheson pledged to support action to repair the damaged section of wall. He said: Chester's Walls are the jewel in our city's crown. I am appalled that the company carrying out development on the site has not exercised the care and diligence that we expect to see in such close proximity to this iconic ancient monument. Whilst further details about this incident are still forthcoming, I will be offering my support to all of the heritage partners in Chester, to ensure that action is taken to rectify this situation and restore this section of Chester Wall to its former glory. Chester Archaeological Society tweeted: Understand that section of wall had already been closed because of fears over stability. Immediate cause of collapse may have been recent heavy rain (as was the case further north by the Grosvenor Hotel. Cheshire West Council said the section collapsed last night after excavations being carried out by a private developer, working alongside the historic structure, compromised the integrity of the Ancient Monument. Investigations are continuing to establish the exact reasons for the collapse, but early indications appear to show that earth has been removed from the bottom of the city walls behind 15 to 19 Newgate Street. The removal of too much of the earth exposed a section of bare foundations.

04 Procession part 2 - St John's Settle
St John's Methodist Church, Settle, had been in the current building for 122 years. It was built in 1893. On Sat 6th December 2015 The congregation moved from this building to a new building on the other side of the road, next to the church hall.
We met early at 10am and had the first hymn in the old building
Here we are processing across the road, carrying certain items of symbolic importance with us to the new church building beside the church hall

Grace Conquers All / Conference 2016 / 02 My Journey Out of Heresy and Deception / John Samson
Behind every deception there lurks the crafty, hissing serpent appealing to the pride of man. “You don’t need a God.. why? You can become one,” he says. “Learn my wisdom and my laws; put them in motion and you can control your destiny and environment to make it as you please.”
Pastor John Samson will share the Scriptural truths that drove a stake into the heart of the deceiving, man-centered doctrines he had embraced, setting him free to know and love the only God there really is – the Sovereign King of the Universe, the God of the Bible.
John Samson is a Reformed Pastor and author with a passion for the local Church and for the free offer of the gospel to be proclaimed far and wide. He serves as the pastor of King’s Church in Peoria, Arizona, USA and writes at reformationtheology.com and at effectualgrace.com
John has been in Christian ministry for more than 28 years and in that time he has pastored churches in both England and the USA, and has included ministry trips to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, India and Mongolia, in Churches, Camps, Conferences and Gospel outreach.
John’s passion is to proclaim God as He really is, and the Gospel as it really is, believing that it is impossible to have one without the other. In light of this, he is happy to affirm the five Solas of the Reformation and the Doctrines of Grace.
For many years John hosted a live 2 hour Christian television program as well as a 30 minute daily Bible teaching radio broadcast, “the Spirit of Faith,” covering central Arizona on KPXQ 1360 AM.
John is the author of numerous biblical and theological articles and his book “Twelve What Abouts – Answering Common Objections Concerning God’s Sovereignty in Election” (published by Solid Ground Christian books) has been widely distributed, helping many come to a new and fresh understanding of the grace of God.
John was born and raised in the historic city of Chester, England, situated just a few miles from the border with Wales.
Open Air Preaching, Chester, UK- The Christian Gospel Vanguard
Paul Jennings of The Christian Gospel Vanguard preaching the gospel at The Cross in Chester Town Centre: The colourful character who appears towards the end of the video is The Town Crier. He is obliged by the council to make an announcement on this spot at this particular time. I asked him for two mins, but he said he could only give me one. He also said he was a born again Town Crier, sympathetic to the gospel and he gave me a big hug when I finished!

Churches Together in Crewe Covenant Service Address 1 of 2
On January 22nd 2008 around 200 representatives (ie members) of something like 23 Crewe Churches joined together for a Covenant Service at the Oakley Centre. A range of traditional to more free worship, happy clappies to smells & bells agreeing to get on with one another. Top stuff.
Reflected in this was a variety of styles of song, ancient & modern (I'd never have put I hear the sound of Rustling down as a modern hymn - surely getting on as something akin to a Golden Oldie now?). We acknowledged and apologised before God and each other that we've hurt other Christians and Churches, and it's time for that to stop.
We expressed gratitude for being able to work together, and promised To do together all that we can to the benefit of our community and the glory of God.
There was a spot on address by Revd John Walker, Chairman of the Chester and Stoke on Trent District of the Methodists. Locally relevant. Railway heritage. Welcoming incomers. Trying to get on with each other in families... parallels with church life. It was humourous, relevant, and challenging.
