Formerly called the People's Park, Wolverhampton's West Park was opened on 6 June 1881.
One of the few remaining examples of a fine, traditional, Victorian municipal park. One of the first in England to set a trend for the provision of areas for specific sporting activities (originally bowls, archery and cricket). 43 acres providing beautifully landscaped green space within a ten minute walk of Wolverhampton city centre. Conservatory, tennis courts, chalet tearooms, boating lake, children's play area, bowling green (located in Park Crescent), disabled access.

The site chosen for the first of the large parks in Wolverhampton was the Race Course, or Broad Meadows, owned by the Duke of Cleveland. On 12 March 1879, Alderman Samuel Dickonson, invited landscape gardeners to compete for the layout of the park. The winner of the £50 prize was Richard Hartland Vertegans of Chad Valley Nurseries, Edgbaston, Birmingham.[1] This was several years before Vertegans designed Victoria Park, Handsworth, Birmingham.[2] The remit from the council included:

CCTV shows final moments before Viktorija Sokolova was murdered
Viktorija Sokolova (inset) sneaked out of her house to meet a boy she has been exchanging Facebook messages with on April 11 this year. The following morning her half-naked body was discovered by a dog walker propped up against a bench in West Park, Wolverhampton. A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be identified because of his age, has gone on trial charged with murder and rape at Wolverhampton Crown Court. CCTV shown during the trial can be published for this first time today, showing the victim walking to the park minutes before her death.
