Adventure Notions - La Paz Mexico - Whale Shark Snorkelling Boat Tour - 2016
La Paz Mexico we had traveled there once before and found out too late that it was the place to swim with whale sharks.
When we returned we made sure that we could swim with these huge creatures. Even if it meant the boat would break down in the process. This made us think we might be stuck out at sea and never get back to our lives on our cruise ship.
Luckily the problem was resolved. I got to swim with a whale shark but I could not see. With very bad eyesight and no contacts, the experience was quite terrifying. Adventures are supposed to take you out of your comfort zone and this adventure sure did.

Todos Santos Baja Mexico : Swimming with whale sharks in La Paz
Each new video becomes my new favorite video.
Each new place becomes my new favorite place.
Todos Santos is so beautiful. From the brick buildings lining the streets to the perfect beach with an awesome swell for surfers. From the perfect beachfront restaurant with a valley of succulents behind it.
The experience of Todos Santos wasn't just in its beauty. It was in the dinner with friends. Sunset kisses and hours of watching the surfers in free flow with the water as the power of the ocean silenced my mind. And it was in seeing how happy and free my dogs are here
I can't say much about the whale shark experience. I wasn't there. I chickened out after my paddleboard incident in the last video but I think the footage speaks for it's self. I will say everyone was awe struck the rest of the day afterwards. It's a must do!

boat trip from the town of La Paz to encounter Whale Sharks - from Dezember to March is the best time to see this giants.
La Paz Baja Mexico Water Taxi to Whale Sharks
La Paz is the capital city of Baja, California - Sur (South) close to the Sea Of Cortes but it's actual location is further then you might expect. The port that you arrive into and dock at is about 15 miles to the actual city. You can book a shore excursion if you choose to do so but I'm not sure that there is enough to see in La Paz that would merit it.
When you exit the dock there will be a bunch of pop-up tent vendors selling all sorts of souvenirs. There will be a cheap beer place and a the prices on the merchandise is decent if you want to pick things up. Buy on your way back to the ship, they are more likely to decrease the price to get the sale and this way you don't have to carry it around with you all day. As you leave grab a free map of La Paz and decide what you want to see and do.
Right outside the dock are going to be FREE buses into town. You should tip a couple dollars per person both ways. This is the cheapest way to get to La Paz. It will make a really brief stop at the beach on the way to La Paz so if you want to go snorkeling or have a beach day, get off here for a really beautiful beach cove. Should you want to take a taxi it will cost you $20 to $30 each way to La Paz or $10 to $15 each way to the beach. There are plenty of taxis in La Paz and are easy to find on the main streets. Agree on a flat rate before getting in the taxi. The free bus will drop you off in the center of the city.

Whaleshark conservation in La Paz, Mexico
Stefan visited La Paz, Mexico to learn about how whale shark tourism and boat traffic has had a strong impact on local whale shark populations, with some 60% of individuals reported to have some kind of damage by boats.
We learnt that thanks to efforts by Dení Ramírez Macías and her team at Whale Shark Mexico / Tiburón ballena México, new regulations have been put in place to minimise damage from boats.
During our interviews and time here, we learnt just how import these new rules and regulations are and we hope that they will help decrease the kind of injuries such as those seen in this video.
For more information about Dení's research or to learn about internships and volunteer programs please visit

Cabo Trek your BEST option for Outdoor Activities in Cabo San Lucas !
Have you ever wondered what it feel like to swim right next to the biggest fish in the Ocean?
Well this video tries to give you an idea of what it can be like!
The tropical water of the Sea of Cortez provide the perfect environment for Whale Sharks to make this piece of Ocean home: this gentle giant can be found even further up north at Bahia de Los Angeles, Loreto and La Paz.
We encounter them occasionally also in Cabo San Lucas, Gordo Banks and Cabo Pulmo while scuba diving, but if you're looking for a 100% chance to swim with them, then your best option is La Paz!
Whale Shark can grow up to 14m (42feet) and are considered the biggest fish swimming in the Ocean. They are harmless plancton feeding creatures, although they are a shark they cannot do any harm to anybody!
This species is already considered in danger due to overfishing and unfortunate boat collisions.
The whale shark inhabits all tropical and warm-temperate seas. The fish is primarily pelagic, living in the open sea but not in the greater depths of the ocean.
Some of the footage shown here was taken by a DJI Phantom 2 drone equipped with a GoPro Hero 3+ and we think the quality of the image is great enough to give you an idea of what this tour is all about.
This particular day we were very lucky to also encounter dolphins and something that becomes increasingly more common to see: a Cannonball Jelly Fish!
Well there is many more informations, wanna know more? join one of our tours:

Snorkeling with whale shark la paz mexico december 2013
We spent a morning with Dr. Deni Ramirez Macias searching for whale sharks. Our goal was to photograph and sex each animal. The pattern of dots is diagnostic so individuals can be documented and perhaps resighted at a later date. We saw five and swam with four. All were juveniles as expected with a top length of about 22 feet. None of the sharks were feeding so we had to swim fast to keep up with them. We enjoyed ourselves tremendously and recommend this highly.

Cabo Trek your BEST option in Cabo San Lucas !
Whale Shark snorkeling in La Paz, Baja California Sur (Mexico) is probably a once in a lifetime experience.
Very few places on this planet offer this unique opportunity to make a close encounter with this amazing animal.
As usual Cabo Trek's tours are marine biologist lead tours: knowledge is power, what you know and understand you better defend!
Whale Shark is a species threatened with extinction, the work done in La Paz is to better understand this animal and its habits.
Once you shared a nice swim with a 30 to 40 ft Shark you can no longer be indifferent to this gentle giant: our main effort at Cabo Trek is to install passion in your harts and share our mission to protect the oceans.
