Lower White River Wilderness
The United States Congress designated the Lower White River Wilderness in 2009 and it now has a total of 2,806 acres. All of this wilderness is located in Oregon and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest Service.
The White River rises in the high Cascades in western Wasco County, in the Mount Hood National Forest on the southeast flank of Mount Hood. The headwaters are just below White River Glacier in White River Canyon. Additions to the Mount Hood Wilderness protect upper portions of the river, while the Lower White River Wilderness, southeast of the majestic Mount Hood Wilderness and east of Highway 26, protect a segment of lower White River stretch.
Be sure to contact the BLM's Prineville District or the Mt. Hood National Forest for the latest conditions and access to the spectacular Lower White River Wilderness Area!
The Bureau of Land Management's National Conservation Lands, also known as the National Landscape Conservation System, contain some of the West's most spectacular landscapes. It includes over 886 federally recognized areas and approximately 27 million acres that include Wilderness areas.
With the passage of the Omnibus Public Land Act in March 2009, the BLM now manages eight Wilderness Areas across nearly 247,000 acres in Oregon. The BLM also manages one Wilderness Area in Washington covering 7,142 acres. In addition, the BLM currently protects wilderness values on 82 Wilderness Study Areas (WSA) and five Instant Study Areas in Oregon totaling more than 2.6 million acres and one WSA in Washington totaling 5,557 acres.
Wilderness is Congressionally-designated piece land that is managed in accordance with the Wilderness Act of 1964 to ...secure for the American people of present and future generations the benefits of an enduring resource of wilderness. Wilderness areas are places where natural processes take precedent; areas managed so that nature remains substantially unchanged by human use. Rugged trails provide the only access into wilderness, and travel is restricted to foot or horseback.
This map will allow you to plan your trip, navigate the wilderness, and enjoy its solitude and splendor. Before you head out to this area be sure you know how to use a map and compass. To learn a little more about map and compass navigation check out our video on YouTube:

Columbia River 4K UHD
The Columbia River is the largest river in the Pacific Northwest region of North America.[9] The river rises in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. It flows northwest and then south into the US state of Washington, then turns west to form most of the border between Washington and the state of Oregon before emptying into the Pacific Ocean. The river is 1,243 miles (2,000 km) long, and its largest tributary is the Snake River. Its drainage basin is roughly the size of France and extends into seven US states and a Canadian province.
By volume, the Columbia is the fourth-largest river in the United States; it has the greatest flow of any North American river draining into the Pacific. The river's heavy flow and its relatively steep gradient gives it tremendous potential for the generation of electricity. The 14 hydroelectric dams on the Columbia's main stem and many more on its tributaries produce more than 44% of total U.S. hydroelectric generation[10] - much more hydroelectric power than those of any other North American river.
Hood River (Originally called Dog River) post office was established (named by Mary Coe) at the site of the present city on September 30, 1858,[7] and the city itself was incorporated in 1895.[8] Originally, the city was part of Wasco County, but it became the seat of Hood River County when the county was first established in 1908.[9]
Geography[edit]
Hood River is at the confluence of the Hood River and the Columbia River in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge. The city is about 30 miles (48 km) north of Mount Hood, the tallest peak in the state. It is across the Columbia River from White Salmon, Washington. South of the city is the Hood River Valley, known for its production of apples, pears, and cherries.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.35 square miles (8.68 km2), of which, 2.55 square miles (6.60 km2) is land and 0.80 square miles (2.07 km2) is water.[2]

The area is known for its consistently high winds channeling down the Columbia River Gorge.
Temperatures for the year as a whole are slightly cooler than most other low-elevation towns in the region, especially at night due to air drainage off the surrounding mountains. As a rule of thumb, Hood River temperatures are similar to those of Portland in the summer, but more like The Dalles in the winter.

This Rare Black Rose Can Only Be Found in Turkey
The Turkish Halfeti Rose only grows in exceptionally small numbers in the village of Halfeti, Turkey.
Red roses are probably the most cliched romantic gift ever. Have you ever considered a black rose?
There aren't too many females who will deny the extremely rare Turkish rose makes an exotic gift, even if it will die after a week or so. The roses appear to be completely black, with the signature green stem.
Called the Turkish Halfeti Rose, they only grow in exceptionally small numbers in the village of Halfeti, Turkey. They won't flourish anywhere else in the entire world because it's the river Euphrates that provides the ideal soil and growing conditions for the rose.
Those perfect natural circumstances are due to the pH levels of groundwater in the local area. Adding to the undeniably cool effect of the rose, the black color is only visible during the summer months. In every other season the roses are an exceptionally deep crimson red tint.
Although the rose is unique, the Turks associate it both with passion as well as death and foreboding, perhaps due to the insanely dark color.
What do you think about the black rose?

WATCH: Tech Crunch SF Disrupt 2019: Day three October 4, 2019
TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield is the world’s preeminent startup competition. Startup Battlefield features 15-30 top early stage startups pitching top judges in front of a vast live audience, present in person and online. Teams go through an intensive mini-accelerator for 8 weeks before each event, honing their business models and pitches. Startups pitch on stage for six minutes, followed by an intense question and answer session with top investors, entrepreneurs, and technologists, including prominent Silicon Valley figures like Marissa Mayer, Ron Conway, Fred Wilson and Roelof Botha, among many others – just like an investment pitch meeting.
Companies that launched at Tech Crunch include Vurb, Trello, Mint, Dropbox, Yammer, Tripit, Redbeacon, Qwiki, Getaround, and Soluto. The statistics on the 763 startups that have participated since the first competition, TC40 in 2007, tell a strong story: in aggregate, as of February 2019, they have raised $8.8 billion, while 109 have been acquired or have gone public. TechCrunch makes the complete details of past Battlefields and participants available on the Battlefield leaderboard.
It’s important to note that TechCrunch takes no fees or equity from the startups. Applying and participating in the Battlefield is 100% free.
Startup Battlefields take place both regionally and at TechCrunch Disrupt. Startup Battlefield at at TechCrunch Disrupt is industry and regionally agnostic. The winner takes away the Disrupt Cup, an equity-free check for $100,000 (at SF), and all the contestants enjoy immense press, investor and partner attention, along with membership in the elite ranks of Battlefield alums and to Extra Crunch.
