Successful partnerships are above all, guided by a shared vision and purpose. Partners have to work towards a common set of objectives. It builds trust and recognises the value and contribution each other makes. Partners must respect each other’s contributions and regard one another as equals. It promotes an atmosphere of learning and an open mindset and desire to invest in each other's skills and knowledge. If a partnership is going to succeed, there must be effective communication and constructive honesty in feedback.
It is such a partnership that we recognised when we met Matt Widmer and Keith Robinson at Wild Life Distillery in Canmore, Alberta. Both are world travellers that already shared a journey through South America. Both signed up for the wild life of entrepreneurship and making something.

o-CNN: Intro to Botanical Experimentation and Spirit Infusion at RAW Distillery in Canmore, Alberta
RAW Distillery
RAW Distillery Ltd. started production in Canmore and the Two Cowboys & A Camera was there to help with flavour experiments. You just have to say Vodka, Gin and Whisky and we show up.
For now, you will have to keep your eyes on selected bottles which are expected to be arriving in stores soon. Their mission is to create bold spirits and a ‘tasting adventure’ for consumers.
RAW is the latest addition to Alberta's craft distillery booze-making explosion. RAW is using Alberta grains and glacier water from the Rocky Mountains. Their journey promises to take them towards the production of adventurous, bold spirits that they (and us) can all be proud of.
Stay tuned for their profile video coming up in Spring 2017.

10 very cool reasons to add Montreal to your travel list - Travel Guide vs Booking
If cowboys, cattle and snowy slopes are all you know about Alberta it’s time to take another look at this province, which may just be home to some of Canada’s coolest winter time experiences. From high-octane fat biking adventures through perfect powder snow and soaking up the thriving ‘grain to glass’ craft beer and distillery scene, to seeing stars in a Dark Sky Preserve, it’s all waiting for you to discover.Sure, Alberta boasts some of the world’s most epic ski and winter sports destinations, at Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise, but don’t be put off by the idea of a winter sports holiday if you’re not a skier; there are plenty of ways to enjoy the snow and Canadians have spent years perfecting the art of winter fun when the temperatures head below zero.Fat Biking is the latest hot craze; so called because the bikes have ultra-wide tyres so that riders can navigate snow and icy conditions without slipping and skidding. Most resorts have Fat Biking trails which are kept groomed by local bikers; rent one and head out on an adventure you'll never forget. If bikes aren’t your thing, try a totally effortless form of winter adventure, tubing; guaranteed to bring out the kid in any adult! Tubes are large inflated rubber rings which you ‘ride’ to the top of a slope by way of a rope lift and then enjoy sailing back down again. Increase the speed by linking up with other tubers to have a group experience, hurtling down a 200m slope, shrieking with excitement all the way! The Acura Park in Calgary is Western Canada’s largest tubing park with nine lanes of super-steep slopes to conquer.Alberta is home to some of the world’s largest dark sky preserves in Jasper and Wood Buffalo national parks. The lack of artificial light means you’ll be able to see the stars in their true twinkling beauty.Throughout October Jasper hosts a Dark Sky Festival packed with fun events like starry sky yoga, symphony concerts under the stars and even guest appearances from celestial celebs such as Professor Brian Cox.Those dark skies also usher in another of nature’s miracles; the aurora borealis. The shimmering curtains of light and shifting colours of green, yellow, purple and red can be seen best in the winter months when the skies are clear and the weather is crisp.Take a trip into Alberta’s north to catch the best lights with a guided tour heading out beyond Fort McMurray with Adventure Borealis and their Métis guides. By day, master the zen art of ice fishing; plenty of patience is required, along with a cooler full of beer, and a flask of piping hot coffee. Or maybe try an adrenaline-pumping bout of snowmobiling.By night, warm up with tasty bowls of steaming stew and velvety hot chocolate while listening to stories of local First Nations legends and learn how to best photograph this stunning natural phenomenon. If you’re looking to take a break from the snow and head indoors, then hip coffee roasteries, craft cocktail joints, stylish designer stores, and award-winning restaurants are just some of the treats you can expect in Alberta’s buzzing city hubs, Calgary and Edmonton.Try Edmonton’s Strathcona district for Southern-inspired BBQ at the aptly-named MEAT where you can chow down on vast platters of brisket, pulled pork and luscious apple-glazed smoked chicken. Wash it all down with bourbon-spiked Kentucky Mule and a ‘pickleback’ shot of pickle brine. Try unique cocktail creations at North 53 like the Smoke and Oak, a twist on an Old Fashioned with smoked maple syrup and oaked gin.You may not expect one of Canada’s most creative bakeries to be in Edmonton, but the famous Duchess Bake Shop certainly knocks it out of the park when it comes to whipping up unexpected—and delicious—creations. Chow down on sour cream and cherry pies, Black Forest croissants or raspberry-vanilla Madeleines in its beautiful French-inspired café, then hit up the neighbouring retail outlet to stock up on treats you never knew you wanted —but now absolutely need!—such as jars of the house-made salt caramel, chocolate bars from around the world, and tins of delicate Fleurie-blend tea.Over in Calgary, discover why the dining scene is c

Wild Life Distillery Cocktail Class and Experience
Co-founders of Wild Life Distillery, Matt Widmer and Keith Robinson have grown up exploring the Rocky Mountains of the Bow Valley.
Today they are exploring a wilder life through their fledgling craft distillery.
We attended one of their first cocktail classes to find out what it is all about. What we discovered is a passion for flavors, but more importantly a passion for making local, supporting local and creating local Bow Valley experiences to showcase the good life.
Please enjoy the video with us and support these two young entrepreneurs. Their cocktails are coming on nicely and so are their spirits.

Canmore Uncorked 2017 - Wild Life Distillery
It is a Wild Life to survive 12 days of gluttony, intoxication and celebration at a food festival. This year we are starting 2017 with the Canmore Uncorked Food Festival (May 3-14, 2017). The first of the festivals the Two Cowboys will be attending and featuring, in our travels.
To cleanse the livers we will be reaching for something healthy, pure, refreshing and locally distilled in Canmore. It will be the cucumber cocktail for which the crew at Wild Life Distillery is fast becoming quite (in)famous. We believe it is a hit with the ladies because of the citrusy notes the Wild Life fire water imparts on the drink.
Canmore Uncorked, the multiple award-winning food festival, returns to Canmore on May 3rd, 2017 for another 12 days of remarkable dining experiences!

Two Cowboys: A Tiny Saloon and Watering Hole in the Wall, Where the Buffalo Roam in Canmore, Alberta

Where the Buffalo Roam, Canmore
For almost 4,000 years buffalo grazed on the Bow Valley's rich pasture and drank from the water of the Bow River. In 2015 the doors of a tiny little Saloon opened on Main Street, Canmore. It took its queue and borrowed its name from these gracious animals. Today it serves up pretty much the same concept. It takes care of the hungry and the thirsty. It is their place to meet, drink, date, socialise or to just to get away after a long working day.
We were welcomed with open arms when we filmed Oona and her team before Christmas 2016.
What appeared at first glance as a tiny unassuming watering hole surprised us with a variety to drink that shows a real commitment to featuring local brewers, distillers and nearby wine producers. The food is inspirational. We recommend the slow braised beef rib with Christmas colour garnishing (see photo below). However, nothing comes close to the creativity that goes into the cocktails. A cocktail is something we usually pass over because of cost. At this Saloon, it is the feature attraction. Make it count. I am told it is just the way it is done Where the Buffalo Roam.
