Exploring the WILD CATACOMBS OF ODESSA | Longest tunnel system in the world
A travel to Odessa, Ukraine to chill out and rejuvenate from Medical school stress led to me exploring the Odessa catacombs as per my ever-growing wanderlust. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Built in the 19th century, the catacombs are a labyrinth-like network of tunnels located under the City of Odessa. The approximate topography of the Odessa underground labyrinth is unknown and so, the catacombs have not been fully mapped. It is one of the world’s largest labyrinth running up to 2,500 kilometers. How cool, right?!
Anyway, only a part of the catacombs is open to the public within the “Museum of Partisan Glory.” As of 2012, there are more than 1000 known entrances to the tunnels. Other caves attract the extremists- tourists who still explore despite the dangers.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Do journey with me on this Vlog as I explore the Odessa catacombs, and trust me it gets as exciting an adventure can get. Add up to your travel wishlist, you’re welcome.????

At the same way sometimes it can be even more hard and even real exploring of new areas, but only if you will let us know before we meet.
World's LONGEST Tunnel System (Odessa Catacombs)
August 11, 2017 / VLOG NO. 73 – We set off to explore the world's longest tunnel system, the Odessa Catacombs in Ukraine. It's insane how large this system of labyrinths is—consisting of 3,000 km of tunnels, the Odessa Catacombs are longer than both the Rome and Paris Catacombs combined!!! They were built in the 19th century when Odessa was still being built, and used during WWII by the Soviet partisans against Nazi invaders.

Odessa Catacombs Tour | Odessa Walks
Odessa catacombs are mines, which were created to get limestone for the city's construction. During the tour you see authentic mines (aka catacombs) and walk through the area, used by the resistance during WW2. After the war the survivors recreated how they lived in the mines. EXPLORING ODESSA CATACOMBS || UKRAINE
Hi guys!
While on a holiday in Ukraine a few months ago, we took a day trip to Odessa (you can see some of the clips from there in my previous video). One of the things on my bucket list was to visit the famous Odessa catacombs. I'm so glad we did it because it was definitely one of the best experiences of my life!
You're only allowed to visit the catacombs with a guide because it's so easy to get lost in there. Our tour lasted for 2,5 hours!
One of the highlights of the tour was when we all had to switch off our flashlights and stand quietly in complete darkness. That was scary and fascinating at the same time. What made it scary was trying to imagine what it would feel like to get lost in the catacombs without any light sources. It would be impossible to find a way out since it's literally so dark that you can't even see your own hand that's just a few centimeters away from your face.
Anyway, I would definitely recommend visiting any catacombs if you ever get the chance.

The Odessa Catacombs
The Odessa Catacombs are a network of tunnels that consist of three levels, stretching out under the city and surrounding region of Odessa. The first underground stone mines started to appear in the 19th century, while vigorous construction took place in Odessa. After the Russian Revolution of 1917, stone mining was banned within the central part of Odessa. During World War II the catacombs served as hiding places for Soviet partisans, in particular the squad of V.A. Molodtsev.

Odessa catacombs, Odessa, Ukraine.
In the late 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, a lot of architectural monuments and buildings were constructed in Odessa. The building materials, especially limestone, were used by necessity at that time. However, due to the frequent drawdowns of some buildings, a ban on the extraction of stone within the boundaries of some streets was imposed. Thus, the whole system of the labyrinths was created not only under the city but also outside its borders. The mazes included various bunkers, caves and long tunnels, which served as hideouts for Soviet soldiers and partisans during the Second World War.
Nowadays, these underground passages are the most famous and longest in the world. Its length is estimated up to 1,553 miles (2,500 km) of labyrinths and caves connected to each other. Meanwhile, the length of the Roman and Parisian ones are 186 miles (300 km) and 310 miles (500 km), respectively. The layers of the catacombs go down to a depth of 60 meters (196 feet) below sea level.
