-- About this video --
Today we are joining Wildwire Wanaka for a day of via ferrata climbing! We are picked up from Wanaka and taken to the climbing site near the Treble Cone ski field just outside of Wanaka.
We get kitted up then do a practice round on the via ferrata which is a style of climbing using metal footholds and you are always attached to a steel cable. Anyone could do it, even if you have never climbed before.
We start to climb up the steep cliff face of the waterfall, the higher we go the more stunning the views get. We can see all the way to Lake Wanaka. We follow a route crossing the waterfall several times as this is the highest waterfall via ferrata climb in the world.
So what do you think of via ferrata climbing in Wanaka with Wildwire Wanaka? Would you put it on your New Zealand must-do list?

Wildwire Wanaka
Personal footage chopped together from a shoot for WildWire back in November last year, with Chris Kirkham from NZGreenroom Productions.
Best way to tackle a fear of heights (if you have one) would be to give this a shot! Went up with two radio presenters, one of which wasn't a fan of gripping on above the drop below, but he survived and was pumped as at the end.

WHAT IS VIA FERRATA?
On all three climbs you will be supported by our trained guides and secured with safety equipment the whole time. You will be climbing our purpose built via ferrata system.
Via ferrata literally means ‘iron road’. Originally used In WW1 to help transport troops across steep mountain ranges. We secure ourselves to a steel cable and climb using iron rungs, pegs, bridges and ladders. This system allows us to climb right next to the waterfall and into areas that are otherwise inaccessible. The best thing is, you need no climbing experience to enjoy a via ferrata. If you can climb a ladder, you will be OK.

The Big Nige Canyon - Deep Canyon, Wanaka, Canyoning New Zealand
This mission is an upstream 'add on' to our Niger Stream Trip... steeper and deeper!
With spectacular views out to the alpine scenery, it is particularly beautiful and hugely enjoyable. It features exciting abseils in strong water flows. The situations are dramatic and the abseils often take you into and behind spectacular waterfalls -- visually sensational and very dynamic.
Big Nige is a longer day -- be prepared for around four hours of continuous descent (and the walk up the hill takes 40 minutes). As we descend we link into Niger Stream with its many jumps and slides -- so you get in a lot of everything...

Group sizes are small and personal (max of four in a group). This trip is for people who want a bigger day of hands-on action and enormous amounts of fun....

-- About this video --
Today’s plan was to get some big air in Wanaka by doing a skydive but when it is cancelled due to bad weather we decide to do the best thing on a rainy day in Wanaka, The AirShed!
The AirShed is a skate park in Wanaka, trampoline park, climbing wall and airbag facility in Wanaka where skiers, snowboarders, surfers and skaters come to learn big air tricks, while kids jump around on the trampolines. We can’t do much ourselves, but Aaron the owner of AirShed, teaches Laura how to do a back flip for the first time!
We have a great time messing amount on the huge trampolines, trying out some skateboards, rock climbing on the Wanaka climbing wall. And discovering this hidden gem of excitement in Wanaka.
So what do you think of The AirShed? Would you consider stopping by on your travels in Wanaka? Let us know in the comments.

WILDWIRE VIA FERRATA, WANAKA - 1min
NZ Greenroom has been supplying digital media services to Mark & Laurel Morrisons' businesses for almost 18 years.
Wild Wire - Twin Falls is their latest venture and is a must do Wanaka activity touting The Highest Waterfall Via Ferrata In The World.
NZ Greenroom gladly accepted the opportunity to return to our stomping ground in Central Otago, Wanaka where we spent several days capturing stage 1 of a multimedia delivery that ended up as a 2 min, 1 min, a 30 sec and two 15 second videos.
Stage 2 video concepts are already in pre production and will take on the task of documenting another 200m of Via Ferrata that will expand to the top of the waterfall.
