Spent 4th of July 2018 at Woldenberg Park in New Orleans, LA. Got a chance to see the Steamboat Natchez, General Roy S. Kelley fireboat and the Dueling Barges fireworks display.
Woldenberg Riverfront Park: Bike, walk, jog or just sit back and relax next to the mighty Mississippi at beautiful Woldenberg Park. Enjoy the ships floating by on the river, or the interesting sculptures that dot the landscape near the docks. Plenty of grass for picnicking and ample benches make perfect spots for a quick rest after a jaunt around the French Quarter.
Named after philanthropist Malcolm Woldenberg, the Riverfront was opened to the public before the 1984 World's Fair. Floodwalls, warehouses and industrial docks have been replaced by jumping off points for steamboat and dinner cruises. Accessible wide, bricked walkways wind through lush landscape and public art.
On a given day, it is not unusual to visit Woldenberg Park and run into a school group visiting New Orleans or a couple getting married with the River as their backdrop. Visitors are sometimes serenaded by local musicians and street performers. For a quiet stroll or a peaceful jog, visit the park in the morning – this is also the best time to catch a cool breeze or see the fog roll off the Mississippi.
Throughout the year there are events that take place in Woldenberg Park. The main stages of the French Quarter Festival are in the park. This free April Festival features the best New Orleans musical performers and is a great pre-curser to Jazz Fest. There are also smaller, intimate concerts at the outdoor amphitheatre throughout the year.
Dueling Barges Fireworks Display:
Cost: Free
Location: French Quarter
You can watch fireworks in just about any city in the United States when July 4th rolls around, but you won’t find any firework display quite like the one in New Orleans.
In this city, we don’t have just one fireworks show, we have two, at the same time, in the form of dueling barges on the Mississippi River. That’s right, on the Fourth of July, two barges shoot off a spectacular array of sparkling lights and cosmic sounds along the New Orleans river front. Picture the dueling pianos that you can find along Bourbon Street, but with fireworks instead. It’s the kind of experience that you don’t want to miss, and it’s guaranteed to wow the whole family.
The fireworks show starts at 9 p.m. Every year
Steamboat Natchez: Fireworks on July 4th are outstanding in New Orleans! Rated one the top 5 shows in the country, the attraction of dueling barges on the Mississippi River adds that extra special element.
General Roy S. Kelley Fireboat: The Fireboat General Roy S. Kelley is a working emergency response vessel operated by the Port of New Orleans. Built in 1994 and routinely maintained, the fireboat can be seen patrolling the Mississippi River within the Port's three-parish jurisdiction (Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard). The General Kelley is 95 ft. long and 16 ft. wide with a 7 ft. draft. It seats 24 and typically has a crew of three.

Places to see in ( New Orleans - USA ) Audubon Aquarium of the Americas
Looming large against the Mississippi River is the extraordinary Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, one of the top museums of its kind in America. Here the visitor finds 15,000 sea life creatures, representing nearly 600 species, living happily in a state-of-the-art facility.
The world-renown Audubon Aquarium is home to fish and sea life of all kinds - and visitors can get up close, eye-to-eye if you please, with some of the most fascinating creatures of the ocean. The Caribbean Reef tunnel, for example, is 30 feet long and allows the visitor a view of the Caribbean sea life viewed only by divers. The new Seahorses Gallery showcases these beautiful creatures as they swim gracefully between the grasses in their home and glide through the water. Remember, only the MALE seahorses give birth.
At the Audubon Aquarium visitors also find rare and endangered species. Look for the white alligator - just 18 of these animals were found in a Louisiana swamp. These alligators are not albino - their steely blue eyes and white skin are mesmerizing. In Cajun lore, seeing a white alligator is considered good luck!
Want to pet a shark? Here's your chance. The shark touch pool allows visitors to touch a baby shark and talk with the naturalist. Want to be entertained by Sea Otters, rare neon colored frogs or jaunty penguins? They are all here! The half-million-gallon Gulf of Mexico exhibit teems with fully-grown sharks and undersea life that thrive around the barnacled pilings of a simulated oil rig. If anaconda snakes, poisonous frogs and stunning exotic birds are your interest, then visit the Aquarium's Amazon rain forest exhibit.
Plan to spend several hours or all day in this amazing museum filled with aquatic life you’ve only read about. A small cafe is on site, as is a wonderful gift shop. The Audubon Aquarium is available for rental for large receptions and corporate entertaining.

Places to see in ( New Orleans - USA )
New Orleans is a Louisiana city on the Mississippi River, near the Gulf of Mexico. Nicknamed the Big Easy, it's known for its round-the-clock nightlife, vibrant live-music scene and spicy, singular cuisine reflecting its history as a melting pot of French, African and American cultures. Embodying its festive spirit is Mardi Gras, the late-winter carnival famed for raucous costumed parades and street parties.
The things that make life worth living – eating, drinking and the making of merriment – are the air that New Orleans breathes. We hope you’re not reading this at home. We hope you’re in New Orleans, because you’re about to eat better than most others. When it comes to food, New Orleans does not fool around. Well, OK, it does: its playful attitude to ingredients and recipes mixes (for example) alligator sausage and cheesecake into a dessert fit for the gods. This sense of gastronomic play is rooted in both deep traditions – truly, this city has one of the few indigenous cuisines in the country – and, increasingly, a willingness to accommodate outside influences, both in terms of technique and ethnicity.
We're not exaggerating when we say there is either a festival or a parade every week of the year in New Orleans. Sometimes, such as during Mardi Gras or Jazz Fest, it feels like there’s a new party for every hour of the day. At almost any celebration in town, people engage in masking – donning a new appearance via some form of costuming – while acting out the satyric side of human behavior. But the celebrations and rituals of New Orleans are as much about history as hedonism, and every dance is as much an expression of tradition and community spirit as it is of joy.
The Crescent City has suffered plagues, wars, imperial regime changes and devastating floods. Yet, it always wakes up with a smile on its face. This may be because its inhabitants step to an easy beat first laid down three centuries ago. Moving at this relaxed pace, visitors are delighted by the French Creole elegance of the Vieux Carre (French Quarter) or the opulence discovered in a streetcar ride through the Garden District and Uptown.
Anytime of year find live music, amazing Creole and Cajun cuisine, fresh seafood, farmers markets, shopping, nightlife and more. During Mardi Gras season, the city becomes the world’s center. Downtown transforms into an adult playground, while parades in residential areas provide children thrilling entertainment. Each spring, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival moves the focus to the charming Gentilly area and the Fair Grounds Race Course. But no matter the time of year, New Orleans' calendar overflows in celebration.

Places to see in ( New Orleans - USA ) New Orleans City Park
City Park, a 1,300-acre (5.3 km2) public park in New Orleans, Louisiana, is the 87th largest and 20th-most-visited urban public park in the United States. City Park is approximately 50% larger than Central Park in New York City, the municipal park recognized by Americans nationwide as the archetypal urban greenspace. Although it is an urban park whose land is owned by the City of New Orleans, it is administered by the City Park Improvement Association, an arm of state government, not by the New Orleans Parks and Parkways Department. City Park is very unusual in that it is a largely self-supporting public park, with most of its annual budget derived from self-generated revenue through user fees and donations.
In the wake of the enormous damage inflicted upon the park due to Hurricane Katrina, the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism began to partially subsidize the park's operations. City Park holds the world's largest collection of mature live oak trees, some older than 600 years in age. The park was founded in 1854, making it the 48th oldest park in the country, and established as the City Park in 1891.
The park was originally a location used for dueling. In the 1800s, men would defend their pride and honor by dueling each other under the oaks at what is now City Park but then was a normally quiet spot secluded from the rest of the city. Originally, there were two dueling oaks, but one was lost in a hurricane in 1949. City Park was established in the mid-19th century on land fronting Metairie Road (now City Park Avenue), along the remains of Bayou Metairie, a former distributary of the Mississippi River.

Memories of the Fly by the river in Audubon Park
The Fly is the only wide green space along the river within the greater New Orleans area, if not the state. It is a unique treasure that should be preserved for the whole city. There are now plans to build a members only sports complex with a fenced in astro turf soccer field, two additional asphalt parking lots and a new concrete concessions stand to completely replace this green space. I have heard that there will also be tall bleachers. This video shows a few of the many current users and their fond memories of this unique space. It needs to be saved. KISS Finale Woldenberg Park, New Orleans 2012!!!!!
May, 2012 edit: BOYCOTT AT&T! For some strange, unknown reason, AT&T Intellectual Properties has filed a copyright claim on two (that right, just TWO) of MY videos from their Block Party event in New Orleans on March 30, 2012. Video footage that I filmed MYSELF, in person. Just like THIS ONE!
I now have two copyright strikes against my account for simply photographing and videoing a NOLA EVENT that I attended. I have filed a counter copyright claim TWICE and have yet to hear back from either YOUTUBE or AT&T Intellectual Property for trying to claim what, by law, is mine.
Thanks for the block party AT&T. Please don't ever come back with your corporate greed and false claims. The city of NOLA/the state of Louisiana and their citizens have already been screwed over ~ forward, backward and upside down ~ more than enough by greedy corporations like you. Making false promises and false claims with no acceptable explanations or even an attempt at a sincere apology afterwards.
