Königsberg Cathedral. Kaliningrad, Russia
Königsberg Cathedral (Russian: Кафедральный собор г. Калининграда; German: Königsberger Dom) is a Brick Gothic-style monument in Kaliningrad, Russia, located on Kneiphof island in the Pregel (Pregolya) river. It is the most significant preserved building of the former City of Königsberg, which was largely destroyed in World War II.
Dedicated to Virgin Mary and St Adalbert, it was built as the see of the Prince-Bishops of Samland in the 14th century. Upon the establishment of the secular Duchy of Prussia, it became the Lutheran Albertina University church in 1544. The cathedral burnt down after two RAF night raids in late August 1944; reconstruction started after the Perestroika movement in 1992.

The examples of other countries, such as the US and China, show that it is possible to cope with a smaller time difference. These are also big countries. We need to examine the possibility of reducing the number of time zones. Naturally all the consequences of such a decision should be calculated. By the way, it concerns also the practicality of changing between winter and summer time.

STORYLINE
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev suggested on Thursday that Russia reduce its number of time zones, which currently stands at 11 across its vast territory.
With one-ninth of the world's land mass, Russia stretches from Kaliningrad, which is next to Poland, more than 5,500 miles (8,851 kilometres) to the eastern tip of Chukotka, across the Bering Strait from Alaska.
The United States, in comparison, stretches nearly 2,700 miles (4,345 kilometres) across the four time zones of the 48 contiguous states in the United States.
In Russia, when the Kremlin's bell tower on Red Square tolls 9 am at the start of the business day in Moscow, it's already 6 pm in the farthest part of Russia's Far East.
Russia's vastness is a source of national pride, but it also hinders economic development, Medvedev said, and reducing the number of time zones he hoped would improve economic performance.
The examples of other countries, such as the US and China, show that it is possible to cope with a smaller time difference, Medvedev said in his annual state-of-the-nation speech.
We need to examine the possibility of reducing the number of time zones. Naturally all the consequences of such a decision should be calculated, he said.
Medvedev didn't say how extensive any cut would be, but Vladivostok Economics University rector Gennady Lazarev told the RIA Novosti news agency it would probably mean shrinking to just four time zones: one each for Kaliningrad, Moscow, the Ural Mountains region and the vast reaches of Siberia and the Far East.
In that case, residents of the Pacific coast city would see the sunset before 3 pm at this time of year.

As opposed to Trump, the situation in the Far East is perceived far more sensitively by Premier of Japan Shinzō Abe. The Far East for him is an opportunity for large-scale projects of both economic and peace consolidating nature. Here, for example, are the images he uses to depict the Northeast Passage, extending its route through the northern part of the Pacific Ocean up to the Sea of Japan. I think we'll surely create in this vast corner of the Northern and Eastern Hemisphere a bulwark of peace.

Russia is ready for nuclear attack
Russian forces of the Aerospace Defence have successfully completed deployment of the first phase of the single radar field of the early Missile Attack Warning System. Radars are able to control missile launches along the border of the country within a 6,000-km radius.
The system comprises not only specialized radars like Voronezh, Daryal, Dnepr, and Volga, but also an upgraded Don radar. Before that it was used for anti-missile guidance only.
The Russian Warning System has three elements. Satellites detect launches of ballistic missiles, while ground stations figure out trajectory and direction of an attack. The Don-2N radar in the village of Sofrino near Moscow gets this data and guides anti-missiles.
For the moment alike facilities are on station in the Irkutsk, Kaliningrad, and Krasnodar regions. Deployment of all the facilities will secure Russia with an all-round defence against missile attacks.

STRANGEST Time Zones In The World!
Some of the Strangest Time Zones In The World! These are the planets oddest regional time differences you've never heard of.
What countries have more time zones than most continents? Where can you time travel just by crossing a country’s border? Find out as we look at the Strangest Time Zones In The World.
#14 Arizona & Tribes
Though often sharing time zones with neighbors California and Nevada, Arizona is unique among states as it is the only one in the continental US to not recognize Daylight Savings Time! Thus, all year long it remains Mountain Standard Time. To make matters stranger, the Navajo Nation territory does recognize it, and within that territory, the Hopi Reservation sides with Arizona! A single trip straight through The Grand Canyon State could require up to seven clock adjustments!
#13 Newfoundland
The basis for time zone standards originates with the Greenwich Observatory, an early hub for scientific research, and as such is known as Greenwich Mean Time, or Coordinated Universal Time depending on the region. The majority of time zones use this meridian as the basis for scaling their own time zones and most places do so in increments of one hour. But Newfoundland had their own agenda. Due to its geographical location on the cusp of an earlier time zone, as well as their natural want to differentiate from the rest of Canada, Newfoundland established a difference of three and a half hours from Greenwich Mean Time! This means Newfoundland is the first place in North America to receive most anything, often having the honor of premiering products and media to the western world.
