Bulgarian MFA Has Ax to Grind! Uses Opening of WWII Museum to Accuse Russia of Oppression!
Subscribe to Vesti News
Bulgarian MFA stated that the USSR brought repression and limitation of freedom to Europe. That is how diplomats reacted to the intention of the Russian Cultural Center in Sofia to organize an exhibition dedicated to the 75th anniversary of victory over Nazism. The exposition hasn't even opened yet, the Bulgarian foreign-policy establishment, however, decided to voice their criticism beforehand.
Russia: Troops march through Red Square to celebrate legendary 1941 parade

Around 4,000 troops commemorated the 78th anniversary of the legendary 1941 military parade by marching through Moscow’s Red Square on Thursday.
The participants marched donning World War II-era service uniforms, following the same formation of the troops that took part in the original parade in 1941.
The parade included a wide range of historic military equipment and units, with Katyusha rocket launchers, T-34 tanks and artillery guns among others on display.
Among the guests of the memorial parade were veterans of the Great Patriotic War, in addition to veteran members of the military and law enforcement agencies, as well as some of the surviving participants of the parade in 1941.
On November 7, 1941, a military parade to commemorate the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 was staged in Red Square.
After passing the Kremlin, the troops marched to the frontlines of the war where they engaged the Wehrmacht in a series of battles, including an offensive in Aleksino that resulted in a Soviet victory and heavy losses for the invading power.

Crimson Quartzite - the Tzar Stone www.kvarcit.org
In Russia crimson quartzite was used for decoration of top landmarks, such as the Hermitage, St. Isaac's Cathedral, Kazan Cathedral, Red Square, Christ the Saviour Cathedral, Russian House of Senate.
Historically crimson quartzite was solely designated for the royalties and Soviet leaders - shoksha was the material chosen out of hundreds by Louis Visonti for sarcophagus of Napoleon Bonaparte currently exhibited in Les Invalides Museum in Paris.
Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad
This powerful and impressive monument was built as the focal point of Ploshchad Pobedy (Victory Square) in the early 1970s to commemorate the heroic efforts of the residents of Leningrad and the soldiers on the Leningrad Front to the repel the Nazis in the 900-day Siege of Leningrad during World War II.
Russia
My visit to Russia begins along the Baltic Sea in Saint Petersburg. Saint Petersburg is Russia's second-largest city as well as its cultural capital. The Historic Center of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Next I continue on to Moscow, Russia's capital and most populous city. Here I visit historic Red Square and the Kremlin. The Video concludes with my visit to the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergii in Zagorsk.

Cut from Australian TV series Anzacs 1985.
The Battle of Amiens, also known as the Third Battle of Picardy (French: 3ème Bataille de Picardie), was the opening phase of the Allied offensive which began on 8 August 1918, later known as the Hundred Days Offensive, that ultimately led to the end of the First World War. Allied forces advanced over 11 kilometres (7 mi) on the first day, one of the greatest advances of the war, with Gen Henry Rawlinson's British Fourth Army (with 9 of its 19 divisions supplied by the fast moving Australian Corps of Lt Gen John Monash and Canadian Corps of Lt Gen Arthur Currie) playing the decisive role. The battle is also notable for its effects on both sides' morale and the large number of surrendering German forces. This led Erich Ludendorff to describe the first day of the battle as the black day of the German Army. Amiens was one of the first major battles involving armoured warfare.

STORYLINE:
Israel's President Shimon Peres attended the opening of Moscow's new Jewish Museum on Thursday - the biggest in Europe.
The museum documents the history of Jewish people in Russia, using interactive displays, photographs and videos.
The Israeli president, whose parents were from Russia, said he felt overwhelmed by memories when he saw the exhibition.
Peres praised Russia for its role fighting against Nazi Germany in World War II and said the nation still had influence.
He urged Russia and the United States to unite their efforts to put an end to the terror and threats, to free mankind from bloodshed and despair.
Peres also said that there were many happy moments in what he called the shared history of Russians and Jews, despite the pogroms of the Tsarist era.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov read a statement from President Vladimir Putin, saying that he hoped the museum, officially called the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Centre, would serve to promote values and ideals, inter-ethnic talks that are especially necessary.
Another guest at the opening was Berel Lazar, the Chief Rabbi of Russia, who said that there was no question that the museum had been established through Putin's support.
But he said that the Jewish community in Russia had already had tons and tons of friends in this country.
Putin described the museum's opening as a contribution to combating xenophobia.

Volgograd Travel Guide - Russia Magical Experience
Volgograd Travel Guide - Russia Magical Experience
Volgograd used to be called Stalingrad. It lies along the west bank of the Volga River in Southern Russia. It was the scene of one of the most important and bloodiest battles of the Second World War. The Battle of Stalingrad in World War II was one of the largest and bloodiest battles in the history of warfare. Known locally as the Hero City, it is home to The Motherland Calls, an 85 meter statue dedicated to the heroes of the battle. The city also has many tourist attractions, such as museums, sandy beaches, and a self-propelled floating church.
Volgograd has a humid continental climate with moderate rainfall throughout the year measuring 406mm (15 inches on average). The city has large seasonal variations, due to its very strong continentality. Winters are cold (though above average for Russian standards) and the average February temperature is -6.6°C (20.1°F) while highs usually remain below freezing and lows hover around -10°C (13°F). There is nothing to protect the city from the freezing winds originating in the interior of Siberia and temperatures may fall down to -20°C (-4°F). Snow is a common sight during these months, but westerly winds are able to raise temperatures above freezing allowing rain to fall on average 6 days in January. The lowest recorded temperature is -33°C (-27°F). Summers on the other hand range from pleasantly warm to hot on some days. The average July temperature is 23.7°C (74.7°F).
Volgograd's public transport system includes a light rail service known as the Volgograd Metrotram. Volgograd is a major railway junction served by the Privolzhskaya Railway. Rail links from the Volgograd railway station include Moscow; Saratov; Astrakhan; the Donbas region of Ukraine; the Caucasus and Siberia. Local public transport is provided by buses, trolleybuses and trams. The Volga River still is a very important communication channel. The Volgograd International Airport provides air links to major Russian cities as well as Antalya, Yerevan and Aktau.
A memorial complex commemorating the battle of Stalingrad, dominated by an immense allegorical sculpture The Motherland Calls, was erected on the Mamayev Kurgan, the hill that saw some of the most intense fighting during the battle. At 85 metres it is almost twice the height of the Statue of Liberty in New York.
The Panorama Museum sited on the Volga contains artifacts from World War II. These include a panoramic painting of the battlefield from the location of the monument on Mamayev Kurgan. A rifle of the famous sniper Vasily Zaytsev is also on display. The Musical Instrument Museum is a branch of the Volgograd regional Museum of local lore.
