3 day tour from San Pedro de Atacama to Salar de Uyuni
An amazing 3 day trip from San Pedro de Atacama to Uyuni with a great driver and a great tour guide from White & Green International Travel.
Due to the unusually rainy weather around San Pedro de Atacama we had to wait 2-3 hours for the permission to cross the border, but once we got in the jeeps and started our trip in Bolivia, we enjoyed every moment. I have never experienced such a vast range of landscapes in short distances. Once it felt like being in Lord of the Rings, other times in Star Wars or in Once Upon a Time in the West haha.
We visited natural beauties, enjoyed breathtaking views, soaked in hot springs, and had wonderful traditional dishes in great accommodations with hot showers and enough blankets to warm ourselves up at night. Respect to our driver, Vladimir and our tour guide, Sebastian, they did a great job. Whenever we needed some extra time at a spot, they always waited patiently for us.
Make enough space on the memory card of your camera/phone, dress in layers and get ready for one of the best trips of your life, guys!

AMAZING ATACAMA DESERT ROAD TRIP | Flamingos | Salt Flats | Alpine Lakes
We rented a car in San Pedro de Atacama and drove through the Atacama Desert. Laguna Chaxa was our first stop which is a huge salt flat region surrounded by the Andes Mountains and filled with flamingos! Next were two gorgeous blue lakes - Laguna Miscanti and Laguna Miniques where we had a picnic with a view!

Bolivia Chile - Altiplano to Atacama Explorer
Starting in the country’s largest city, Santa Cruz, the trip first takes us on a journey from the tropical lowlands, via out of the way and seldom visited locations, towards the altiplano. Here we’ll visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Samaipata, the archaeological ruins of El Fuerte and the interesting village of La Higuera, where Che Guevara met his untimely end.
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1991, Sucre is undoubtedly Bolivia’s most beautiful town, and is regarded as the symbolic heart of the country.
As the location of the first declaration of independence in the Americas from Spain in 1809, Sucre holds a special place in Bolivia’s, if not the entire continents, national psyche. Today it is a pretty colonial town, with elegant administrative buildings, spectacular churches and monasteries, good museums, and is famous for its silver and chocolate shops. There is also a very interesting dinosaur park on the outskirts of town, where 65 million year old dinosaur footprints can be seen. From here we travel on, along a beautiful mountain road, to Potosi.
Out of the giant mountain, or the Rich Hill as its known, that stands above Potosi the Spanish managed to extract enough silver to build an empire. The mine is still in use, extracting zinc, copper and what silver is left and forms one of the more bizarre experiences travellers can take. But if burrowing underground is not to your liking the town, which was at one time reputed to be the richest city on earth, with a population twice that of Paris, is still well worth a visit. It has an excellent museum and some wonderful colonial architecture.
This has got to be one of the highlights of any trip to Bolivia, heading out across the Uyuni Salt flats, the largest salt flats anywhere on earth.
Formed 25,000 years ago when a seismic shift in the continental plates drained a vast inland saltwater lake, leaving behind a perfect white crystal plane of salt. At 12,000sqkms, it stretches as far as the eye can see broken only by a few dark cactus covers islands.
But it's not just the lake itself that is so interesting; it’s also about the people that live, and have lived, around it.
Hiking up a ridge below Tunupa volcano to get a better view, you’ll be led into a cave where you’ll find the mummified bodies of two men, two women and two infants. They are thought to be members of the Uruquillas tribe that legend says made their way overland from Mongolia 2,500 years ago. Our guide told us they were a noble family, probably farmers, that lived and died here 700 years ago.
Today people still eek an existence out of the land around them. Some farm llamas and quinoa on the lower slopes of the volcanoes. Others make a living from the salt itself, either by cutting it into blocks for the building trade, or for animal salt licks, or by drying it out, crushing it up, bagging it and selling it as table salt.
Travelling on to Chile, over the high altiplano you are going to be in for a real treat. On this route you’ll pass by, and visit, some of the most magnificent natural wonders anywhere on the continent. Including geyser fields, dazzling lakes – packed with flamingos – and important geological features…
What you can see behind me is the Colorado Fault. This is where the South America plate is crashing into the Nazca plate, the South American one going above, the Nazca one going below, and it causes this huge gash in the earth.
And finally you are going to end up here, in the amazing Atacama Desert.
Sitting in the rain shadow of both the Andes and the Chilean Coastal Range, the Atacama Desert is renowned as being the driest place on earth. It is also the region that has been driest for longest, with some suggesting a continuous arid area here dating back at least three million years. Some of the soil has no life at all, a situation NASA has exploited to test instruments for Mars missions. And, due to its otherworldly landscapes, it has been used as a location on numerous space films including Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets.
Forming the northern chain of Chile’s ‘Ring of Fire’ the region is framed by a spectacular girdle of volcanoes and plethora of fascinating geographical phenomenon.
During your time here you’ll go for a good hike though the Salt canyon, visit the Valley of the Moon, the high altitude geyser fields, where you might like to take a swim in a thermal pool, and the Salt Range – perfect place for sunset shots. And if the skies are clear you’ll also do a star gazing trip – the Atacama is known as the best place in the world from which to see space.
So the trip ends here in San Pedro de Atacama. From here we drive to Calama, from where we fly to Santiago and home or on for an extension. It’s been an amazing journey.

Altiplanic Lagoons tour in the Atacama Desert
The Atacama desert region never stops surprising you:
One hour you can be high up in the freezing mountains, later in the driest desert in the world, or contemplating otherworldly landscapes like this, around the Altiplanic Lagoons.
Atacama Desert, Chile: Colorful and Dazzling Rainbow Valley
Rainbow Valley, real name Matancilla, is another one of those excursions that not everyone has time or inclination to visit. I also thought, More rocks... but Rainbow Valley lives up to its name. Sedimentary, igneous, rocks with silica, rocks with tourmalines embedded (unfortunately, not gem quality tourmalines), rocks in every shade of the Rainbow.
Only four of the 70 tour operators in San Pedro schedule this trip which shows its popularity in the pecking order. Try to schedule more than the usual three days spent by tourists in the Atacama Desert to see it all and to see it all more leisurely; or you will be on the go from early in the morning until late in the evening.
Road Tripping Through Atacama Desert
Atacama Desert, located in Chile, is the driest non-polar desert in the world. Arguably the best views on my trip in South America!

Valparaiso Chile - Free City Tour
City tour with Tours4Tips through Valparaiso Conception. Best way to get around all the hills is to use the Ascensors (Funiculars). There is only one real elevator which we also used.
This 3 hour walking tour from port to high hills will help you find your feet and lose your mind as you discover the Heritage Site of Valparaiso.
In Valparaiso it is easy to get lost in the maze of alleyways and street art. We lead you around not only enhancing your sense of direction but filling you with our knowledge and wisdom of locally named “Valpo”. An adventure that takes you through your senses of taste, smell, vision and laughter (ok that last one might not be a sense, but if it was it’s going to be tickled).
Today you will ride a 100 year old funicular, learn about Chileans favorite food and find out which Valpo street dog is called David Bowie. Find your local freelance Wally guide at Plaza Sotomayor at 3pm everyday rain or shine! If that wasn’t exciting enough for you to read, then get this, it is a pay-what-you-feel tour. The pressure is released, get your kicks on and enjoy discovering Chiles pride and joy!
Why take THIS tour, Why THIS us? Taking a wander with your freelance Wally guide is like hanging out with your older brothers cool friend, they know all the cool places in town! Find out where to eat, drink and party along with the little quirks of Valpo only a local would know. All this along with the town’s cultural, political, architectural and religious background.
It’s impossible to discover Valpo by bus or vehicle, walking is the only way to see the hidden gems. We choose our freelance guides on the basis of how much they love Valparaiso. If they convince us of this as well as making us laugh and feeling comfortable we know they can make you as passionate as Valpo as we are. If you aren’t convinced yet you can check us out on TripAdvisor, we have maaaad references! And if you still ain’t satisfied by the end, you don’t have to pay a single peso!
Who should NOT take this tour? If you hate meeting new people or seeing controversial if not a little offensive art then you are in the wrong place completely. Now that you are in a bit of a smaller town we like to be more interactive and friendly. In our tours people get to know each other and learn each other’s stories. If you are a more traditional type that likes a bright white clean house then you may not like Valpo. All the houses here look like they have been sprinkled on by a concoction of colour and art.

Futaleufú River in Chile | 4K | Drone | Epic Landscape | Timelapse | Beautiful Lakes | Climbing
Futaleufú is a Chilean town and commune located in Northern Patagonia, specifically in Palena Province, Los Lagos Region. Futaleufu is a frontier town with a small but growing tourism industry based on adventure tourism—most specifically whitewater rafting—but also fishing, mountain biking, trekking, and canyoning. Located 7 miles from the Argentinian border, Futaleufu is most easily accessed from airports in Esquel and Bariloche, Argentina. The town is named after the crystal blue Futaleufú River, widely considered to be one of the best whitewater rafting rivers in the world. The name Futaleufu derives from a Mapudungun word meaning Big River.
The town has a population of about 2,000. The main income for the community is fly fishing and outdoor sports, particularly white water rafting, together with forestry and cattle farming. A gravel road links the town to Trevelin in Argentina and to the Carretera Austral. It is served by Futaleufú Airfield.
Following the eruption of Chaitén Volcano and the subsequent destruction of Chaitén, Futaleufú has been the administrative capital of Palena Province since March 2009.
The Futaleufú River is commonly rated by specialized media as one of the best rivers in the world for kayaking and rafting. The river flows in from Argentina, through the town, and empties into the fjord-shaped Yelcho Lake. Day trips and multi-day trips are available on the Futa while several of its tributaries, such as the Espolón River and the Azul (Blue) River, can be rafted, canoed, or navigated by boat.
Two lakes, Lake Lonconao and Lake Espolón, offer opportunities for paddling and fly fishing close to the town of Futaleufú. Fly fishing is also possible on the Futaleufú River, the Yelcho River (the largest river in the Futaleufú Valley) and Espolon River, which is the largest tributary of the Futaleufú and contains brown trout and rainbow trout, as well as salmon in April and May.
Other nearby attractions include the Futaleufú National Reserve, known for its population of Huemul (South Andean deer), and Pumalín Park, Chile's largest private nature reserve. Pumalín is a public-access park, with an extensive infrastructure of trails, campgrounds, and visitor centres.
Canyoning and rappelling is also possible in the Futaleufú valley, with its numerous ravines and waterfalls, as well as horse riding and mountain biking.
Cycling high on the Atacama desert
My journey from the North Pole to the South pole reaches its final stage. Over the 'Salar de Uyuni' and the 'Atacama desert', I find my way into Argentina. For days and days, I encounter nothing else than trucks hauling new cars from Chile, and herds of llamas and donkeys. I climb back to almost 5,000 meters altitude and fight against altitude sickness. Sand stroms, golden mountains and white lagunas make this journey epic.

Atacama Desert, Chile: The 2,000 Year Old Settlement of Tulor
Tulor is located 10 minutes outside of San Pedro de Atacama. Driving through Cuyo (a community of nine families), Tulor in Los Flamencos National Park is the site of the earliest known settlement in the area. It is properly known as the Aldea de Tulor and carbon dating fixes the origin between 380BC-200AD.
This village was once an important traffic and interchange port for llama caravans until an earthquake shifted the San Pedro River and its people moved. The settlement consisted of a series o circular, interconnecting structures which had different uses and functions according to archaeologists.
Stand, look at the unending vista of sand and salt and try to imagine a once green area that supported agriculture; I found it impossible.
